It is funny cause one thing Lucas doesn't recognize is the EU books when it relates to the movies, as they are not considered canon, like in ROTJ book, Uncle Owen is ObiWans brother, which made more sense.

But then the first book after the Prequels is about? Darth Vader between Episode III & IV! And how do find out more about the Clone Wars? Watch the cartoons in 2004 & 2005! How do we get to know more about the prequels, read Labyrinth of Evil, because it gives more insight on alot of events that lead up to ROTS. But then again, don't, because they are not canon.

I never cared to read the OT books in the 70's/80's, cause they weren't these burning questions after watching each movie back then, it was all there, and if it wasn't there, it still made sense. Now you have to read some of the PT books to get more insight. But then again, they are not canon.

Now, let's not get in yet another canon argument. I'm going to end this once and for all. The EU is canon. It's as canon as the films. But Lucas? He sees it as an extension of his story, and thus, not part of his story. So... he regards it as part of the over all Star Wars canon, but not necessarily important to the story he has attempted to tell. That is why he always gives those hints to the EU, or adds things to his films from the EU, yet he doesn't indulge in it in his films.

I was watching a show tonight called "The 20 Best Villains," and, of course, Darth Vader was #1. Well, when they were interviewing people about it, Mark Hamill said "You don't need a backstory for Darth Vader. That backstory is understood from the original films."

I was thinking, "Whoa, he wouldn't dare say that on a Lucas camera™."
wasnt that a new special? nice slam on the prequels, and i totally agree

Yes, I believe it was a new special.

Oh yeah well how's this for nerdy. The guy that plays the Rebel base general from ESB (one of his lines was "You're a good fighter Solo. I'd hate to loose you." Anyway, he plays a role in a Fawlty Towers episode (1970's BBC comedy) and darn it if I didn't shout out, "Hey! The general from Star Wars is Vacationing in England!"

And for those of you playing along at home, the name of the episode was "Wardof Salad" where he plays a very rude American vacationing in England.

Impressive... most impressive.

(Dammit, every time I think of that now, I think of Anakin in Chapter 21 of the Clone Wars series saying it, rather than in ESB.)

And the other full-fledged jedi got killed very quickly and easly by the same clone troopers. That made lots of sense.

Come on, we're using Star Wars logic here. That young Jedi can take out clones, just as a group of Ewoks can take out a legion of Palpatine's best troops.

Now I'm no doctor, but I belive you SHOULD sedate and cover a person under that condition, not leave him screaming in pain under the rain, right?

Strange as it is, the film crew must have known what they were doing when shooting/animating that scene. I would say that Palpatine and co. simply didn't care about Vader's well-being. After all, Palpatine is only interested in Vader (and anyone for that matter) only for his use to him, not for Vader's own well being.

On a PT note, there is only one place that gives me goose bumps (sad that in the course of 6.5 hours of movie, that is the only place).

Anyway it is in ROTS where Yoda is fighting the Emperor. They are dueling on his platform and Yoda steps on the button that makes the platform rise into the senate chamber. You see it rising up from the floor with the whole empty senate chamber growing around them and you see fierce lightsaber fighting on this tiny little platform dwarfed by this huge symbol of democracy.

The symbolism is amazing in that scene. Very good work with the camera angles and music. To see the last battle for fighting for Republic justice. I couldn't have picked a more appropriate place for that battle. It is the only scene in the entire PT that I like.

And when Yoda overpowered Palpatine with the force lightning, and that "Oh, shit!" look on his face when he knew he was overpowered.

Oh, so that's the point of that scene-- to give Luca$' son his screen time.

To be fair, I didn't know it was his son when I saw the movie. I only found out like a week ago. I though that the scene was pretty bad ass. I like that kid. Even if it wasn't his son, that scene should still be in the movie IMO. It shows that the Jedi weren't just bending over and taking it in the ass when it came to the extermination. He kills off 2 troopers before he is shot dead.

Lucas child or not, I still think that scene is cool. I was impressed with that character.

Modified from its original version

Yeah, ric, I read that little tidbit about a month ago, but it does remind me of my first Star Wars viewing experience, which made me more than a little confused. I was nine when I got the Faces set, and I didn't know the difference between widescreen and fullscreen, what have you. So I popped the tape in, and I watched that cool advertisement that I watch every time I watch the movies ending with telling us that it's the original version... one last time. And then, after the interview, it goes to the, "The following film has been modified from its original version..." and I was really quite confused by that.

LOL!

Binary Sunset aside, one of the scenes that gives me huge goose bumps is the part where Luke attacks Vader in ROTJ and the music swells to dramatic portions. You see Luke's saber strike harder and faster and the music is Luke's theme but all dark and somber and you see son against father in a final emotional battle ... wow. I've got chills on my arms just thinking about it.

And it's not in the movie, but a longer extended version of the Funeral Pyer music brings me to tears every single time I hear it.

You're damn right!

Desperate for entertainment I popped in my brothers N64 game "Rogue Squadron" and well, it sucks. I'm not really that into games, but it's totally boring. Give me SNES Star Wars, ESB, and ROTJ. Which, my brother also owns thankfully.

I'm not that into the games, either. Only a few were great, like SOTE, KOTOR, the Dark Forces series.

Has he ever seen any of the Star Wars films? If not, show him all six in order. It would be interesting to see what his reaction is.

EU books: A funny Lucas contradiction

I’m sure that some of you are familiar with some of the EU books that give Coruscant as being partly covered by water. Well, in the early 90’s, when people like Michael P. Kube-McDowell were allowed to write novels involving Coruscant, Mc-Dowell argued with Lucas, saying that a planet cannot possibly be completely covered by a city, as water is essential for survival, and that, due to the demands of the huge population of a planet completely covered by buildings, supplies could not be shipped from off-world at the rate that would be needed. Lucas, however, seemingly ingnored this idea in the PT and in the ROTJ SE, saying his vision was that it was completely a city-planet, regardless.

However, in ROTS, he had a scene on Coruscant of it raining…

So, he therefore contradicted his own “vision,” and elevated the ideas of those EU authors (who argued with him of the on the issue of water on Coruscant) into G-canon.

Why Boba Fett is now bunk
Time
One thing that would have worked well, IMO is this: Since Jango went out like a bitch at the hands of Mace, it would have been the ultimate redemption for Boba to be the one who killed Mace. Maybe he could have helped Anakin or something. Talk about redemtion for his father! Lucas would have liked that, as it reasonates with his main story.

And now, since Lucas chose not to do that, he could generate a similar effect by inserting that scene he was talking about of Boba in the ROTJ DVD commentary of Boba crawling out of the sarlaac pit in ROTJ. That way, it would look like he too went out like a bitch, but then climbs out all badass and stuff.
