Last movie seen

Thought this would make an interesting thread..so here goes:

Night Moves (1975): An interesting mid 70's piece about a washed up former football star turned private eye. Existential to a point, so the plot isn't really the most important thing. Reminiscent of The Conversation. A great performance from Gene Hackman, who reunites with Bonnie and Clyde director Arthur Penn. **** out of **** Highly recommended.

"Seven Samurai" (Shichinin no samurai)

It's taken a long long time for me to get around to watching Akira Kurosawa's most masterful works. I've started with this one. What a truly powerful film!

Plot: A poor village under attack by bandits recruits seven unemployed samurai to help them defend themselves.

Note: This film's plot was re-worked and Americanized in Hollywood, and became the basis for the classic western "The Magnificent Seven")

Nice!  Loved it.

The Mist.  I was pleasantly surprised, despite some dodgy CG.  Really loved the ending.  3 balls out of 4 balls.

"Horror of Dracula"

Not the best Dracula film out there, not even the best starring Christopher Lee, but a pleasant diversion and leagues better than "Bram Stoker's Dracula."

"The Orphanage"

Well-made and entertaining, but it followed the by-now worn out plot of "Dead people point protagonist to decades-old injustice." 2 1/2 stars.

Which Dracula film with Christopher Lee is better than Horror and what is the best one?

Fury-Fritz Lang's first American film about a regular joe nearly lynched by a mob. When everyone believes him dead he sets out for revenge...4 stars.

On the Waterfront-finally got to see this one and it really deserves its reputation. 4 stars.

"Count Dracula" with Christopher Lee directed by Jess Franco is probably the best in both regards. Dracula is genuinly frightening, but with a depth that isn't romantic but more historical. Lots of great language from the novel, and a tour de force performance from Lee.

The only thing stopping it from being the clear and undisputed best Dracula was the ridiculous overuse of the zoom lens. It's like a home movie in some spots.

That's just my opinion, and to be fair, there are two Dracula adaptaions I havent seen yet (Dernhelm Elliot and Jack Palance as the Count).

Yeah, but that movie was FUCKED UP in some totally new ways. I mean damn... sad and messed up. Just recalling it makes me uncomfortable.

How could it be crap with a title like that?

For me:

(500) Days of Summer as an adult.

Speed Racer as a kid (with the kids).

(500) had 2 scenes I really liked... and the rest of it was kind of meh.  I was watching it while working on my laptop (and my wife organized her scrapbooking stuff) and so the disjointed storytelling kind of lost me at times.  2.5 or possibly 3 of 5 $&%@^!.

Speed Racer.  I know people hate this movie... I can't help but love it.

"They're my movies." -George Lucas. 19 people won oscars for their work on Star Wars (1977) and George Lucas wasn't one of them.

I agree, lord help me.  I Netflixed it and had such a fun time watching it that I will probably get it on Blu at some point.
