Star Wars: The Best of 2007 (Looking Back at 30 Years)
Time

From the official site…

Star Wars: The Best of 2007
December 26, 2007

Looking Back at 30 Years

It’s not always about looking towards the twin sun horizon. Falling between major Star Wars releases, 2007 turned into a year-long retrospective and celebration of 30 years of Star Wars. It began quite literally at the start of the year, and continued for 12 months, with major events, collectibles, and tributes to that far-away galaxy drawing the attentions of fans and, for a time, the rest of the world. Though there weren’t huge releases in terms of television and video games (aside from two major peeks at what’s to come in 2008), those can’t be the sole yardsticks to measure the magnitude of 2007. It was a busy, full year, and yet once again, much like 2004, we’re at the precipice of something much, much bigger yet to come…

Does the last sentence make anyone else a little nervous? or excited?

This will only get us cemented as forever-unsatisfied whiney fanboys. But if people complain "where the fuck is the original Star Wars??" maybe it will be another loud voice to ring up to the ivory tower in Skywalker Ranch. That is really the only in Star Wars fandom that requires us to actually address the guy, complaining about Jar Jar and Anakin is lame, Lucas just lapsed as a filmmaker and you can never change that so move on. The OOT issue is something that can have something done about it, however. Eh, being a Star Wars fan makes me tired sometimes.

Amen brother!

For Halloween (as in Michael Myers) buffs...
Time
I am a huge fan of the original. I went to see Rob Zombie's Halloween on opening day, and I wanted to like it. But I think he missed the point. He made a movie about a psychopath, not the Boogyman. Does that make sense? The thing that worked for the original is the mystery surrounding the Michael Myers character. 6 years old - 21 years old. What happened in between, and why is he the way he is?

I'm not just a Halloween fan, but a fan of John Carpenter. I love his movies. Anyone else here a Carpenter fan?

Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind... 30th Ann. 3-disc set...
Time
I was looking at this set the other day. It looks pretty good. (take notice George) Does anyone know what the differences are between the 3 versions of the film? There is the Theatrical version, the Special Edition and the Director's cut with only a matter of minutes difference between the three. I own the 2001 2-disc director's cut DVD release. Is this new set worth it? Any input?

Sadly it's only SPFX but a great find nonetheless.

The search continues. Though, the more I look, the more I think this was never broadcast.

I can assure you that it was.

Hey Mark, what's the catalog number of your STAR WARS LP ?
I'm guessing the last three digits are "-541" but I can't make out what's before it from the photo.

My own copy purchased in '77 or '78 says 2T-541; however, I don't think mine is a 1st-pressing since it came without a poster.
I'm wondering if yours is an older or newer pressing, or possibly a record club issue with alternate catalog number ?

I appreciate your sharing it (since I'm too lazy to order a new belt for my turntable.)

Star Wars catalog # is 2209-541. I remember having the poster, but have long since lost it.

I own all three of the original soundtrack LPs, and I haven't listened to them in years (I stopped after I bought the CD Anthology and the RCA CDs).

I always assumed that the LPs were just edited down.....do they in fact contain music not present on any of the CD releases? (other than just being heavily edited versions?)

They are just edited down. There is nothing on them that isn't present on any CDs. They are what I grew up with so it's fun to listen to from time to time.
