What You're Reading Now: Revisited

Currently reading "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe" by Douglas Adams and "Code of the Woosters" by P.G. Wodehouse.

"Inside Out" is fantastic! Get it. I got it when it first came out, and had trouble putting it down. It is the best Floyd book I have read. And I've read a lot.

BTW, Roger Waters is touring DSotM in North America again, so if you missed it last year, try to go. Amazing show. Got my tickets today.

PS Powerage is one of my favorites.

Info: The Making of The Empire Strikes Back (Michel Parbot)

I have just been experimenting with a program called 'File Juicer' which extracts text, video, audio, and picture files from larger packed files such as those found in 'Behind the Magic'.

Whilst searching through the text I came across this:

,"How did George Lucas derive R2-D2's name?","The name originated from the film term ""Reel 2, Dialogue 2.""","He simply repeated common phonetic sounds until he discovered one that he enjoyed.","He found the initials ""R2-D2"" on the back of a stereo system.","The license plate on his first car ended in ""R2D2.""","B. He simply repeated common phonetic sounds until he discovered one that he enjoyed.","In [The Making of the Empire Strikes Back], it is suggested that R2-D2's name was, in fact, derived from the film term ""Reel 2, Dialogue 2."" However, in [The Annotated Screenplays], Lucas corrected the tale and revealed that all of the characters' names were created phonetically to be pleasing to hear and easy to say.

Is this official word that 'The Making of the Empire strikes Back' was indeed released?

I thought of that as well. But maybe they are refering to the book, Once Upon a Galaxy: A Journal of the Making of The Empire Strikes Back (Del Rey, 1980)

Years ago while in college, I gave a copy of the SPFX doc (which I hadn't watched in ages) to a mate who was studying animatiion - specifically so he could see that piece of footage, and he reported back that the tape I gave him didn't have it. I watched it again to make sure, as I knew for certain that I had seen it in a 'making of' for Empire, and he was right - it wasn't there.

I've been asking people for years if they remember it, and some of them remember it, but none of them can find it in their collections.

Sounds all too familliar...

I know it aired, cause I saw it. However, not many of us did.

I made this promise in the understanding that it was a special that was never released in any form. If that proves to be untrue or when a lower quality version of this program is already out there I see no reason to hold out on this one.

This has aired before. I have seen it. I had it on tape when I was a kid. I started a thread a looooong time ago asking if anyone else knew of it, but it is long gone. I had convinced myself that I was thinking SPFX, however, I remembered footage that is NOT in SPFX and now after seeing those screen shots, I know I have seen it. I'm not crazy after all! This must be shared!
OK Darth Mallwalker has helped me out... the thread can be see here

Hi 20th Century Mark, it appears you are right

I remember a specific scene showing how they filmed the first AT-AT being taken down using a four foot model. I don't remember seeing that in SPFX.

I have checked the program and there is a section about the fall of the first AT-AT.

Is this proof enough?

I still have heard nothing from thewizard_7 about it.
