Remember this guy?
It's literally a praying mantis wearing a skirt.
And this is literally why Trek will never beat Wars when it comes to awesome alien designs.
Of course, the Gorn does come close ...

Note how BB-8 is being puppeteered.
Like a puppet on a stick... interesting.
Is that BB-8 though? It looks like it has wheels. The body also looks kind of boxy.
It could be that Rey had a droid before she met BB-8. Kind of like Luke's tool droid on Tatooine before he meets R2-D2 and C-3PO.
Star Wars is Surrealism, not Science Fiction (essay)

Nah, that's BB. I don't have time to photoshop an outline, but he's pretty easy to see.

Yeh, it's definitely BB-8
And did no one notice the Millennium Falcon in this shot? ;) (Click for larger image)

Not sure that's really a fair comparison, unless you include all of modern Trek.
Where were you in '77?

It looks like a droid to me.
Might be a model that does the heavy lifting. I'm also getting a Futurama vibe. ;)

Well ... it looks like old Carrie Fisher to me
It might be the angle, but her features look softer to me. :o)
A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.
I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Nice little interview with the production designer on TFA.

So you really think this thing wouldn't stick out in the Cantina?
Sure, there are some low budget masks in there, but I have little problem throwing a little imagination in and believing those creatures really live in that world. They don't look purposefully goofy.

Don't worry, I was just joking*.
*Well, half-joking.

From the article;
They also reverse-engineered the VFX to accommodate, for example, 2D forced perspective backings rather than relying on CG.....You can glimpse this in a corridor shot in the Comic-Con making-of reel
I caught it immediately and was really happy to see it. It's that attention to continuity that will make these a welcome addition to the franchise. Story and character first, but there is most certainly something to be said for visual continuity as well.

Again, there's no comparison with those guys and the fuzzy minion vader.
I gots no problem believing in those creatures and they weren't designed for laughs.
As for the big mantis, you only see a piece of it and for less than 2 seconds.
The picture of it that was posted is not in the film. Even George hated that thing, but had to make do with what he had. I don't mind such things in a low budget film.
And, again, I can believe in that thing more so than the fuzzyminionvader.
I'm sure we won't see much of him, if at all, in the finished film. But the fact that the design was OKed and that he was picked for the comicon reel is a bit.... Meh. Who cares.

I wonder if this is the photo that fooled Kenner into thinking Snaggletooth was six feet tall? Doesn't explain why they thought he was wearing blue though! ;)

That, or it looks like one of these guys...
...there to give this thing...
...a buzz cut.
Also looking at the concept art seen in the back of one shot,
Doesn't that one piece look somewhat like the one of the force priestesses from the TCW arc my profile pic comes from.
A bit of a stretch but the movie is The Force Awakens.
All I know is I see Bossk up there!
And what looks to be a psychotic bush baby with sharp fangs.
The one in the upper left corner reminds me of a creature in one McQuarrie painting...

Weren't they using black and white photos or something?
You're probably right. But the silver go go boots on the action figure were pure imagination. ;)

It's a bit fishy that link if you ask me...
That's awesome. I hope they do get in contact with him. Heck, they could even squeeze in a cameo for Rebels while they're at it.
They got Tom Kane to do Ackbar for the upcoming Battlefront reboot. I'm a fan of Kane's work in general but his Ackbar just sounds like Yularen.
An excerpt from that Aftermath book (that's supposed to start to link Jedi to Awakens) was released. http://www.ew.com/article/2015/07/16/star-wars-exclusive-actual-opening-aftermath-reveals-tragic-violent-uprising
Aside from being poorly written, it's interesting that they decide to kick off the film with a scene from SE Jedi. Somewhat satisfying, at least, to see the dumb little parade that Lucas added goes to shit pretty much the moment that shot ends, though.
I don't think I'll really be brought in by this piece of drama. But I'll probably read the novel for more glimpses of the post Jedi empire, as it's now being imagined, trying to hold itself together.
