Powerpost is fairly simple. This appears to be a good tutorial.

dark_jedi, tell me about this copy of Return Of The Ewok. Is this just simply ripped from the ocpmovie release, or is it something different? You can tell by the fact that most of our version is in pseudo-widescreen due to poor projection on the part of the original presentation. Also, we have title and credits added by ocpmovie.

It would be very interesting if this was a different copy. I've never seen another complete copy of ROTE outside of ours.

--SKot

EDIT: Edited with regards to the Hyperspace copy of ROTE, which was only a 5 minute long excerpt.

Projects:
Return Of The Ewok and Other Short Films (with OCPmovie) [COMPLETED]
Preserving the…cringe…Star Wars Holiday Special [COMPLETED]
The Star Wars TV Commercials Project [DORMANT]
Felix the Cat 1919-1930 early film shorts preservation [ONGOING]
Lights Out! (lost TV anthology shows) [ONGOING]
Iznogoud (1995 animated series) English audio preservation [ONGOING]

Perhaps it's the version that was on Hyperspace? Y'know, the one that was only a few minutes of highlights? Regardless it would be interestng to know.

OK. I've had pretty decent luck figuring out the newsgroups thing, thanks to a few wonderful OT.com members and some tutorials, but I'm having no luck with this problem. I grabbed the 97 ANH SE DL, and when I tried to unpack it, I got the following errors:
! F:\newsgroups\a.b.starwars\sw anh se dl\SWarsIV_SE_DLayer_Flunk.part084.rar: Packed data CRC failed in SWarsIV_SE_DLayer_Flunk.img. The volume is corrupt
! F:\newsgroups\a.b.starwars\sw anh se dl\SWarsIV_SE_DLayer_Flunk.part086.rar: Packed data CRC failed in SWarsIV_SE_DLayer_Flunk.img. The volume is corrupt
! F:\newsgroups\a.b.starwars\sw anh se dl\SWarsIV_SE_DLayer_Flunk.part138.rar: Packed data CRC failed in SWarsIV_SE_DLayer_Flunk.img. The volume is corrupt
! F:\newsgroups\a.b.starwars\sw anh se dl\SWarsIV_SE_DLayer_Flunk.part143.rar: CRC failed in SWarsIV_SE_DLayer_Flunk.img. The file is corrupt

I've tried grabbing what I thought were the right headers to rebuild this, but have had no luck. Can someone please help a newsgroup-challenged padawan?

If there are par2 files, grab the first one and run it against what you've downloaded. That'll tell you how many more blocks you need in total to repair it. Then just get the required number of blocks (par1+something, par2+something). The "something" is the number of blocks that file will repair. That way you don't have to grab all the par2 files if you only need 1 block.

Once you've repaired it, you should be able to extract the files without any errors. I use QuickPar for checking par and par2 files against rars.

@trickbaxter

Without trying to derail this thread--you will want to learn about PAR2 files sooner or later--but before you spend too much time on the Flunk release you might like to check out the screenshots I've posted in this thread.

Might be useful for de-SE projects, but it's not my first choice for standalone viewing.

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

DVD-ROM content ("Extra" folder) won't fit if you use the pre-set layer break.

Help Request - a.b.x - Best Fanfilms need some of the following : (r01, r04, r06, r15, r19, r20, r29, r41, r47, r51, r52, r54, r56, first par)
I've got the rest of the par2's so hopefully a few of those segments will push me over the edge so that the par2s can recover the rest.
If you can help: YSI, Megaupload, or post to a.b.x or a.b.sw.
Thanks in advance - (Hopefully i'm not too late to this party)

Have Citizen's NTSC single-layer discs been posted to a.b.sw recently?

I've gone on IRC before, and gods know if I'm just that forgetful, but....how do you get to a.sw.b? I'm using ICQ to at least get on, if not download, and I'm trying to connect to Usenet, then to #alt.starwars.binaries, and it tells me it can't resolve. Heeeeelp.
Something witty.

This may be stating the obvious, but:
make sure you're using a Usenet client (e.g. GrabIt) and not an IRC or ICQ client.
