Fant4stic: 4/10

Took too long to get started but wasn’t completely terrible until the half-way point. Terrible CGI is basically unforgivable in the movie and a lot of stuff makes no sense. I don’t even know why I watched it.

You are being far too generous with your 4/10.

Well I take “It’s not as good as people says it is” as saying “I know better than everyone else” or “You should trust my opinion over most others” but that’s just me.

You can read minds though;

I don’t have to when I can just read the post.

we can’t and just have to assume that his comments were made in good faith.

I’m sure he didn’t have any malicious intent with that post but taken at face value the post indicates that his point of view on the film holds more weight than others. Had he said something like “I don’t feel as though this film is as good as people have led me to believe” the entire feel of the post would have been totally different even though he was essentially saying the same thing.

Or it means “people are excited now, so they rate it high, after a while they may see it differently”.

I have too much respect for the source material to even watch the trailer for that abomination.

I may be a tad too generous but IMO the movie was mostly entertaining until they got their powers. From there it fell apart and continued to get worse until it was almost unbearable.

I know it isn’t faithful to the comics at all but I won’t lie the trailer made the film look half decent

I agree. I thought the film would be okay from the trailer. It wasn’t.

Captain America: Civil War is a superhero fight done RIGHT! Every character has clear motivations, they all have a reason to fight. There are clear idealogical differences between the heroes.
The film does have problems, but those are not glaring story or character issues (like some other recent superhero movie I know…). One problem is the nauseating shaky cam and quick-cutting, especially in the opening sequence. Another issue is the ugly, giant subtitles used to specify locations. Most movies may have these at the bottom or corner of the screen, small and out of the way. Civil War has MASSIVE TEXT BLOCKING THE ENTIRE SCREEN!
It is a lot of fun. This may actually be Marvel’s best, I need to think on it for a while.

This. If I do a fanedit, I’m definitely cutting the opening action sequence, I could not for the life of me tell what the hell was going on on screen, it was almost as bad as Taken 3 IMO.

The huge text was way too overdone, many movies have text showing the location once or twice in the first few minutes of the movie but it happened after every single scene transition an made no difference at all. The fact that the characters are in a different story doesn’t actually make a difference, it should just cut directly to our other characters with a transitional musical cue and leave it at that. Helicopter shots and huge text are a thing of the past.

Um, you’d cut out the inciting incident that sets off the rest of the movie?

Glad you enjoyed it 😃 The text placement was a little jarring but I felt was nice for the theatre certain times like when it said “Queens” in bold, they signaled the introduction of Spider-Man in bold. The shaky cam was bad at the start, but I feel not as bad as some superhero films (cough cough batman begins). In a fan edit though you could trim small bits that are the worst of the bunch when it comes to shakiness so that you leave the better bits and it doesn’t affect the story.

Well the whole conversation would come up when the lady scolds Tony Stark for “killing” her son and then it would be followed by the meeting scene with the footage from previous movies. It would mainly come up from Tony Stark conceiving the idea of “being put in check” himself and following through with it before giving the other Avengers a choice.

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2006): 8/10

I really liked it on it’s own, but once I found out that Sacha Baron Cohen improvised most of the lines and that most of the “actors” didn’t know they were in a film, I gave it even more credit.

The Truman Show (1998): 8/10

Really great film, loved the social commentary, the performances were all great, particularly Jim Carrey, who does a subtle yet comedic performance. I only wish he did more films like this.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004): 10/10

Hey, look at that, he did do another serious performance! And the movie managed to be even better than The Truman Show. May well be the peak of human physical creation.

Whiplash (2014): 9/10

Amazing film, certainly second best of 2014. All the actors did a great job, in particular JK Simmons as the abusive teacher. The cinematography and colour palette were both also fantastic.

Army of Darkness (1992): 8/10

Extremely fun, a few characters are underdeveloped and some jokes just come off as stupid, but all the action was very fun and Bruce Campbell does a great job at playing Ash.

Fargo (1996): 8/10

Really great, though a few characters felt useless and the ending was a bit of an anticlimax, it more than made up for it with fun and memorable characters and some great direction.

Captain America: Civil War (2016): 7/10

I liked it so much more watching it a second time. I actually cared about the characters and was entertained for one thing. It still has flaws, but I don’t think they outweigh the good things.
