Given the reactions to the rumors here, I wonder if there's any possible storyline that could be suggested that wouldn't get a bad reaction.

I could only ever truly support a progression of the story. Not a retread. Sith in the shadows causing trouble is fine. I can imagine some bad guy always trying to use the dark side of the Force. Its the continued existence of the Empire which gets me.

I guess to make a sequel to the original movies you had to basically nullify Return of the Jedi, but its just a weak way to make a sequel happen. No creative new threat. We even saw TIE Fighters, not TIE Interceptors in the sneak peak trailer which to me was saying "Return of the Jedi didn't happen, folks!".

Oh well.

If only that was the case... I could blow a cop in order to get a proper sequel to The Empire Strikes Back. Han Solo is still frozen in carbonite as far as I'm concerned. Unfortunately the bitter truth is that the new movie will have grampa Solo in it.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Sincerely, Lynne Hale publicity@lucasfilm.com

ROTJ or not, seeing the same fighters 30 years afterwards is a stupidity from the story point of view.

They brought X-wings and TIE fighters back just so they can play on the "look we are going back to OT" note. I am sure many fans get "orgasm" by seeing X-wings again... LucasFilm knows that and exploits it for marketing reason of course.

Almost everyone likes X-wings and TIE fighters. They just play it safe and reuse the already proven stuff. But the film creativity will suffer because of that.

I don't mind the X-wings, because they're clearly updated as one would expect. Same with the Stormtrooper armor. Keeping one classic ship design somewhat unchanged from the original trilogy seems reasonable to me.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

In wartime (for example WW2) new models of war-planes were developed on yearly basis. I think TIE interceptor and A-wing introductions in ROTJ nicely followed that paradigm.

Even if I somehow accepted the use of upgraded X-wings 30 years later, they didn't seem upgraded at all in the trailer.

Black hat villains with red lightsabers, that's just Star Wars, man.

Not in my universe, it ain't.

Just because two people disagree doesn't mean they live in different universes.

Not physically, at any rate.

I hope the rumors are totally false because i want a fun movie that is pure escapism and i can leave reality behind for 2 hours.

I don't want something that is overly political nor do i want moral relativism.  Two things i despised about the prequels.

The so called rumors sound like 1980's American politics  with the politics of ten years ago and the politics of now.

The good guys not really being the good guys sounds like moral relativism, i suppose the empire never really was nazi like either and the rebels invented Palpatine's atrocities.

The way Han dies sounds like bad Eu like when Jacen Solo Murdered Mara Jade. Luke being a recluse sounds like bad EU like before the storm where luke becomes a hermit and builds a castle to hide from the world like a coward.

I am not a JJ Abrams hater, i am sure it will be visually interesting and entertaining despite if the plot is good or bad, or not my cup of tea as the expression goes.

The plot was wonky but i liked Super 8.  Halfway enjoyed  Trek 2009 even through its not star trek and enjoyed some of the dumber parts of into darkness for their sheer entertainment but again the plot was really bad.

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

Something that moves past superweapons, Sith lords, universe shrinkage, and black hat villains with red lightsabers would do it for me ...

Same here, I don't mind superweapons, provided they are not more Death Stars, and that they are not central to the plot but I do wish they would have avoided cliches and the whole 'small universe' aesthetic. That last point seems to be exacerbated by the fact that they seem to be now channeling horror 'tropes'.  It all seems very darkly self-aware.  A far cry from the first film despite the filmmakers efforts to get back to the source material.

There should be more to the series than desert planets, Stormtroopers, TIE fighters and black clad villains with blood-coloured weapons.

I won't be surprised if this backfires on Disney. Mainly because the vocal fans who wants the new movie to be one big nostalgic trip down their memory lane aren't necessary reflective of the much larger casual SW fans who didn't grew up with the OT.

PT fanboys are not real people so who cares about them?

The public still thinks of Star Wars as Luke, Han and Leia vs Darth Vader, Boba Fett and Stormtroopers.  Having the big three pass the torch will give the new characters a leg up in acceptance.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

Well, leaving nostalgic reasons aside, I'd like to think there will be a reason in the story why we'll still see OT-style Tie Fighters.

So far we see that the Rebels had a chance to make some modifications to their X-Wings, but we do not know yet what all else they have nor what else the Empire has. We've only seen a teaser. I'm guessing, though, we'll get a mixture of old and new to appease everyone.

Just a thought: It's a safe bet those Tie Fighters in the teaser are Imperials, but for all we know, those particular fighters may be scavenged by pirates.

The point is, we are not certain what all is going on and maybe we should have some trust in those who do.

Just because the ships look the same doesn't mean that their specs haven't changed and maybe the Empire no longer has the resources for new ships.

Would be nice to have a surprise, but with Stormtroopers and TIE Fighters seen in the trailer its guaranteed to be a still-existing Empire.

Well I grew up with OT and they are my 3 favourite films. Still I would be disappointed if they make it a nostalgic trip instead of giving us something new.

The point is that OT is unique. There is no point in trying to reproduce or copy it. If I want OT I go see OT.

Hey, it's been a few days, so here is the latest round of bullet points that may or may not have anything to do with Star Wars Episode VII:

Some time after they escape the brig, Poe goes his own way and Finn wanders into the desert town. There’s Stormtroopers there. Finn and Rey take the Falcon to evade them. It is said the Falcon is “swallowed” by the giant freighter once they get to space. A lot happens to Poe and Finn before that but we’ll save that for another day. There’s still a few details that need to be ironed out.

The Gist:

  • Finn and Rey steal the Falcon.
  • The kids end up on a huge freighter in space.
  • Han is there to meet the kids with Chewbacca.
  • Han wants them off his plane ship.
  • Finn convinces Han to let them stay.
  • Something happens with the chessboard.
  • Han checks the video screen.
  • A gang is there!
  • Han explains the cargo (creature(s) without description).
  • Han hides the kids.
  • The kids pull the fuse in the Falcon.
  • It’s a good distraction.
  • The cargo is released.
  • Fin is dragged away by cargo and saved by Rey.
  • Hell breaks loose.
  • Chewbacca is wounded in the fight
  • Rey fights off the gang by herself.
  • Falcon has issues.
  • Rey fixes Falcon impressing Han.
  • Some of the cargo splatters on the Falcon windshield as they race out.

I'm still waiting for a rumour that says Kylo Ren is really a protagonist to show up. Every time it fails to make an appearance, I grow a little more jaded.

I can't back up the credibility of this rumor, just like with any other, but here you go :)

  • Kylo Ren is actually a misunderstood character who saves the day.
  • He merely enjoys the outdoors and goes on frequent hikes into the woods.
  • In the teaser he wears a specialized black jumpsuit that is designed for optimal insulation in cold weather.
  • He packs light and always carries with him a Swiss army saber.
  • Just like any Swiss army saber, his has many functions. In the teaser, he's just about to use it for bushwhacking.
  • Soon afterward he discovers a helpless person on the frozen ground. That person is Luke!
  • Kylo also sees the creature that Luke was riding, already lifeless in the snow.
  • He then cuts open the corpse and stuffs Luke inside until they can travel to the nearest settlement the next morning (it's like poetry, it rhymes).
  • Kylo Renn saves Luke!

So.... just out of curiosity, does anyone else suspect that Kylo Ren is going to be basically a film version of Darth Caedus?

The cure is definitely worse than the disease in this case.

If a customer asks for something specific, the seller had better give them just that, right? :)

Looks like there will be a signed photograph from the main cast that'll be auctioned off. I can only imagine how much one would be willing to buy it for.
