I honestly wasn’t sure what he meant by modern. I mean, I didn’t lose respect for Jeff Bridges when he starred in the remake of True Grit, because it was superior to the original film adaptation (and really anything else starring John Wayne, for that matter). If modern refers to remakes made post-2015, then True Grit wouldn’t be included in that statement. And even though my original question wasn’t entirely serious, I wouldn’t put that thought process past him 😉.

Agreed.
I do prefer the Bridges TG to the Wayne TG, but neither is as good as The Quite Man or a good handful of other films with John Wayne in.
And I’m gonna go ahead and guess that Dek hasn’t watched enough John Wayne films to be able to make that statement anyway.
But that’s alright. he’s only young.

I’ve seen plenty John Wayne films, and I even like some of them (like Hatari!), but John Wayne has to be one of the most overrated actors in history. He’s not a great actor. Other actors who ‘play themselves’ are interesting and can pull of a character (like Jimmy Stewart), but I just find John Wayne’s acting to be quite bland and unlikable.

Well, I guess that’s your opinion, but I’m not a very hip and edgy person. I just don’t care for John Wayne’s acting very much.

I do absolutely love Jeff Bridges’ Rooster Cogburn. I haven’t had the pleasure of reading the book yet, so I don’t know if I love the original character.

I wouldn’t really say I was disrespecting him, just stating an opinion. And so, first, saying that I don’t like John Wayne’s acting is apparently a ‘hip and edgy’ opinion, but then, I wouldn’t be saying such things if I were hip and edgy? I’m not getting your point.

I’m sorry, I just don’t think his acting is anything spectacular. As far as I’m concerned, he’s pretty much average and overrated.
