WAR! Lucasfilm is crumbling under attacks from disgrungled fan boys discontented with the direction the franchise has taken. There are heroes one one side. It ain't Lucasfilm.
In a stunning move, the feindish fan boy leader MagnoliaFan, has re-edited both Episode I and II making them much better films than what was officially released.
As fanboys flee with their bootlegged copies of these brilliant re-edits, The Dark Lord Darth Lucas has waged an all-out assault by releasing the ORIGINAL TRILOGY full of technical glitches and pointless changes in a last ditch effort to get our cash ....
I am looking at two brand new t-shirts from Mike. Christmas may be a little late for my friends, but I'm relieved to see that this product was not, as Rikter called it, "vapor-wear." Further, Mike, it's glad to see that you're back on the board and contributing. I hope whatever crises arose over the holidays have passed, and I look forward to updates on your project once again. They've been informative and inspirational to me in regards to my own projects.

Heck, I'd say you couldn't even beat it anymore. It's more like a puddle of something formerly known as "horse" being stomped around in gleefully by a few (one) people on the boards.
Sounds like you're describing glue. It would be the substance that holds us together, so your analogy is so appropriate in ways you might not have considered when you wrote that.
If I can figure out how to do the multiple-angle thing, then I may try that. That's probably the safest approach, as it's exactly how they handle the crawl in multiple languages.
Damn, why didn't GL just do a friggin seamless branching of the O-OT and the SE? It's not like Fox couldn't do it. The Alien Quadrilogy has to be the best-produced boxed set (albiet with the worst name) I've seen in terms of features. Alternate cuts on all four films, handled perfectly with seamless branching, and even the SE features on each of them comes with an optional subtitle to indicate a change. Educational AND entertaining. What more could one ask for?
Sorry guys. Was detained on other matters for a couple of days. Actually making good on that "less time on the boards" comment a couple of weeks ago.
MBJ, that audio clip would be nice, yes.
For all interested, I hope to use Neil's 1997 audio on my ANH project. We did some testing with it over the weekend, and it does synch awesomely. I'm going to noodle it a little bit around the tail stepping sequence (I actually prefer 2004 during that one shot), but other than that, I think this will be my primary audio.
I also think I may include BOTH audio tracks, simply because it becomes an educational experience at that point, putting the project into fair use. But 1997 will be the default from the sounds of things.
The audio for "Lapti Nek" came from the Anthology Boxed Set CD from 1993. The video was simply reassembled shots from the SE to match the music. Notice the greatly reduced role of Joh Yowza. I left in his "introduction" as I kinda felt he was more of a character in the audience yelling out "Play 'Free Bird.'" Essentially, Jabba says "Play it again, Sy" and Joh Yowza yells, "No no no, play Free Bird!!!"
I have the anamorphic 2-disc Collectors Edition of Pulp Fiction, but need the non-anamorphic version (now OOP) for a pet project. Please PM me if you have this, as I'm working on a pet project and need some help.
Neil, I'm up for it. Furthermore, I can help to mux the audio back in for a DL version of the disc, replacing out the shoddy 5.1 track that currently exists. PM me with details. I'd also like the opportunity to use this mix on my forthcoming re-edit.
The Digital Bits hasn't responded to any of my findings either. I'm not too pleased with those guys. I empathize.
I'm assuming you've done extensive quality checking on this new mix and it sounds perfectly awesome?
I got it on opening day. I planned not to, but then learning that some changes were improvements over the 1997 SE's (improved CG for Jabba, losing Lukes Wussy scream, improved Rancor matting), coupled with all the good press it was getting, I caved. Of course, I really wanted to punch every reviewer in the jaw for glossing over the technical problems.
Then I found you guys. The rest of my life since has been well documented on this forum.
My current plan is to leave Jabba in, but he will have a optional alternate set of subtitles. I've already written them and they look pretty good. Not so redundant. I'd love to get his eyes the right color, but don't know if I'll go to that extreme. We'll see.
Maybe I'll make two versions. Or try a feature with "seamless" branching. Not to dig up that flame-fest from a couple of weeks ago.
Unrelated issue: I need some help in this thread from any of you who are very familiar with burnable DL discs and/or cards with S-video and digital audio outputs. Post replies to that issue in that thread and not here.
I just posted a topic in this thread (look for date/time close to now) on an important issue regarding to the original BOTF discs I circulated a while back. Not earthshattering news, but important news regarding the compatibility of these discs in some players due to an authoring error.
I discovered a serious issue. My apologies if others of you know this and I'm catching on late in the game. This also affects the BOTF discs I circulated a while back, but I'll try to keep the topic in this thread. Apparently the version of DVD-Lab Pro I used to mux both the first BOTF edit (the one with only two streams) and the DL version of my ROTJ edit had a serious bug. Block size was base 1000 instead of 1024 on the output VOBs, rendering them incompatible with some players (not mine, hence I didn't catch it). This does NOT affect the SL version that is currently being torrented, as I used Pinnacle to do the final authoring on the SL version, thus correcting the block size. Same with the 4-subtitle version of BOTF.
You'll know if the DVD was authored with the wrong block size as each of the VOB files will be 953 MB as opposed to the correct 0.99 GB. If it plays fine, then don't worry about it. But if the disc doesn't play, this is a likely cause.
For those of you using DVD-Lab Pro to create your titles, the patches are available that fix this problem. Fortunately for those of you who have DVDs with the 953-sized VOBS, the data can be reauthored on your computer with any number of reauthoring tools. The latest versions of Pinnacle and Nero will do this. I'll spare the details unless there is a demand for that info.
Crow 2 was the only time I've walked out of the theater in the middle of a movie. And sadly enough, I was so pumped up about it when it came out that I talked about 10 friends into going with me to see it.
Aside from the momentary pause, the cheapa$$ GoVideo combo unit downstairs handles the DLs pretty well. I'll probably just take my DVD in and test it on a few models. Hmmm ... if they see Shaw in ROTJ I wonder if they sales guys will take note.
I'd like to figure out how to get my computer to do this though, as I'd like to be able to watch things like XVids on TV.
I discovered today that, contrary to my original expectations, my primary DVD player (Apex 5131) does NOT play DL discs perfectly. The player will freeze up at a layer change or otherwise skip over the chapter where the layer change resides. The menus also do not display unless they are VMG menus. I have a newer DVD player elsewhere in the house where this is not a problem, but there is still a slight pause at the layer change. When I play back burned DL disc in my computer, there is no problem with lag, freezing or menus.
I've been to videohelp.com looking for answers, and while many have danced around these issues, none have addressed them directly.
1) The chapter skip seems to be a problem with older model players. Do any of you know of a workaround?
2) The freezing seems to be a buffering issue. Do any of you have a player you would recommend that doesn't pause at the layer break on BURNED DL discs?
3) Because I have the very fortunate placement of my computer and TV separated only by a wall (with pre-wired jacks in that wall), I can actually run S-Video and Digital Audio cables from my computer to my TV/Amp. Is there a recommended PCI card that will send out S-Video and digital audio data like a DVD Player?
Interestingly, the new music really doesn't start until you get back to Endor. Prior to that (i.e. during the planet celebrations) it is really just a rhythm intro that loops. It might be fun for somebody to try doing a seamless blend from the rhythm track into Yub Nub. There are actually two versions of Yub Nub on the Anthology Boxed Set. No idea off the top of my head if the alternate version would be more suitable to the greater length, but it too could be investigated. Shots of the Endor celebration could be truncated or removed individually as well. But since I prefered the new music I just left it as is. Another adventurous soul can build upon what I've done.
I like what he did as well, but overall I still don't like the sequence. This isn't a slam against ADM's work - I just don't care for the new CG/scenes.
It's still a very impressive effort.
Thanks, MBJ. I can take the criticism along with the compliment when it's presented so amiably. If only everybody on the board spoke to everybody else this way. Anyway, I felt pretty good with this for a first time editing job. Actually, second. Blade Runner was first, but that hardly counts.
I've stopped seeding for a couple of hours but hope to get it back up when I hit the hay. Don't know why so many seeders disappeared though. WTF???
You betcha. Actually, three of the four gripes in the original post do get addressed, or I'd have kept my yap shut. Insofar as my work is concerned, Yub Nub will remain a delight of the true OT projects.
