One could argue that his keeping the Emperor preoccupied during the fighting was probably beneficial for the Rebel forces. I imagine things could have gone differently if Palps had been 100% focused on the battle.

The Emperor didn’t seem too concerned about the battle itself, in fact I thought he tricked the Rebellion into attacking just so he could get to Luke.

I’m a bit sick of people calling Rey a master lightsaber duelist or saying she mastered the Force in TFA. Until she does something like pick up an X-Wing, destroys the Rakatan Temple with a Force Wave, summons Dark Side tendril, and defeats a healthy top tier Force wielder I don’t want to hear anything about Rey mastering anything.

Is that what happened?
I’m pretty sure his main plan was to get rid of the Rebel fleet, thereby the Rebel Alliance in general. He says himself that Luke would have come to him by hos own will at some point anyway.
Giving the fake plans to the Bothans, letting the shuttle past the shield, etc. seem like a ludicrously complicated plan just to get one guy who would have forced himself to confront Vader/Palpatine at some point anyway.
I’m pretty sure his main goal at the battle of Endor was to destroy the Rebel fleet, and Luke showing up at the same time was a predicted bonus (not to mention a plot convenience).

I honestly feel like the Emperor isn’t too concerned with Luke at all until Luke shows up on the Death Star.
On the same note, though, I don’t think he was that concerned with the Rebel fleet once they were there, either.

Well, maybe not “concerned”, but they were definitely his military priority at the time. However Luke was definitely his focus at the time.
Since he had everything so well planned out he probably wasn’t that concerned about anything really.
(It’s like Luke said to him; “your overconfidence is your weakness”.)

Exactly, that last line is what led me to make that post.
He’s just so used to things going as he plans/foresees, that he almost doesn’t care. That’s why I feel like the concept of him using this “battle meditation” thing to be so goofy.

Of course he’d go through the trouble just to get Luke. Darth Vader was old and he wanted Luke to take his place. Darth couldn’t fight very well anymore as all his limbs were gone. Also, getting Luke would be a blow to the rebels. Also Luke is the only one who knew the Force Kick and he wanted to add that move to his repetoire.

Was he joking?

Whaaaa?
I think certain are-they/aren’t-they trolls are finding that they aren’t getting the response they want, so they have to become more obviously troll-like.
I’m not convinced in this case.
i suppose it can just be a strange (to me) sense of humor
I’m not convinced of that either!
I suspect option C, and I’m not sharing my opinion on what that is.

This*** though I do think her choreography was pretty weak compared to Rens. Adam Driver looked awesome when he fought. Rey’s choreography consisted mostly of pathetic stabs. I hope that once she gets trained by Luke she has some type of warmup fight in ep.8 where she actually has cool fighting choreography but then when she fights Ren I want him fully trained, fully in tune with the dark side. It’d be nice to see her get an ass whooping by a healthy and improved Kylo Ren that hasn’t just come out of a emotionally traumatic event.

If that does happen people will just call it back peddling. We’re going to hear a lot of “Well why did Kylo beat her now when he couldn’t beat her when she had no training?” which will start up more or less the same debates we’re having at this current time.
As it pertains to the actual story I hope that both of their dueling skills get refined. I want Rey to be more graceful with the lightsaber (which the video of Daisy training suggests) and I want Kylo to be more savage in terms of how he operates. And yes she definitely needs to struggle in VIII as it’s good character building. What would Luke be without his stumbles in ESB?
I really liked Kylo’s style of fighting. It was very reminiscent of Vader and Anakin, but also his own thing. I loved the strong one-handed swings he did.
I always thought it was great filmmaking to have Vader duel Luke one-handed on Cloud City.
While Luke is trying his hardest to hold his own with two hands, Vader is effortlessly making a fool of him with one hand (until Luke gets a hit on him, after which Vader loses his composure a bit). So much is said in the fighting style throughout that duel.
I feel similarly about TFA. Kylo’s fighting is obviously not masterful like Vader’s (I feel like Kylo knows cuts, but not so much proper dueling) but he obviously knows more than Finn who is on his heels for the entirety of their fight. Rey is also on her heels until she really connects with the Force.
Kylo shows a lot of the brash overconfidence and flash of a wannabe (or someone who’s acting like he thinks a Sith Lord like Vader would act) that’s never been properly challenged, and then when the Force manifests itself strongly in one of his opponents, his bravado and ability crumbles.

I think Kylo was surprised when Rey came at him with such ferocity and I think by the time she struck him on the leg it was too late. Either that or he needed more training in Soresu.
