@ImpFighter- What's been done to this shot to improve it? I don't remember a discussion or vid clip of that. (I'm not doubting you at all, I just don't remember)

here is a pretty old clip that shows some of the tweaking done to that shot:

http://youtu.be/p2KztwIScY8?t=4m30s

Youtube is seriously getting ridiculous with its copyright claims now. It's blocked most of my videos but with the above one they have muted the audio due to matched content:

Since when was the bloody Cantina music in the ESB asteroid chase? It just shows how screwed up their recognition software truly is.

Have you considered simply uploading your vids to a hosting service? Since it's mostly extracts and comparison shots I doubt it would violate any of their copyrights law and that way we wouldn't have to deal with Youtube crappy compression, crappy bandwith (yes on some countries, watching a HD video from YT is like downloading with a 56k modem) and crappy copyright policies... Simply put no one would have to put up with Youtube's crap ?

Thanks! That is some amazing work, as always. The color correction alone is astounding. The asteroid belt is perfect. And the 'headlight' effect as the falcon flies through the tunnel is the coolest thing ever.

I did use to upload all the clips to places like hotfile, rapidshare, megaupload etc, but you would always get some asshole reporting the files for copyright. I knew it wasn't the hosts recognition software because i started zipping the files and passwording them and they were still getting deleted. I always get someone threatening to report what i'm doing to Lucasfilm, and more recently Disney, so stuff like this is to be expected with assholes like that. They would even smugly comment how they had got it deleted. Bloody Lucas worshippers. ;) And i am certainly not going to only supply the password via private messaging when i get thousands of hits on the videos.

 Seriously ?????

OK there are two things wrong here. First : some Lucas fanboys reporting your work. No one has to like what you do but... Damn!

Second : the videos you post being considered copyright violation. So some edited Lucasfilm images and sound are available freely. What do they fear? That it's gonna ruin their DVD and Bluray sales? Give me a break here...

Fortunately thanks to the magic of browser extension, those who like me can't watch Youtube streaming can still download it. Do you see the irony here : downloading a video from a streaming website so you can watch it... This is what the internet has come to.

Oh by the way, not sure where you are on that but if you'd like some french subtitles for ESB:R I'm still your man :)

I know I've watched this last clip of the Hoth escape before, probably on my tablet...  First time I've seen it on a decent monitor and WOW.  The insane level of detail blows my mind.  I hadn't noticed the dust plumes kicked up by the TIE's lasers for example.

I wasn't even this anxious to see something when my kids were born!

Exactly... It's outstanding work and to think this is outdated is even more curious about what Ady has up his sleeve or how it will be different.

I have one more thing I noticed and I wonder if Lastjedi you remember this but I just give the original film a fresh watch so It's still in mind what I saw.

Like you said about the flash on the Leg of the AT-AT Lastjedi when the Falcon is fleeing cloud city with Luke on board... The Tie fighters are shooting and there are shield flashes just like the AT-AT's leg.

In the special edition it's the scene straight after the Vader getting off the Death Star abomination. Now the white shield flashes have transferred over quite well because of the dark sky. But in the GOUT there are some real funky colors coming off the deflector shield flashes.

I wondered if this could be re-instated if possible somehow and it got me thinking about the Leg you mentioned Lastjedi if instead of the yellow tint we get in the Blu-ray it could be perhaps altered in hue to match a more funky coloration like these shield flashes we see at this point.

can we get that coloration effect across all shield flashes as a continuity thing for deflectcor shield flashes? I think it looks good that's all. It's a white flash with Blue outer rims it then changes to the color of the laser mixed with white and there is a small flame upon it's disapperance.

does anyone know how they created that twinkle to the stars effect back in 1980? I can't figure out if it's animated or it's lights on a starcloth or what?

My guess is that the twinkling star shots are a starcloth as you can see a lightsource bouncing off.. But I have no idea how they did it.

This Artist has the Original ESB starfield colors nailed check it.

I think you have me confused with someone else... I didn't say anything about an AT-AT leg or a shield flash :/

On the topic of where to post videos other than Vimeo/Facebook/Youtube.

I daresay that Google drive works well, though I don't know if it would work with the Forum software, or if there is still the chance of the video's being reported, and there is a GB limit..

There aren't any songs in The Empire Strikes Back.

*creepy spy looks* Ady... Have you been adding songs to the film?

Do you mean more than just a url to a file? If so, no.

or if there is still the chance of the video's being reported,

There definitely is

and there is a GB limit..

 Which makes it pretty useless

Google Drive is a great way to share files between trusted friends, but would be rubbish for this, considering there are people actively trying to get adywan's work removed from the internet.

Have you tried Dailymotion, adywan? I've watched every Doctor Who Confidential episode on there and that's the kind of thing that gets removed quickly on YouTube.

Sorry yeah I meant Lastjedi, whoops.

Will edit..

Darker sky works quite well for the effect but not sure about continuity of sky color so that is perhaps the issue but I don't think it would be that noticeable as a sky can vary depending on where you look. Or somehow blend the cloud at the bottom only to be darker but that is way beyond my rubbish skills

It might be fun to add a couple of frames of red near the blast area (I like the third one as it is to be honest).

That would create the impression that the ray shielding absorbed most of the energy from the shot and what little it didn't, didn't have much in the way of a lasting effect.

Probably a waste of time though because I doubt if the eye would even register something that subtle.

I noticed it as soon as I watched the GOUT that the deflector shield flashes are different through out the film. The Gout Deflector Flashes are much better but low res which is a problem.

It's also quite an iconic shot this one... The Laser that's fired has the correct coloration if a bit subtler than the original. But it is a bigger flash that shrinks and then pops into a small flame against the grey leg.

this is quite diminished in the Bluray so it is different and because the sky is much brighter it's not as noticeable now as it used to be.

I am hoping somehow they can be restored to their former glory.

Yes. For me it was the 26,753rd time a sportscaster used the newly invented phrase "Team GB" during last year's Olympics.

Perhaps the "asteroid canyon sequence" and maybe even the new "Wampa sequence" will be completed by then.

As much as I was looking forward to the possibility of the film being completed by the end of 2013, I would not be the least bit disappointed if Ady needs more time to properly take care of every last detail and carries it on to early 2014 :)
