STAR WARS - A New Hope [Modernized] [Prequel-OT Bridge]
Time

Anjohan said:

SC38 will be mixed in at the end of the film, BUT - with that being said - I will definitely have to do a lot of rotoscoping work because there are many flaws between that footage and the original film. The background lights change intensity and sometimes shades of white all over the place, and the corridor also looks to get bigger as we switch to the SC38 footage. But I’ll have to see when I start work on that.

First off, I tip my cap to Fixinitpost for their awesome work on SC 38 Reimagined. Second, I think most of us would agree that simply inserting SC 38 into A New Hope is just too jarring. Third, after Vader’s performance in Rogue One, the duel in ANH just doesn’t hold up when viewing the films in chronological order. I grew up with the OT and I love it as it is, however, updated versions are cool too.

For inspiration, I thought I’d share my current cut of this scene. I created some new composite shots and kept tweaking old and new to bring things closer together. My goal was to use as much of the original duel as possible, while only using SC 38 to supplement. Is it perfect?..No, but it certainly gives Vader the ferocity we have come to expect, especially toward his old master.

The video is in 1080 if you download it.

Mando EP3: A New Path (A Book of Boba Fett Edit) [RELEASED]
Time

Great work as always and thank you for sharing your workprint.

I’m left with one major thought:

This is probably just my preference, but I feel like it would be more compelling to end the film with Grogu trying to make his decision. The resolve afterward of him in the ship with Mando just comes too quickly (not your fault — just what you have to work with). Plus, the suspenseful ending could be intriguing.

I know that we don’t know what to expect in the coming season, but one way or another, we will see Grogu end up with Mando, so his decision will be apparent in the next film. Also, the current closing shot could very well be used in that film.

Even if we were never to get another season, I still find that ending to be the most interesting and thought-provoking.

Just my thoughts

Thank you again for the chance to view in advance. I look forward to the finished product!

BATMAN & ROBIN: DEEP FREEZE (Major Batman & Robin edit RELEASED)
Time

I’m really looking forward to this!

A couple years ago, I tried watching the old Batman movies in black and white, and wow what a difference! Everything felt different, and even the campy stuff seemed just dark and creepy. With your cuts and new score, this should be a huge improvement on an otherwise disaster of a film.

THE MANDOVERSE (The Mandalorian Season 1 to 3 & The Book of Boba Fett) | 10 Feature-Length Chapters
Time

I’m working on something quite similar. And I agree with you that no matter how many fine edits are being made by others, we all still have our own vision of how we want to see these stories play out. That’s why so many of us have done our own prequel and sequel edits!

In my cuts, the “present-day” Boba material will become very Mando-centric and will appear as a Mandalorian film. The flashback footage will serve as an anthology film to the Mandalorian story.

Anyway, I’m glad to hear you have a new project going. I’ve really enjoyed your work in the past, so I’m looking forward to seeing these new edits.

Editing other sci-fi movies into Star Wars stories
Time

I’ve actually been thinking about doing this with the new Dune films. I can imagine people asking what the point would be in doing it. I honestly just think it would be a lot of fun.

The second time I watched the new Dune film, I imagined that the events were taking place deep in the outer rim during the dark years after ROTS. When the Emperor was mentioned I imagined it to be Palpatine. The Lady Jessica’s last name would be Dameron, and Paul Atreides would someday go on to have a son named Poe who not only resembled his grandfather but would also long to be a pilot.

Other connections:
Duncan Idaho (who would need a new name) is an exiled Jedi in hiding who senses Paul’s Force abilities
The Bene Gesserit is an order similar to or perhaps connected to the Night Sisters
The Spice Trade from Arrakis would rival that of Kessel

Star Wars music would be used wherever possible, and the opening crawl would name Paul as Paul Dameron Atreides.

Oh masking every scene of Jakku would work, but is it worth the trouble for a subtle improvement? To me, not really.

Actually, I’m not sure you know what I mean. With the color mask tool I use, I basically can select certain colors for an entire scene and then easily change them. The test I ran (which I admit is very rough) only took me about two minutes.

Anyway, on to other things — the Han with the dice shot is really looking good. As I’ve said before, I can’t wait to see your finished edit!

  • The Jakku regrade is pushed about as far as I can take it without the washed out grade negatively affecting the explosions and skin tones and such, and so I’m pretty happy with it.

I see your point with the opening scene on Jakku being at night and having blaster fire, explosions, etc.

However, I put together a quick test using simple color masks to whiten the sand in a couple of the other scenes that do not take place at night. Not that this is necessarily the way you would want to go with this, but I was just curious to see if it might work.

The Force Awakens: Starlight (V1.1 Released!)
Time

First off, I just want to say I’m really loving this edit!

The restructuring has not only breathed new life into this film, it has made it a far superior film. The whole sequence in which the Starkiller Base alarm is sounding and the scenes are inter-cutting from Kylo to Hux to Rey and back to Kylo just gives me the chills. The music build-up there is spectacular, and the woman’s voice over the loudspeaker (“confirming launch window”, etc.) is hauntingly reminiscent of the voice from 1984.

The editing is great, the effects are great. Just a super fun project!

With all that being said, I do have a couple of thoughts on things that I would prefer to see tweaked.

  1. Jakku’s new look is a great idea to differentiate it from Tatooine. I get that when it is either early morning or late evening, the new color effect is not so strong, but for my taste, I would still like to see the sand look a lot whiter in those scenes to fully convince me that we are not on Tatooine.

  2. In a few of the scenes and shots, such as Kylo interrogating Rey, the filter/color-correction used adds what feels like a jarring amount of contrast compared to the rest of the film.

In the end, these are just my thoughts.

Overall, I can’t wait to see the finish product. And I can’t believe you’ve gotten me this excited about The Force Awakens again.

Many Thanks!

Deepfake Tarkin & Leia swap (Rogue One) (up on the Shamook youtube channel)
Time

Amazingly, I was just doing some remastering work on my Rogue One edit this week when your PM arrived. Perfect timing!

Awesome work. Shamook’s Tarkin now feels like he is part of the film image instead of layered over it.

I was considering doing something similar to what you did (adding some noise, adjusting color, et cetera).
Now, thankfully, I don’t have to.

Many thanks!
