Now it's just getting ridiculous- Obi Wan's new howl.

Well i just got a copy of The Sounds Of Star Wars book and it's very interesting. But my sheer delight turned to horror when i turned to page 276 and the chapter called "The Last Sound". Well it goes on about how they changed the howl in 2004 because GL didn't like the original sound. So there are 2 audio clips in this chapter: Obi-Wan Howl, which is the original version, RAW Yells, which is just some experimentation with no effects then the final one New Obi Howl. Now i pressed the play button and expected to hear the whistle sound that was heard in the 2004 DVD version, but now, it was far worse. It's a whole new sound and it is horrendous. It sounds like someone has done this on a home computer with a few stock effects. It doesn't even sound like it could possibly be Obi-Wan. So i guess this is what is going to eb in the new mix. If this is what we've got to look forward too then i really do fear that the mix will outdo the 2004 version as being the worse ever Star Wars IV mix.

Here is the sound if you want to hear it:

And no, this isn't fake. Anyone who has the "sounds" book will verify this.

Well, there goes any hope of the BD release being half decent.

It seems like it has come to the point where it's just changing and screwing with the movies to see how many fans still buy them.

Incredibly pointless and unsurprisingly badly done as most of his changes are.

I'm not gonna lie, that's trippy as shit... but yeah, no way one person could do that - then again I never liked any versions of the howl... including the original. Just my opinion though.

Um, that's a joke.  Right?  Please be kidding.

I actually haven't been this worried since the "rumor" of Hadyen Christensen's head being pasted into Return of the Jedi.  There was no way George would do anything that ridiculous.  That bad photo of Hayden with Alec Guinness which was leaked had to have been photoshopped.

LOL is this for real?

"WooooOOOOoooo [bad echo effect] wooaAHHHHH"

What the hell? That's one of the most ridicilous sounds I've ever heard. Well, I wasn't going to watch the crappy versions anyway.

unfortunately it's 100% real. here's what it says about the new sound:

An interim crow sounds was first tried before Burtt arrived and recorded Wood and Acord in the parking lot behind the tech building. " He sourced it from Dave and me yelling", Wood says. "We screamed and screamed. I was trying to model mine off this terrible cheesy element that i love from a Disneyland ride, The Haunted Mansion. : ah, ah, ahooooaah!"

Ultimately, Burtt blended the screams- with Acord starting the scream and Wood ending the scream. "It sounds like some kind of weird animal but coming from a human, "says Wood

Well, there is nothing to complain. It's only 3th original vision of OT from Lucas. It was always intented to be like this.

To be honest, I would not wonder if Lucas would replace Alec Guiness with Jar Jar Binks.

I certainly never had any problem with it.

How many things has Lucas "fixed" to his original vision, then changed again to his original vision?

Well, George is a big fan of old Rock 'n' Roll isn't he?? By 2040 maybe he'll have Obi-Wan sing Tutti Frutti to scare the Sandpeople. It would make almost as much sense as this "scream" thing.

I did.  I never had any problem with it whatsoever, and to this day don't know why George insists on changing it every damn time.

It worked.  It wouldn't be on my top 10 of favorite sound effects, but it wasn't bad.

Someone has to replace "Nooooooooooooooooooooooo!" with this for a laugh.

I can't stop listening to it.

This will be my new ringtone. What kind of drugs is Ben Burtt using ?

Wow, that's...pretty corny.  That, supposedly coming out of Ben Kenobi's mouth, is just wrong.

I must admit, I actually never thought the original howl worked all that well.  To me, it sounded too much like it came from the Tusken Raiders; it was too similar to their noises.  The howl was on The Story Of Star Wars LP too (which I listened to constantly), and the narration there didn't explain that it was Ben Kenobi making it, so again it seemed like it was the Tusken Raiders.

According to the novel (IIRC) it was supposed to be a Krayt Dragon call, and that's why the Sandpeople ran away.  In my mind it should have sounded a little more Krayt Dragon-like, and less Tusken-like.

But it was an extremely minor quibble, and I got used to it and accepted it.  This new howl is a dreadful mistake.

What i'm preying is that this is actually the 2004 howl before being run through the synthesiser, but it's strange its called New Obi Howl and the one prior to it was the raw screams done by Wood & Acord so surely it should have been the final product? But then again they have made a bit of a mistake in the book. There is one sound which is supposed to be the X-wings launching from Yavin, but its the Millennium Falcon
