To be completely honest, the OOT looks to me very outdated, from the video quality, effects, etc, that I've seen from the OO version of ANH. Lucas's changes updated them to fit with the PT, which, IMHO, was the best move he could've made. Sorry, but that's my opinion, and you'll have to live with it, blasphemy it may seem. Now if only Lucas could have achieved the effects that Blade Runner did, well, then the OOT wouldn't have looked so outdated.

Blade Runner OV vs. DC

I know many on here have a strong belief in preserving the theatrical versions of films, but, looking at the content of the theatrical version of this, I can't see why that, even the most strong of purists, would want to preserve it. The changes Ridley Scott made for the DC added to the quality of the film, if anything (in removing the voiceover, etc). It added to the abmiguity of the story, which is a good thing.

If the Prequels had been made first would they have succeeded?

The more I think about it, the more I come to the conclusion that he made it up as he went along. Kinda like the Walchowski brothers and the matrix mess. Adam, you need to really think about what you are saying. I've found that most of your statements hang on the idea that Lucas knew what he was doing, and that anything he does and says it gospel when it comes to how things wnet down. The man is human and he is prone to lying just as much as you are. Trust me, He's lied to the world, even to his friends about this story for years. He never had what you would call a real backstory when he made the original star wars. He didn't write any of that until after it did really well in the box office. Once he saw that, he thought "well I can say there is moer to the story and make more movies". Then he wrote the backstory based on the previous scripts that he tried to hammer out before 1977. Once the backstory was laid, then he wrote the story outlines for ESB and Jedi.

Um, all writers have to write a backstory in order to figure out where their characters will end up. Lying or not, he had to have written a backstory in oirder to organize things so well.

Of course. But I welcome change. That's the difference. When you were a kid, it was not commonplace to see changes made to films. But now, it is commonplace. If he wants to change these movies, great. He's already made a few changes for the TPM and AOTC DVD's. And because of that, I didn't go complaining that it wasn't the theatrical versions. In 99', I first saw the 97' SE's. And he changed several things for the 2004 DVD's. Did I care? No. I welcomed these new changes. For the prequels, there are several things I would like to see done in fact. Several scenes need to reinserted, for instance.

Somehow I doubt he would spend ten years of his life and hundreds of millions of he didn't know what the hell he was doing storywise.

People dont doubt he spent millions of dollars just to throw down the drain, and that he wasted ten years of his life for nothing, but storywise why do people say there are plotholes continuty errors and inconsisties, do Star Wars fans/people say it for a laugh and a joke at Georges expense or because they see flaws in the story, you have even brought up the Leia remembering Padme issue yourself......

Yes, but I just don't think he would just "forget" about essential plot elements that easily. I mean, with the thousands of people working with him, even if he did forget, someone would remind him. Even as early as January, when they still could have fixed that seemingly-plot element, McCallum explained that there was no continuity issue, given the greater coontext of the saga. Now, I would assume that is based on words directly from Lucas himself.
