Project Im Working on - Bruce Lee's Game of Death - 35th Anniversary Edition (* unfinished project *)
Time
Sorry guys, I just got a new cable modem ( I was actually running on the old shark fin ) and its a Motorola Surfboard SB4200 and it will only hook up to the computer through usb. The problem is, I use my own personal computer in my room and cannot get the modem to recognize the ethernet card, hook up to the router, or work with the network connections previously installed. Only the usb.

So now I'm typing on the family computer. I'm sorry it took so long to respond, but I finally just got a chance to use it. I wanted to answer a couple questions.

Well... heres my project.

I plan to use footage from the G.O.D. storyline video, The documentary 'A Warrior's Journey', Enter the Dragon, the 1978 Game of Death and The documentary 'Bruce Lee: Legend' to reconstruct the closest possible film to what Bruce had wanted.

What is the "G.O.D. storyline video"? Is that the same thing as "Game of Death 2" or "The True Game of Death"?

FF

this video is available in the video section of www.bruceleedivinewind.com. No it is not the same as 'Game of Death 2' or 'True Game of Death' (which are in fact the same movie just with two different names). This looks like a documentary filmed of the remaining missing scenes that seems to have been filmed almost as a part of the 'A Warrior's Journey' Documentary but never made it.

The Bruce Lee Legend one (not the Man and the Legend one) is the exact DVD I am looking for. There are either one or two very short scenes of Inosanto and somebody training outside of the pagoda with the other guards. I know they aren't really much but the reason I am so adament about it is that I want all of the original footage possible.

I began extracting the scenes you are looking for. Send me a PM with your email address and I will contact you about the scenes.

Ash

I tried sending you a pm but it didn't work. I'll try again on this computer cause I'm actually having more luck with it.

Macs are ace for this sort of thing. I couldn't imagine doing it on a PC, I wouldn't know how.

Well I wasn't originally planning on buying the Mac for this project. I'm in audio engineering and studio recording technologies and I wanted a Mac to build a project studio in my home. But where as my original plan was to buy all of the equipment for recording with the Mac, I'm buying it sooner so I can start this project.

I have the - Out of Print - "Enter the Dragon" CD Soundtrack if you need it for this project.
(The edition with 17 tracks not just 10)

It came with the E.t.D. boxset a few years ago.

I never heard John Barry's Score for the released "Game of Death", but I can't think of it out doing E.t.D. by Lalo Schifrin.

FF

That would be actually pretty cool. I was thinking (for anyone out there who likes this kind of music) of adding a bit of Time by Pink Floyd to the movie, seeing as it was used as a theme in The Big Boss (Bruce Lee's first movie).

Basically, after the scenes that are being ripped from the legend documentary are sent to me i will have all of the footage needed... Im also getting the mac either next week or the week after and then i have to wait to buy final cut pro, so it will be a little while before I begin working on the project (like i always say, as much as id like to do the project, if anybody wanted to do it I could send you the exact scene breakdowns if you wanted it done beforehand - because honestly Im more concerned with this project getting done than doing it myself - although i kinda want to) but I want to thank all of you for your support and ish. To be honest, I wanted to do this a long time ago, but up until a few months ago when I discovered this website and what all of you are doing, I had no idea how... so I thank all of you.

Stay up, stay in touch, peace people

I know they aren't really much but the reason I am so adament about it is that I want all of the original footage possible. I'm sure you've seen the other 35 minutes of original footage of the last 3 floors (they are on the 'A Warriors Documentary' and disc 2 of the region 1 two disc DVD set of Enter the Dragon) but if anybody wants to find the G.O.D. storyline footage that I am working with you can go to Bruce Lee Divine Wind and in the video section it available to download. The video is about 99 mb.

OCP, I began reading the guide and I think I will wait for the powermac before I start working on this (unless someone else wants to join in and start, I have no quarrels against it, I actually just want to ensure this movie gets done) but I was wondering if there was a possible way I could go over some of the information on it in PM. My screen name is holyjoecannella if you need to contact me.

both of them are the HK Region 3 NTSC DVDs.

I also have Bruce Lee in G.O.D, the japanese NTSC DVD, the only one in anamorphic mode (the HK legends DVD present the footage in 2.35 4/3).

I also have the rare French and Us trailers for Game of Death, all sources from rare DVD, in PAL.

I don't have it but the new Fist of fury 2 discs DVD from HK legends has an interview with Dan Inosanto about Game of Death

Sorry Ash but the pics didn't come up. If you can find any extra footage that you think can be deemed usuable that would be great and if either of the DVDs in that picture were the Bruce Lee Legend Documentary or another featuring footage that would be great too (theres also some cuts on other dvds featuring Kareem with lizard like eyes and nonsuch). OCP, if I use final cut I will have to wait till I get the Powermac (unless it is also available for PC, since thats all I have right now) and to be honest, although I'm not good at all at video editing especially on a PC and this website is actually what made me realize I can really do this project, I was thinking maybe if there is any PC software available now. By the way, if anyone wants to join in and help I will be much obliged. Thanks again peeps... keep in touch

peace

I honestly think I can manage to do it, but I do need a bit of help. I plan on buying a dual powermac g5 soon with protools, idvd and imovie (in ilife 06). I was planning on using protools to do the audio tracks and imovie to reedit the film, seeing as I can do many of the things such as color correction and fixing the aspect ration and editing the film together with it. However, I would like to get a video editing / encoding program to work on this with. I also need to rip some of the video from DVD, and I'm relatively new to this. I was going to use imovie cause I know how to use it but since I don't have the G5 yet I'm using an HP and I'm not to mastered in the arts of using the PC's editing programs. I tried using virtualdub just to edit the video, but its horrible and encoding it makes the files 5 gigs in size when they are only a half hour long. I know this belongs in the help and tutorials section, but can I get just a bit of help here. I have my vision down, and I'm 99.9% sure how I'm going to acheive it, but I could use a little help.

Thanks in advance... especially to all those who sincerely are Bruce Lee fans!

Well I checked it out and it doesn't have the documentary, but I just realized (since I used to own the region 1 Legend set) had the documentary but I sold it and bought the HK Legends set (the 7 Disc set that came out before the US 5 disc set) cause it had the original audio and much better picture. Oh well... the search continues...

No, the name of the actual documentary is called 'Bruce Lee: Legend', but if it is a part of the Hong Kong/FortuneStar Legends collection then I may already have it... and if thats the case then thank you very much magnet.

More feedback... I'll keep you posted on my progress... although I think its going to be a slow start. ; )

Time

For all those whom are Bruce lee fans, you probably know that in 1972, prior to the filming of Enter the Dragon, Bruce Lee began work on a project titled ‘Game of Death’. The basis of the story was that Lee’s sister and brother were kidnapped by a Gang and Lee was told if he wanted to see them again he would have to defeat four (or five depending on which version you have heard of) guards in a 5 pagoda to obtain some treasure at the top. The four guards were all supposedly masters of a certain style except the top guard (Kareem). Bruce was going to use this film to demonstrate his new findings in the errors or Chinese Gung Fu and his own style Jeet Kun do (the way of the intercepting fist) and how using a more formless and destylized way of fighting makes it so you can counterattack any movement an opponent makes. This was never completed. Only various outdoor shots and the final 3 fight scenes were filmed, and after time, disappeared. In 1973, 3 weeks before the release of Enter the Dragon Bruce Lee unfortunately passed away and the filmed was released in 1978 with a new plot, only 10 minutes of the Lee footage, and a double for the rest of the film. It sucked. It was a complete and utter disaster that did nothing more than stain Lee’s good name.

Well… heres my project.

I plan to use footage from the G.O.D. storyline video, The documentary ‘A Warrior’s Journey’, Enter the Dragon, the 1978 Game of Death and The documentary ‘Bruce Lee: Legend’ to reconstruct the closest possible film to what Bruce had wanted.

Footage -

  • New opening credits
  • Footage from GOD storyline featuring Bruce’s character (played by another actor) at the ariport and his sister and brother being kidnapped
  • Bruce at the Gang hideout talking to boss and learning of his plan (also from the GOD storyline video)
  • Footage of the bosses plan and bosses henchmen training (GOD Storyline)
  • Bruce talking to his little borther and sister the day before the fighting (GOD storyline)
  • Bruce and gang going to pagoda plus various shots of outside of pagoda / training / statue shots (A Warrior’s Journey, Legend and GOD Storyline and Enter the Dragon footage)
  • Shots of Lee entering pagoda (GOD Storyline)
  • First floor fight against old man (1978 Game of Death with Bruce Li) {this will be recut as a Kareem double can be seen in the background at times and Bruces face appears ‘beaten up’ at times
  • Final 3 pagoda level fights in full complete form and Bruce going down the steps of the pagoda (end of ‘A Warrior’s Journey Documentary’)
  • Bruce walking outside and away from Pagoda (GOD storyline)

I’m currently still looking for the Bruce Lee: Legend Documentary but I have all of the other footage needed. Let me get some feedback, I hope there are some Lee fans out on this board who also think he deserves a cut of the original story.

Peace.
