What you're reading now: EU style

I actually detest EU a great deal, and yet I have ventured into the realm of sin.

I picked up the book "Splinter of the minds eye" at my library yesterday and I'm going to read it this weekend.

The only reason I'm reading it is because I'm curious what it will say considering that it was writen in 1978 and takes a totally different turn than what happens during ESB. I just don't know how kinky things get between Luke and Leia on whatever planet that they are on.

I'm hoping that it turns out to be good read, even though the story is bunk now and it fell through the EU cracks.

OK, BTW, a public service announcement to everyone first: This thread is NOT for EU bashing. It is only for discussing what you may be reading in the EU and how you feel about that particular book.

OK... now... back to our regularly scheduled programming.

The thing is, the story, as far as Lucasfilm is concerned, is still in continuity. And from what I can remember, Splinter of the Mind's Eye doesn't really contradict anything that occurs later on. Yeah, there was some sexual tension between Luke and Leia, but hey, it keeps in continuity with the films that way, doesn't it?

One interesting bit of trivia about the book was that it was actually intended to be made into a low-budget sequel to ANH if it bombed at the box office as Lucas originally thought. And, as you'll see, Han isn't involved in the story, since at the time, Harrison Ford had not signed on for a sequel to ANH.

I'm also amazed about the quality. Beats the crap out of all the screenshots I have seen so far. How were you able to pull such a transfer from an old worn 1978-video?

Supposedly, that tranfer is from a 1st generation broadcast tape.
someone post screenshots please!! ive always wanted to see this cleaned up

From the KCCI DVD? There's one in Rikter's first post.

He contributed nothing worthwhile to the ep III commentary, he just said at random intervals "And this right here is classic George, the way he combines all the visual elements to tell the story is pure genius." Lucas himself had a lot of interersting things to say.

ROTFLMAO!!!!!

Does George Lucas have any redeeming qualities?

And he made a very cool adjustment (for a change) to James Earl Jones' voice in the 2004 ANH to match the other two OT chapters.

I concur. It doesn't have that echo sound now. It has that "real" Vader sound to it.

Well, my brother is eight, (just turned) and he started watching them around 3. Now whats intresting, is, for a period of time, all that existed to us was our 10 year old copy of the faces FS tapes...we'd watch that EVERY SINGLE night! I knew there was the new star wars movies (I saw TPM in the theater, when I was roughly my brothers age) but I never really was intrested. Then I got the Musical Journey DVD! I was so hyped up, seeing the star wars movies I knew, but seeing them "digitaly Remasteres" and seeing that new end sequence with the new inserts! I was crazy! I then started on a DVD rampage. I bought Ep.I, Ep.II, Clone Wars.......I was still a novice to SW.
My brother, saw Episode III in theaters, and his favorite movies are ROTJ and ROTS, with ROTJ being his #1.
Then June (2005) came around, and I bought the 2004 Editions. I was happy, I watched them, and I really liked the way everything looked fresh and new...infact, I was sick (with a fever) when I went to target-lol-so I bought my set, came home, barfed in the toilet, put in ANH, layed in bed, and put on some head phones and the directors commentary. I watched all 3 fims that afternoon.....well, October comes around, and Im into OT.com....
My brother got really into it, hell he still is into it, and me and him sat and watched the entire movie Building Empire. And he really liked the alternate angles and takes, and diffrent dialouge sounds, etc. He hated that commentary-lol
My dad says anyday is a good day for a good steak.

I say, any age is a good age for Star Wars-lol

Aha! Finally, someone who can appreciate the films as they are!
