There are also a number of EU characters who have real world names. Mara Jade, Nomi Sunrider, Alexandra Winger, Shira Brie, Zak Arranda, Gav and Jori Daragon, Keiran Halcyon, Celeste Morne, Callista Ming, etc, etc.

Why do characters post ROTJ have to have weird space-names?
The characters in the OT had normal names. Luke, Ben, Han, Leia, Lando. But in the PT and EU (what little I know of both) the new characters all seem to have silly sci-fi type names. Seems goofy to me.
I'm pretty sure that trend will continue into the ST.I know, I can't move for people called Lando in my neck of the woods.
You may not know anyone by that name, but it is a real name.
And Obi-Wan isn't that weird. Sounds Asian and he's a weird wizard so he gets a pass on having a weird name.
As for Anakin, yeah, that's a weird one, but an occasional odd name doesn't bother me. Maybe the EU isn't as bad about this as I believe, but it seems every character has some weird name, where as in the OT the main cast had normal names.
Wedge, Dak, Biggs....
Tank, Riekann (sp?), Dodonna, Needa, Piett... ;)

Nomi? Shira? Jori?
I forget, are you an Aussie?

Those aren't main cast and most aren't even named on screen.

There's what I'm lookin' for. Like I said, I don't know the PT or EU very well. Seems that all the characters I hear about have silly sci-fi space names.
Still, those names sound very exotic compared with the names of the OT cast.
I think that's because the idea is that these people don't live on earth, and thus mostly don't have the same names we do. I know plenty of kids with names more exotic than that, because they aren't European. I've never had a problem with funny names, because there are even funnier ones in real life.
For instance, there was a kid in my grade 7 class with a seventeen letter first name. He usually shortened it to Sisan for other people's benefit, but it beats most of those Star Wars names in terms of exoticity (is there a better word for that?).

If by "Most", you mean "A quarter", then yes ;-)
For the record I agree with your general point. Outside of the OT (Which isn't totally immune) there are some truly terrible name choices. Almost to the point that you think the writers are trying to make them laughably bad on purpose. The worst is when they just pick a name for evil at random from the dictionary and call the villain that e.g.
Savage Opress from TCW and Agent Kallus from the new Rebels show.
It shows a woeful lack of imagination that is almost impressive. I'm sure at some point in the future there'll be a Sith Lord called 'Baad Gi', it's just a matter of when.
VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.
Don't give them any ideas! ;)
Where were you in '77?
Might I suggest a Star Wars names thread at this point?
Yes, I might.

Well, they're real world names regardless of their nationality or commonality. =P

I'm honestly surprised they haven't come up with a "Darth Satanus" yet.
What did I just say!?

Actually, I may start using that one... ; )
Wouldn't a Snow Speeder make more sense?
That young Timmy wears a crash helmet makes me think this thing might be a tad dangerous.

If it's available where you live... part one of Neil Brand's 3-part doc on the history of film music is available on BBC iPlayer...

This part covered big orchestral scores, so naturally it touches on the influence of Star Wars and in turn Korngold's influence on it. Well worth a watch. I didn't remember seeing the footage of JW conducting along to the B&W workprint of ESB but I probably have seen it somewhere before in the dim past.

Another cool ancient artifact from the golden age of ILM...

This is somewhat interesting, but I don't like that it relies on the Special Edition of ANH to make it plausible.
You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.
Episode 9 Rewrite, The Starlight Project (Released!) and ANH Technicolor Project (Released!)
Owen and Beru were not disintegrated. There were corpses.
^Also the Stormtroopers didn't "miss wildly". In the opening scene they gun down and capture most of the Rebs we see. And while in the Death Star chasing our heroes, well, as Leia says- "They let us go. It's the only explanation for the ease of our escape."
And Boba Fett wasn't working for the Empire in their search for the droids, he was busy working for Jabba lookin' for Han.
The Stormtroopers are only Boba clones if you accept the prequels and Boba was only on Tattooine at the time if you accept the SE.

Really, it’s just refreshing to see Star Wars speculation that’s not about the new trilogy.
No, it's still stale to hear silly speculations based on the PT and SE.

It's just as bad as the one about Chewie being a secret Rebel agent in cahoots with Artoo.
I'm only posting this so that I am not alone in my jaw dropping befuddlement, and general mass confusion as to why this exists. If it's offensive to anyone, I apologize.
