Okay, having thought about it some more and letting a break take place first, I will reiterate my prior decision to edit out the mention of lightspeed skipping. I think this is less distracting overall. It’s a tough call and you can make a good case for either route.
In other news, Skenera sent me a great Naboo shot based on snooker’s output without the SD and explosion elements. I will include this in the workprint, which I hope to have ready by the weekend.

Both of those statements sound good to me, I think that sequence with the crew and the Falcon is “less problematic” with it’s jumpy-ness compared to the DSII stuff. However, even with that I am fine with that too. I am ECSTATIC that Light Speed Skipping and Gooney Dagger are dead. So glad.

And I’m sure I’m retreading the same ground, not that I remember, but it seems that the Burning Homestead theme pretty much has to come in and out at that exact moment. Otherwise there’s a definite gap in score that does not feel right. No music at all is extremely underwhelming. So not only does it seem to need to be that piece, pretty much exactly as it is, too.
It doesn’t have to be THAT piece, is what I’m saying. It might have to be the Force Theme (which is what’s in that clip above), but the only thing it HAS to be is roughly 23 and a half seconds long from her grabbing the saber to her blocking the lightning.

I don’t know if you need to recontextualise the line, Finn and Rey don’t immediately talk about Lightspped Skipping until Chewie interrupts. Here is how I handled the scene:

I like this mockup, this works really well, the only change I’d make would be that when you cut from Finn and rey being interrupted by chewie to them and poe talking, it would be a little less jarring if in that next scene you show rey saying what happened instead of just audio of it and then the rest of that scene
This is great! That J cut does a huge amount for the scene, avoids lightspeed skipping dialogue and still keeps more of the trio’s banter intact.

I’m only ever working on it in the middle of the night, with no feedback beyond “that’s dumb” or something. 😅
The tough thing with re-editing Abrams’ films is his “dancing shots”. That’s a jump cut to be sure, but partially because of the way each shot tracks and frames up multiple shots, “dancing” around. I’m trying to get the spin just right, but no matter what, Rey goes from facing one direction to the other.
Maybe I need to cut from her turn to her walking into frame when Poe is examining BB-8? Right before they walk off or something? I think most of that beat is surrounding Lightspeed Skipping though, I’ll have to look if it works.

I cut it but it came up in conversation to reevaluate the idea, leading me to reconsider but come down to the same decision as before.
Jake! Your work looks really good! V3 is a great improvement! It’s honestly a great compromise to removing lightspeed skipping while keeping Rey and Finn’s interaction. What do you think Hal?

I really don’t want to beat a dead horse here, but I made this mockup of the rey/poe argument scene if anyone is interested in checking out. I kept one reference of lightspeed skipping but the rest of the lightspeed part of the argument is gone. My goal was to keep the interaction between rey and finn while trying to not make too much of a jarring cut around the lightspeed skipping references.

Hell yeah. I can’t remember if previous workprints were in 1080p, but I appreciate that this one is. I plan on actually watching this one all the way through - the first time since I saw it in theatres. I’ll provide feedback if I end up having any, but damn, I’m mostly just excited to watch this.

Yeah, the OP should be pretty much right. There’s really just a couple things to be waited on at this point. The color correction and audio and everything other than those few things is intended as potentially final, feedback aside.
Loved it. The final Naboo shot looks great.
Am I wrong or you chose to go back to the original blue tone for Exegol? I kinda liked the grey-ish color from workprint 4.

It should be pretty similar. I applied the ‘grey Exogol’ LUT halfway. But, I didn’t also apply the green reduction LUT halfway at the same time. It’s still much less blue than the theatrical while avoiding issues some scenes can have with making it totally grey.
Hey watching Workprint 5 … I gotta say, its so refreshing with the removal of the lightspeed skipping scene and the 16 hour timer. Praise the Maker!
Initial thoughts thinking about the Poe/Rey/Finn conversation, maybe it would help to add some walking in leaf sounds and even some kind of Finn line or something that goes from a “far” away sound to “closer”? It may make that feel a bit more natural with him “suddenly” appearing.
Still watching so I’ll keep posting some thoughts.
