Every bit of official information around says that in the Star Wars universe, TESB takes place 3 ABY (3 years after the Battle of Yavin), and ROTJ takes place 4 ABY.

Yeah I understand that.
My question was how does canon establish that as a fact?
Someone said it, is just not good enough. Or even if everybody says so is still not enough. There must a reasonable explanation, but this seems like just another urban legend became accepted fact, as the ‘fact’ that Owen Lars is a moisture farmer.

I am glad Adywan waded into the conversation.

I think we have to remember the spirit of these edits. It is my impression these are meant to be “What the Special Editions should have been”.

A lot of the suggested edits go deeper into fan edits than I think Ady intends. All of the " issues" with ROTJ have been discussed at length on other boards. They have never really found a solution. I think we are stuck with them.

Personally I think Lando or Han should have died… Luke should have gone back to train more… The DS2 battle should have taken place at coruscant… But alas.

I am just going to focus my ideas on polishing up the ROTJ we are stuck with.

I only advocated for the restructuring in here because Adywan had already said he planned on doing more dramatic editing changes for ROTJ, not simply a “what the SE should have been” route he went for ANH and ESB.

But since he’s unambiguously said he won’t be restructuring the beginning in such a way, I agree that the discussion about it no longer belongs in Ady’s thread.

HOWEVER:

I will argue, just once, that the opening crawl should be rewritten. Not necessarily to imply that Luke has already been back to Dagobah, but because the crawl as is feels very anemic compared to ANH and ESB. The first paragraph in particular just feels…off. A little rewording and it could be so much better. I really like Neverar’s opening line.

But again, Ady has said he won’t be doing this - I wanted to bring it up once before dropping it because I think it is a necessary improvement, but it’s Ady’s decision.

As long as he adds another period to the ellipsis at the end (ROTJ is the only one with three and it BUGS THE SHIT OUT OF ME), I’ll be satisfied.

I could be wrong, but a part of me hopes he’s referring to my idea! I feel such would be an interesting and worthy demise! Just very ambitious.

I do think people are getting a bit carried away here. This is ady’s edit thread, the ROTJ wishlist thread is that way.

I’m personally just interested in what ady will give us. I don’t really care if it’s not what completely I want, because I know I’m ultimately going to make my own adjustments to it either way. Like the crawl, for example, I 100% believe it needs to be changed, but if ady doesn’t want to, I don’t really care because I know that no matter what I’ll be making my own crawl.

I’d suggest other people disappointed with ady choices should do the same - make your own version. Nothing to lose sleep over, guys.

1. There is a subtle difference that you might not understand, so I highlight it for you.
   I said every possible angle I CAN THINK OF, and NOT every possible angle.
   Reading comprehension matters.

2. Lando is not the ‘too good to be true deal guy’ in my plan. It is the hired negotiator. Lando is merely posing as a hired mercenary protecting him. And the ‘guy’ leaves after the deal is completed.
   Went over your head completely.

3. Mercenaries hide their face, but you think Boba Fett thinks they shouldn’t? With a helmet on his head, eh?
   And he gets suspicious because a seemingly pro asks if there is any work for him, after his job is done with the ‘too good to be true deal guy’?
   Really?

Maybe you are the one who should be considering things in your mind for weeks.

Oh shit, I forgot about that. I really hope he doea. Or at least get the raw scan files from Harmy if not ripping it straight from the Despecialized MKV.

ROTJ needs major changes to approach working. Putting Mark and Ian’s performances onto a shelf for safety the rest is Prequel level bad.
Next to PT:R a heavily reworked ROTJ is what sparked my interest in the whole Revisited project.

If Ady did essentially what he did with ESB:R but with a few editorial changes it would still be interesting and worth watching but there is an opportunity with ROTJ and the PT that just isn’t there with a practically perfect movie like ESB or ANH. A chance to give people a glimpse into something special. Maybe even make a few wrongs a little less unright.

It’s not my show but I do hope that final product(s) shake/s up the film/s as we know it/them from now on in ways that will breath new life into the kind of droopy, hissy side of of the Star Wars inflatable universe.

That would be good if he was using the current Tydirian shuttle since Harmy did a great job with that. However, Ady did say he would be replacing that shuttle type with a different one. (be more of a cargo shuttle as opposed to the exact type that is Vader’s and Pal’s personal shuttle.)

The issue covers a good little chunk of the film, I believe, including all of the shots within the shuttle, Vader’s concurrent scene, and a bit on the ground after landing.

Yeah, it covers (almost?) a whole reel, I think. Even if he’s replacing backgrounds it’s worth using for the difference in clarity on actors’ faces.
