I really wish we'd seen some Japanese people in the SW films. I mean, GL wanted to cast Toshiro Mifune as Obi-Wan!

And his early idea circa 1975 for having Han Solo be black was clearly what led to the creation of Lando in ESB.

Shame the casting of Japanese actors didn't happen--I guess the production crew on ROTJ was too busy making alien masks to bother putting human faces before the camera.

That article can't be trusted, because it quotes someone who has been fired.

For Star Wars knowledge this obscure, one must consult Leland Chee of Lucasfilm.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

That technically counts. Still, I'd really like to see a prominent Asian actor in the new SW films, somebody with a significant role on a par with Samuel L. Jackson's in the prequels.

Or, heck, even somebody with a small but memorable role like Denholm Elliott in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

There was talk in other parts of the forum about one of my favorite movies from childhood, Planet of Dinosaurs. Subsequently, it has now become a personal goal in my life to own a poster from that film.

Whilst looking around for an original print of the poster online, I stumbled upon the Lebanese version:

I like.

There seems to have been a trend of foreign movie posters blatantly stealing SW imagery. Did they think nobody would notice?

That the screenwriter is named Lucas is icing on the cake. ;)

Where were you in '77?

In all the years the EU's been around, I don't think anyone's ever really written a SW story set on a planet full of dinosaurs. That should be rectified in the near future.

 Wait--what??  I thought I did!

In his 1977 story conferences with Leigh Brackett, GL said something about wanting to create a fantasy film where all the knights rode around on giant lizards.

Then he made Willow and completely failed to pick up on that idea.

(Or maybe he just realized how hard it would be, thanks to all the stop-motion Tauntauns and AT-ATs used in ESB.)

Pity, in my view. I'd really like to see on screen a fantasy world where heroes ride on sauruses in the vasty desert, Lawrence of Arabia style.

A planet with dinosaurs is not a planet of dinosaurs. Get with the distinction, people!

Planet With The Apes just doesn't have the same ring, does it?

Actually he did make this movie, it's just that the final production design really hid the fact that Tauntauns were originally conceived as snow lizards.  When I saw that description of them, I thought the writer was on drugs--they were clearly mammals of some sort for goodness sake, but then I saw it elsewhere, so, uhh... vasty ice fields, anyone?

Nah, he got it out of his system in 1985 for Ewoks: The Battle For Endor

You've piqued my interest. I'm about to watch it now.

I hope you enjoyed it! It takes a certain kind of person to appreciate that kind of film. Don't forget to post a review!
