Even though I’m glad that Yub Nub will be coming back, I have to admit that I’m a little disappointed that the ending with the last scene being of the funeral pyre where the Force Ghosts appear will not be used since it sounded like a really good idea.
Is Adywan isn’t using Victory celebration? I guess I missed that detail

If George Lucas knew Episodes VII, VIII and IX would eventually made, he wouldn’t have made the decision to add “Victory Celebration” and the montage of different planets at the end of ROTJ. Now, it kinda makes the ending of the OT a little TOO conclusive in hindsight. I think that’s why Adywan is changing the music back to “Yub Nub” and having the events remain on Endor, just as it was done in 1983.

The galaxy is allowed to celebrate the destruction of another death star & the death of Palpatine.
I know maybe not in his fanedit but really, ST or not, celebrating what appears at the time to be the defeat of this regime makes absolute sense.

That’s a bit outdated. He later decided to bring Yub Nub back, but in a trimmed fashion. Victory Celebration is still gone though. I wish it wasn’t, because I honestly love it, but whatever. Ady can do what he wants.

That must have been written waaaay back, during the briefest of times i was thinking of ending it on the funeral pyre. The ending is going to be pretty much the theatrical ending. NO planets, no Hayden, no Victory Celebration. I hate the SE planet celebrations and victory celebration music. Victory celebration sounds so out of place musically. Williams just basically ripped off the original animatic guide track ( and didn’t even bother to try and hide the fact) and it sounds so out of place in the OT. The guide track was for a Native American mini series and you can tell it still has that theme.

Any chance on ending on something other than Yub Nub? Another Williams track perhaps? One thing I hope will be fixed with the planet celebrations being removed is the jump cut that has been present since '83 where the planets were inserted, sure you’re on top of that already!

I’ve always loved the Luke & Leia track John Williams composed for ROTJ and it’s not really featured in the movie at all. Only the end credits if I remember correctly.

Yeah, I’d like that too. I already suggested it a year or so ago, but I don’t know if Ady saw it. I get not liking the “We Are the World” track in the SE, but Yub Nub is even worse in my opinion. It makes me feel like I’m watching a crappy 80s direct-to-video family movie, not the conclusion to the greatest film trilogy of all time.
Someone did a mockup of the “Luke and Leia” theme from the soundtrack album inserted into the Ewok celebration, and I remember it worked really well. Of course, you’d have to cut out the shots of the Ewoks playing instruments, but I think it’s a great track to end the trilogy on. Melancholy, yet somehow incredibly cathartic.
If Ady thinks this is a bad idea, he’s fine to say so, but I hope he at least considers it. I cannot understate how much I hate Yub Nub.

Huh. I can’t believe I haven’t noticed this before.

I can’t say that either of them are JW best works of art. I completely agree that the Victory Celebration squence should go, its very out of place in the trilogy and even watching it at the end of a 6 part saga, still feels out of place, because it doesn’t even make sense that the whole galaxy is celebrating (and if you are a sequal lover, it makes far less sence as the empire isn’t fully defeated yet).
As for Yub nub, its not great, and feels off for a final ending to the trilogy/saga and the mix with the outro ramp up at the end is a bit messy. But, it fits the scene its in, so short of having someone compose a new piece and recording a orchestra playing it…
Its the best we’ve got so unless adywan has some of his cunning and secret, dark magic, sourcery up his sleeves. Yeah he’s gonna do Yub Nub.

That was me! I’ve revised it now, replacing the instrument shots with both party establishing shots used in the SE (which were 1983 B-roll, so it’s still visually cohesive).
It’s a rough idea, but I like it as a less cartoon-y ending to the movie while not ripping off a temp track.

Oh that is nice, but it is a bit more tender and personal than the scene of joy thats playing out, could work form the point with the ghosts onward if yub nubs fades to a low under tune (i don’t do music so no idea what im talking about) but, that would only work if they they have the same tempo (i think thats the right word for what im thinking of)
I was just playing with the End Credits track from the ROTJ soundtrack and threw this together. I think it could work as a replacement for Yub Nub. Obviously needs some cleanup and polish though. Definitely feels more StarWars-y than either official version in my opinion. Maybe Ady will consider an alternate audio track for the Yub Nub naysayers 😂

Celebrate the love, guys. Yub Nub is the height of semi-diagetic music in SW.
I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

Indeed.
I just posted here how the original score would work just fine with the addition of some more orchestrated melody. I’d also humbly suggest continuing the conversation there instead of further cluttering this thread.

In all seriousness, I think what’s missing from the Yub Nub ending is a bit more of the underlying instrumentality that appears near the end of the scene.
100% agree. I’m not a fan of Victory Celebration, but I think the orchestrations give it that slight edge over Yub Nub, even if it is a ripoff. If some orchestra can be added to Yub Nub a little earlier in the track, I think it would be a happy medium. Up to Ady though! It’s his edit after all 😃

No, the other problem with Yub Nub is the chorus singing cheesy lines like “Celebrate the love!”. It’s just too much, particularly on top of that goofy grinning group photo.

Goofiness and all, I love that group photo shot. It hits me in the heart strings seeing the whole gang smiling in victory at the end of the whole saga.
