Hey guys, I have not been here in a while and as you can imagine, I have missed quite a bit. What is the status of the fan edit as of now?
Progress continues, it will be released when it's done. ;-)

Adywan is finishing up on video editing, then he's gonna move onto audio. He's hoping to have it released by the end of this year (hope being the key word)

I had a great visual in my mind of the scene with Artoo and Luke in the camp scene before they meet yoda. Ady could add a bunch of bugs swarming around that red/yellow glowing power generator Luke plugs artoo into for power.

That's a great idea! Wouldn't be hard to do and would really enhance the environment.

Not really that hard, well apart from designing all the bugs, building the Cg models and texturing then the rigging and animating of each creature separately (just think how many times that needs to be done with a load of bugs without AI software)

When people are already complaining that there are creatures from our world on dagobah already? Adding more real life ones would start the ultimate shit storm, (well that and the fact that i'm going to kill off Lando of course)

Say WHA?!?!? 0_0

He isn't black he is brown. The black guy already dies and he has a white guy inside him when he buys the big one so make of that what you will %-O

I wasn't thinking of close up shots where u can see the detail of the bugs. I was thinking more in long shots where they are little specs... Also maybe some black blurs flying around something or in front of the camera

They wouldn't need to be recognizable insects.
Just little specks illuminated by the light. This could easily be achieved by setting up a light bulb outside, waiting for some little speck-like bugs to show up, and filming them for a few seconds. Then just screen the footage in. Simple as that. There wouldn't be remotely enough detail for anybody to recognize them as "Earth" bugs.

To be honest at that scale black dots animated by open source swarm simulation code would look exactly the same.

And would be easier to do.

Lol.

Yeah the bugs idea of course shouldn't be at the top of the to-do list, but hopefully it's worthwhile enough for Ady to give it a try some time.

That is a brilliant idea Matticon, to add a few bugs occasionally flying around the lantern that's charging R2.

I think that's the best approach too, to mainly add fly-sized (or smaller) bugs flying quickly in and out of shots (and most of the time out of focus). You wouldn't be able to see them too clearly, but that's the idea. It should be randomly and also sparingly when you see them, so that it'd feel natural enough and not be distracting from any scene.

Because of their such small size, they wouldn't have to be sophisticated looking - your eyes would/should only see them as black dots, at least for the daytime shots; maybe in the darker shots, some could have a subtle neon-green glow (sort of like fire flies)?

It'd also be nice to occasionally see some creepy insects around on the ground too, but these might be best mainly in the darker areas, namely the cave sequence.

Anyhow, if attempted, these subtle additions would certainly add more "outdoor realism" to this wild, swampy environment.

Edit:

Matticon's, aalenfae's, and Bingowing's last posts beat me to the point about the bugs only needing to be indiscernible dots.

Ady is still set on killing off Lando? I understand why he wants to do it, but I was hopeful he'd reconsider :( Something as controversial as this, may it be possible to then have two versions? Lol, the "Lando dies version" and the "Lando lives version" XD (or seamless branching?) I for one am looking forward to Episode VII, and I would love to be able to watch Revisited 1-6 and then 7-9 together with minimal contradictions (I can handle the differences in 1-3, but obviously a main character dying in 6 and then reappearing in 7 is a big one).

Well Adywan's made it perfectly clear he considers the revisited saga just to be six film saga, since certain elements he intends to remove/alter in the prequels are more than likely going to be present in the sequel trilogy.

I'm fairly certain Ady said he's going to kill Lando just to watch us all bicker about it for the next 20 pages.

On a related note: Good Ady, good. Kill him. Kill him now.

Also, yeah kill Lando.

But actually make two versions.

The obvious question: is Lando bi-curious?

Not about dying.  >:)

In regards to the bugs.. yeah, that could be cool.  I agree with them being little more than spots... there is nothing saying you can't make 'em more like fireflies (the occasional slow pulse of light).
