So there is quite a lot to compare and study.

Of course, all this needs some time to be appreciated, however if you want to compare, may I suggest you just take a couple of tracks here and there, it should be enough.

Besides, mostly on the ROTJ and the ESB albums nothing really sounds the same way, when in the remixed versions I made from them, and even if remains some differences, the whole tracks put together sound now quite close.

The last restoration of the ESB score has been quite surprising about that, cause even when not trying to have the same sound everywhere, by sweeping a bunch of undesirable frequencies a lot of tracks came closer again to each others... Closer, but not "uniform", that's what is great in those scores.

I do not understand that there is so much buzz for the fanedit of Adywan's Empire while the remastered Score - ABC's beautiful achievement - doesn't receive the attention and admiration it deserves, definitely.

Hoho! Thanks... This quote might be my new signature! Lol

First, and for your consideration:

The mods of this forum are great enough to let me post a way to help you find from here the uploaded material quite  easily, as it is now the case for my previous restoration project in the "OT Soundtracks Salvage" thread.

I know you are a lot of people to enjoy this last one and I'm glad you do, mostly when I think a lot of you paid twice for quite a badly managed SW soundtracks set. It is just fair you found it. The original links for the OT S. Salvage being still alive since they have been posted about 9 months ago proves that it goes on spreading. Nice ! Then it is just quite a bit disappointing to observe that more than 90% of people with whom I shared this work by PM at the time, did never take the time to leave the least feedback, or just say "hi" on the thread to bump it and to help this set be obvious to find, simply to let people who are still crying about their official muffled ROTJ versions know that there is a nice "restored" one here.

Then if you enjoy the present work, just let us know ! Thanks.

Kind regards, and may the Force be with you all.

Great to hear, where are the links LOL

You shouldn't laugh so loud Dark Jedi, there will be no links for you, but a special one !... A special dedicated CD with only the "Imperial March" and "Yoda's Theme" turning on for 70min.

Because dark_jedi also said:

From what I have listened to so far it sounds great, but my favorite songs of ESB must be on CD 2,I love The Imperial March and Yoda's Theme,I like the Imperial March so much I just made a ring tone of it for my Little Boy's and my Cell phone LOL.

 LOL !!!

...

Well...hem , more seriously I've got to fix one or two details left, as to choose and finish the best covers I prepared for this set.

BTW, I think I'm gonna pull out the bonus film version edits of "Snowspeeders" and "Departure Of Boba Fett" from it, finally. Sometime less is more !

I wore the grooves out of my LPs back in the day and loved it. But I am hearing things in these tracks (even on my computer) that I have never heard before.

I don't think I have ever heard this music sound this good. What an incredible job. Thank you.

P.S. I like it so much that I even registered to post this comment!

Wow ! Thanks a lot for this ! Well done, and be sure I appreciate very much to read such a feedback. :) ...

UPDATED CD1 & CD2 mixing & restoration details (Post 2)

The bonus tracks order was a headache but I think I made my mind for that... For the moment.

...

Sorry for those who already get CD1: there have been some changes, minor would have I say, but for such an edit nothing can be minor for me, nor for you I think:

Next to the balance corrections noticed two posts ago there have been some light re-EQ for these two tracks, as also for "Battle in the Snow" (now Perfect !), "Crash Landing on Dagobah", and for "The Asteroid Field" (this last one will be unoticeable I'm afraid).

Oh, and was about to forget: "The Rebels Escape" has been completed with a 2sec segment from the LP !

You seem to know your Empire score, I just like to point out that "The Rebels Escape" has a minor edit in the end on the Anthology if you have not noticed it. (I'm sure you have)

I think I noticed that one (at the place of a percussion).

Woop !!! I didn't notice at all there was a part missing on the Anthology, my friend ! The force is with me, but I am not a Jedi yet.

But I'm not sure anymore we talk about the same thing... Anyway, it is now complete ! :)

About "Cease and Desist":

Funny to notice how far Lucasfilm and Star Wars are an Empire !... And sad to see how short is their gratitude back to the fans for their attention.

In the end I'm thinking they would deserve we take back such attention. Sad but true.

___

... BTW I was wondering: if we use the Force, do we have to pay something back to Lucasfilm ? Is it trademarked ?

CD1 UPGRADE,

Sorry, I don't like to do this but as I planned to upgrade with EAC, it will make two of a stroke... There have been some corrections on CD1, not so much but I want it perfect as possible. I noticed some stereo channels on the Anthology (a very few on the SE too) were badly balanced. I thought it was normal at first, but after some tries it makes obvious that it is not. Perhaps they wanted to give a false relief effect that way, but it's not working ! :)

Then...

Balance Corrections:

- Drawing the Battle Lines (Both on SE and Anthology - mutually inverted balance)

- Attack Position

Also, it is possible I'll try two more LP layers on wich I previously failed: "Luke's First Crash", and "The Rebels Escape" (this one would really need it *imo*).

@ Eyeshortfirst: always a kind word to make me feel happy to share those ;) Thanks !

It was not a dig or attack on your work in any shape or form

I know. Just I wished you give it some credits "next" to the Anthology, and note that you DO HAVE a ROTJ version with the bad filters more or less undone, depending of the tracks, as well as a powerful dynamic back. :)

They put out the original recordings for empire but Risner botched it so badly i wonder if it was a deliberate creative decision on Lucas part.

That's why I don't blame this guy. Working with the SE in details, it looks in the same time extremely professional, and totally fucked up. It can' t be made without a good reason.

...

I can see you know the whole (sad) story. Thanks to have taken time to share your knowledge of it !

Its placement on the SE is correct

Well, then...

Good to see you have began work on CD2:)

Hehe ! I just wanted to prepare the work as to make sure I could handle the little "miracles" I targeted to manage. Finally I took advantage of that my hears are still hot for this score and... It is almost finished. ;)

... And I have the pleasure to let you know that from "Carbon freeze" to the "Finale", it's an increasing masterpiece. :)

(Let see if it makes Skyjedi2005 forget the Anthology... ;p)

About CD2,

I rode somewhere the added bit on the SE at the end of "Carbon Freeze" was supposed to be at this place, being a bit composed for when Han being carbonizedn then removed.

I have to disagree. Being now impregnated with musical ambiance and its flow, as well as what they bring to the movie, I'm now sure this bit is an insert for the moment after when Vader falls and disappears from the carbon freeze platform, when luke is inspecting under the facility. So, this track will be placed after "Departure of Boba Fett", just before the duel, where it may give a good transision.

Any objection or information about it ?

To me the best the best star wars music release i will ever see is the 1993 anthology

skyjedi2005,

Oh, you mean "official" release...

Because notably about RotJ, you seem to totally ignore an unofficial release called "the OT Soundtracks Salvage" (I know you don't), set that shows clearly it's not a bad recording that much on the entire score. Just would I liked it could make you forget the other ones, but apparently... You don't want. ;)

Frankly I don't care about another version of RotJ than this successful "restored" one I'm proud of.

Note that even if I plan to restore ANH again, I would consider that the result of the work I already have made on the OTS Salvage goes beyond the source releases I used.

There's no ego trip here, and next bud who will handle such a work will make better, as it must be.

In the wait, I propose to make better than what I've done before, enriched with better sources (the RSO ones remain better than both Antho and SE when corrected), and it begins with ESB.

Then, about the Anthology: just keep the booklet !

;)

OK, someone has graciously sent to me the 1986 CD release I was begging for. ... Thanks again man, if you read me !!!...

And now that I've heard some of it, may I come back to this:

The CD has the same problems as the 70's source tape as remarked upon in the anthology book i think by Lukas Kendal.

... MY ! Have you only ever give a listen to it ?!!! If you want to feel the wood, the brass and the strings, it is THE Star Wars recording in its excellence. There's no so much to do it seems to improve it, however I don't say it'll be an easy task.

I'm not gonna work on it before a while, but I may post a sample just for the pleasure if I have a chance to give it a try.

Thanks for your kind words, msycamore ! :) There was such a work on this one that I finished to be unable to judge myself, LOL. Also the silence over this topic almost made me doubt. I'll need to forget this score before I can appreciate what I've done I think.

Is the Rebel Base insert in "Vision Of Obi-Wan" really it's correct placement?

I guessed this was for the scene you described, because of the temper, and of the short time it runs. That's why I call that "Rebel Base" ;)...

The truth is only that I noticed it fits very well with the begining of "Vision of OBI-Wan", what is convenient because this cue had no begining, or a faded one we can only hear for two seconds. However, it seems it has a little the same style.

Otherwise this insert, because of its sound, would have had only one place: the trash.

... Lukas Kendal says the background noise is typical of recordings of the period and that is what i meant.

Amazing ! Indeed I rode that too and I thought mostly about ESB when I rode these words... And I found this a little shoking, because it looks (to me) more like an excuse to have let this noise unmanaged.

... Just try the new version I've just posted, and I think you'll see what I mean. :)

It said the same thing when I uploaded the sample for "Battle In The Snow" and worked when I tried the day after. Let's hold on for 24 or 48h. If it's still unavailable I'll try again, and perhaps in Ape form.

... I wouldn't be surprised if such a site checks and makes a few retention about Flac files... All is falling down my boys !

Edit: No, I think I'll try in Ape right now, there's a problem with another of my sample in Flac when the wav. ones are ok (weird idea, I know).
