The Hobbit (70s animated Rankin/Bass feature) (Released)

 (Edited)

Just wanted to let everyone here know that I found someone who works for the archives of Rankin/Bass to send me a copy of the original soundtrack to The Hobbit and that i’ve subsequently put it up on Demonoid.

Its a great folky kinda record and I figured someone here would love to have it.

Cool. I have an affection for it. I don't think we're supposed to link directly to torrents in the forum, however.

4. No direct links to media downloads of copyrighted materials (VOBs, WMV, QuickTime, torrent files, NZB files, ED2K links, etc.) with the exception of short clips to demonstrate quality or content. No direct links to pages containing such files

Neat.

Yeah no direct links to torrents.

Thread moved from off topic forum to this forum where it is of more interest - this is a valid preservation, as I don't think this has ever been released on CD.

Any more details, i.e. is this sampled from the vinyl or an archived magnetic master?

(Also I think this was '70s not '60s?)

Eh, I guess thats part of the reason I don't post here often is that its knda strict around here about the rules, whereas everywhere else I go I never think twice about that kinda thing..

Anyhow, yes the film was indeed made in the 70s not 60s, other than that this recording has been taken from two songs off a LP and the rest have come from a archive master. So this is pretty much the best thats going to probably ever be avalible sadly. Also included are some bonus songs from other features of Rankin/Bass, such as Burl Ives doing 'Silver & Gold' and that kinda thing.

Alot of people have asked about the soundtrack to the Return of the King, but I don't have any idea about obtaining that one.

That sounds great! I remember that old cartoon, I didn't even know an LP existed. Although I do have one question, Didn't Warner Bros. buy "The Hobbit" from Rankin/Bass?

Wouldn't the same source from Rankin/Bass have access to the Return of the King master material as well? Just a thought...

Excellent find, by the way! I spent many hours listening to the double-LP boxed set for this film that I had, and all the songs on it.

I'm still looking for the animated version of Return of The King. Found it on a torret site, but it's a Nintendo video format (DGS or sometihng, don't remember it and can't check it out because I'm at work right now) that I can't play on a regular PC. Really annoying.

Love to see that animated Return Of The King.

you can buy the animated return of the king in the store why would you want to steal from the creators downloading a torrent since that way they get no royalties.

I still believe torrents should be for only things as preservations, fan edits or things not officially available.

you can get all three animated hobbit films in a warner box set for like 40 bucks or something. it includes bakshi's film of lord of the rings, the hobbit by rankinbass and return of the king by same people.

That being the case they are all bare bones and even single layer dvd except for the dl of lord of the rings which is also widescreen. none of them are remastered in any way but they do look better on dvd than they did on vhs, also they are only in mono sound and no stereo versions.

it is very dissapointing to say the least that they could not get ralph bakshi to do a commentary on his lotr, or have peter s. beagle do one as well. they could of had a isolated score of the remastered soundtrack, and tack on some of the deleted scenes and or storyboards that are in mr bakshi's posession. which he has been selling on ebay so now they are scattered all over the world.

Because all the shops where I live don't have it or tell me that they can't get it for me, because it's hard to get... I don't know if this title is so easy to get in the USA, but here in the Netherlands, it's hard to get (at least where I live). So that's why I took a look on torrent and found a 300 mb version of it in DGP video format (Nintendo Dreamcast format). I still can't play it.

yeah well you may be out of luck there since the pal uk version seems to be out of print but the us version is readily available.

i was'nt aware that you lived in the netherlands it must be impossible to find some dvd titles out there?

i'm broke know but when i had money and wanted something not readily available in my region the unites states i went to ebay and imported the dvd , and if it was an anime or asian title i used yesasia.com.

the title that seems to be impossible to find anywhere on dvd or vhs is tolkien an authorized film portrait i cannot find this anywhere.

Hoichi, I've been after this music in high quality for years.

Thanx, so much!

Well that sucks!

Why is it whenever someone shows up I'm not around to claim it? Noticed there's no seeders for that now.

If anyone out here has this and can PM me to send it my way personally, please do, I want this too.
Yours truly,
Chris Sobieniak

Looks like I counted my chicken before it hatched!

The best solution would be to upload it to http://massmirror.com That link will not die.

Thanx to anybody who can help.

Nice if someone can do it for me too!

Basically it uploads your files to a number of hosting services including megaupload, rapidshare & zshare. When you go to download you choose which of these you wish to use. But, if any of those providers stop hosting the file, MassMirror will reupload it again. So you only need the MassMirror link to share with others. The MassMirror link itself will not die.

I don't use Bit Torrent much so it's easier for me to just send a link. Anyone else should feel free though.
