I sincerely doubt it, based on Earl’s posting history.

I was poking fun at Darthrush’s hilariously awful use of words he uses to describe the “beauty of women”.

But anyway,
A Night To Remember (1958)

Definitely the best retelling of the Titanic disaster, it manages to engage the audience without major use of fictional characters in the real disaster. This movie doesn’t waste it’s time when it comes to the actual sinking, it’s quick and to the point. The ship hits ice 30 minutes in and the next hour and 20 minutes are dedicated solely the ship, it’s passengers and crew. The miniatures and sets are also quite good, not as impressive as the near life size replica used in Cameron’s Titanic but still well made and accurate sets no less, the few shots that stood out as looking quite bad were a few in which the actors were clearly in front of a rear-screen projection. There also are quite a bit of historical inaccuracies, the biggest being the ship sinking in one piece and the ship being christened before it’s launch (the White Star Line never christened their ships). Several scenes might also confuse viewers who are not well versed in what happened on ship that night, an example is a scene in which one of the chefs gets drunk during the sinking which I thought when I first watched it was a cheap attempt at humour until I learnt about the context. Definitely give it a watch if you like drama and/or disaster movies.

I always thought this was the best Titanic movie.

Eh, at least the ship wasn’t sunk by a giant octopus in that movie.
And at least that one never had a sequel.
Unlike another certain animated Titanic movie.

Even though more than one survivor said the ship broke in two before she sank, this was mostly disregarded until the wreck was found in 1986.

IIRC, the movie “borrowed” some shots from the 1943 German propaganda version made during the WWII.

How many animated Titianics are there?

I’d keep hoping Rifftrax or the new MST3K does the rapping dog one.

Sin City 3/10

Ugh, I’d rather watch Spy Kids. I know it’s based on Frank Miller’s comic but as a film it doesn’t work at all for me.

Bridge of Spies 8/10

Tropic Thunder 7/10

Gladiator 8/10

Pulp Fiction 9/10

War Dogs 8.5/10

Really shocked by this one. It was much more serious than I expected and the performances were excellent all around. The editing was also something worth noting, the way they edit together meetings and other boring stuff is so perfect. To me it was like a shorter version of The Wolf of Wall Street except the protagonist isn’t a complete asshole and still turns out to be a genuine guy.

Raising Arizona (1987)

I freaking adored this film. Great performances all around, I especially loved John Goodman and William Forsythe as the dimwitted criminal brothers. The story was silly but enjoyable, and my god if that baby wasn’t the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Loved it.

9/10

That’s okay. It probably doesn’t work as a comic, either.

RoboCop (1987) – A

Just wonderful. It’s probably an almost perfect film, for what it is.

YES.
YES YES YES. RoboCop is one of the best films ever made (and I’m not joking or using hyperbole there)

RoboCop 2 (1990) – C+

There are some things that I like in it, but generally isn’t very good in my opinion. I guess the story it told just wasn’t the story I wanted to hear. Definitely not in my personal canon 😛.

There’s some really great stuff in RoboCop 2. It’s nowhere near as brilliant as the first film, but all the bits involving RoboCop’s new directives are gold.
“A rolling stone is worth two in the bush!”

Phantom lady (1944)
I’ve recently been on a bit of a film noir kick and managed across this one. Story is fairly alright, and the reveal of the villain doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense but the film’s style is what it has going for it. Plus it’s nice to see a film noir with a female protagonist for a change.

Four balls out of five

Double Indemnity (1944)
Noir? Billy Wilder writing and Directing? Barbara Stanwyck?
YES PLEASE.
Five balls out of five

Blacula (1972)
Hell. YEAH.
This movie is fucking great.

Flipping through my Netflix queue this morning looking for something to watch while waiting for the DVD of The Conjuring to show up, I came across the first of these. Watched the first five (through E) and I’ll admit it’s not that great so far, but I wouldn’t go so low as a 3/10.

I just looked up “F” and it’s for “fart” so that doesn’t encourage me, however.

Solaris (2002)
6/10

i haven’t seen this in 12 years or so, but it seems just as good now as it did then. But is more of a psychological sci-fi and doesn’t really try to wow with special effects, so the special effects still seem to work just fine. I like that it leaves its meaning open to interpretation. (basically, it still confuses me, hah)

has anyone seen the 1972 version of this? worth seeing?

Ha you should have went to Wal-Mart. Ours has the conjuring in the $5 bin. I wouldn’t imagine were the only one.

We also had the BLU RAY of the Fellowship of the Ring. Seems odd to have a brand New blu ray of a big name movie that cheap.

No, I mean I’m waiting for the disc to come from Netflix. We maintain the DVD membership because there are tons of movies that aren’t available to stream.

Aw, man! Walmart here never has any Blus in the $5 bin! At best, there’s the occasional DVD with a slipcover.

FotR is 15 years old and the theatrical single movie Blu-ray is 5 years old.

I find that the cheap bin at Walmart is full of brand new Blu-rays for big name movies, or they wouldn’t be sold at Walmart.
