Any speculation on who got the lightsaber Luke lost at Cloud City and how they got it?
I find it hard to believe that it survived... Either it fell down to the bottom of that shaft and smashed, or went out a vent like Luke and fell to Bespin... and smashed.

Luke's hand became sentient, dropped off the lightsaber to some scary dude, traveled back (or forward?!) in time, and decided to star in a hit TV show.

Oh, !@#$%^&*!

And went into a toilet in a popular video game series.

The saber (and hand) didn't have to fall down the same shafts Luke did. It looks like the massive air currents affect Luke's fall in ESB, so the saber could end up elsewhere and caught on something.

When it was eventually found, and by whom is anyone's guess. It could have been an Ugnaught or a maintenance guy, who kept it as a curio until someone Force sensitive showed up.

The idea is hardly new: in The Last Command, the clone of Luke was grown from the chopped hand, and used Luke's first lightsaber.

Luke's hand was said to be one of the Emperor's prized specimens held at the Wayland facility.  Presumably it and the lightsaber were retrieved from Bespin so that Palpatine could make an evil clone version of Luke if he failed to turn the real one to the dark side.

Hmm... I got the idea that all those air shafts end up leading outside.
I suppose it could have caught on something, but the idea of someone finding it seems very unlikely to me. Not sure I can buy into it, but we will see...
I just hope the rumors of the movie opening with Lukes hand still clutching the saber handle and floating through space are false!

You think it's bad, how do you think Yutani felt about it?

Nah I'm fine here.

On topic, I think 12-15 year old me would have loved to have seen Fett survive and grown up to be a gruff old Max von Sydow, but upon coming back to the trilogy in the last couple years, he's not much of a character to me. He has a great look, and Jason Wingreen's voice was perfect, but he's not a character in the same way that Luke, Leia, Vader or even Chewie was. He was a means to an end, a method of tracking down Han and bringing him to Jabba. Like, based on his scant lines in Empire, all we know about him is that:

-he's in it for the money

-Han is no good to him dead

And then he dies early on in Jedi. Now, you could easily argue that Lucas and co. failed to develop him, but he's only effective being cool and mysterious. I'm already apprehensive about the thought of Abrams and co. bringing back dead characters (though I doubt they'll do it), but could von Sydow do for the character without erasing all the enigma that made Fett cool to kids? He'd give a hell of a performance, but it wouldn't be the same character--or non-character.

The non-character was obliterated in AOTC. We need something like Von Sydow to restore the character's dignity.

Robot Chicken did a lot towards making Fett seem cool to me again. ;)

I think he was glad they left him out of it.

What made Boba Fett cool when I was a little kid was what we didn't know about him. It brought a little mystery to the character. It's like Darth Vader before 1999. I'm not saying Boba Fett couldn't be brought back as cool, but I feel the Star Wars universe needs to be expand, not revisit old characters because we can't think of anything new. I want to see new alien worlds with characters and creatures I've never seen before. Let's see some planets that don't look like environments found on earth. You can pay homage to classic Star Wars without copying and pasting every idea and element from the past.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

The problem with truly Alien environments is that they tend to require spacesuits, which is something we've not seen much of in the Star Wars universe.

Colors notwithstanding, even an mostly inhospitable place like Mars looks like some arid climates at home.

I think by alien he just means different to what we have. He didn't mean a non-breathable atmosphere. E.g. with alien flora and fauna as with Felucia in ROTS (though preferably not the CG colour fest that was)

Felucia kind of looks like Pandora from Avatar now.

The only (non trooper) stand out space suit I remember seeing in Star Wars was on this guy below. And I remember the first time I saw "Star Wars" back in 1977, thinking how he looked like something out of a low budget 1950's science fiction film.

Actually, that's a British made high altitude pressure suit that first appeared in Ray Harryhausen's First Men in The Moon in the early 60's.

Later Dr. Who...

And finally the second coolest bounty hunter in ESB...

There are a couple other spacesuits in the cantina scene, but I can't find pics of them at the moment.

Of course, we briefly saw Stormtroopers outside on the Death Star with backpacks and air hoses...

I presume TIE pilots could survive in a vacuum, but they seldom get the change to eject. ;)

^I knew he was supposed to be the same type of alien, but the same exact actor? That's cromulent beyond words.

JEDIT: Now I see why they kept him in shadow in SW; that makeup would have looked tremendously fake under direct lighting.
