Yeah, I love how The New Essential Chronology explained that the Droids series was in continuity because R2 and 3PO were "lost" for a while from the Tantive IV, and wound up with a bunch of other masters before being returned to the Tantive IV, sometime prior to ANH. Yeah, those reference books try to explain away everything, including those strange Marvel comics from the 80's.

Not yet. I'm trying to read the novel in chronological order and haven't read any NJO novels for now.

Have you read his Clone Wars-era novel Shatterpoint then?

Yeah, it's based on two things in continuity:

In the ANH novelization, when Obi-Wan makes an analogy involving ducks in water, Luke asks Obi-Wan: "What's a duck?"

And in TPM, when R2 and the droids are attempting to fix the shields when they are leaving Naboo, Captain Panaka says "If they don't get those shields up, we'll be sitting ducks."

I know. He should have written them to be more like the EU authors/artists have. What I find amusing is that (despite the fact that I greatly enjoy the Star Wars films) the majority of the time, IMHO, the EU authors write star wars better than Lucas. Their stories are much more planned ahead of time and are reviewed and looked at by a lot of people before they are even made into a book/comic/game/TV show.
