Uncorrected mistakes or unfixed issues of the 2019 (Maclunkey) Original Trilogy release?

As there are two previous threads for talking about the unfixed issues & uncorrected mistakes of the 2004 & 2011 OT releases:

You’d think they’d clean this up - the unfixed issues of the 2004 OT SE DVD release - by Stakiller

What HASN’T changed on the 2011 OT SE Blu-ray release – the uncorrected mistakes - by Gavin

I thought it may be worth having a thread for the 2019 Special Edition version of the Original Trilogy as well.

What errors or mistakes still remain in this latest release of the Original Trilogy that are in need of fixing? Or improving upon?

I know this has been discussed elsewhere, though I feel it is worth highlighting in this thread too (and for the 2011 and 2019 ‘what have they still not fixed?’ threads):

Never forget that the Death Star has been in clear site of Yavin IV from the beginning of the battle since 1997 and this is how the Special Edition should have ended. https://www.wired.com/story/put-original-star-wars-on-disney-plus/’ - https://twitter.com/StarWarsVisComp/status/1279501550575136771

A fairly important one, Gonk 😃

I wonder what the people at Lucasfilm think when being asked about that one…

Maybe they’ll fix it next time for the 2026 Special Edition releases?

The FE Renegades thread; from the people who post ‘go kill yourself’, ‘fuck you’, ‘let’s throw abuse’, and more at OT staff & members. Four years on and still throwing accusations, slurs and abuse at the OT & anyone outside their Salacious Crumb filled clique. + FE Discord “to vent” more at the OT. Wook’s take.

They did not go back before they did the DNR pass used for the 3D reissue. Leaving to too smooth an image and very little fine detail. The audio mix on Star Wars is poor due to the master tapes. Some of the dialogue is of extremely poor quality. The mix varies from very good to not so good. Which wasn’t a problem for the earlier mixes before Matthew Wood remixed the film. No such problem on Empire or Jedi as far as i could tell.

I’m not exactly sure if it’s relevant to the thread, but something that’s been unfixed since 77: The laser blasts and lightsabers don’t mesh with the rest of the saga, as well as the noticeable jumpcuts and lack of startup for lightsabers, as well as the saber wobbling all about in one scene during Luke’s training aboard the Falcon during the Disturbance in the Force scene (It even appears to be misaligned with the handle).

This isn’t an “uncorrected mistakes or unfixed issue”, but it is a mistake and issue for the quality of image on the 2019 editions to be so lacking in detail:

@adywan you did you use sharpening tools just wondering Someone said this shot looked overly sharpened. It was on a discord

Well that shot is from 2 different sources, as was fully explained in the original post on this site where i posted that image. No sharpening was done. It was to show how much detail has been scrubbed from the 2020 blu-ray, which is the image on the left, compared to the detail in the 2011 Blu-Rays, which is the image on the right. The panels on the droid in the 2020 blu-rays have been almost scrubbed away including the weathering.

There are more examples in adywan’s “Star Wars: Episode IV Revisited Edition” thread, on page 490:

That is poor. Who signed off on that? I hope they correct or address that in their next release, or in an update on Disney+

Did they fix the Return of the Jedi style stormtrooper helmets appearing in the Special Edition releases of Star Wars (ANH) for the 2019 SE version?

I saw someone on twitter last week explaining that stormtrooper helmets in Return of the Jedi are different to those used in Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back. For some reason when Lucasfilm did the Special Editions in 1997 for all 3 OT films they used Return of the Jedi stormtrooper helmets by mistake.

It is only a small nitpick, but is yet another mistake introduced by the Special Editions.

I can’t find the twitter thread now, but I will look for it later.

The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.

^ I found it!

From Pablo Hidalgo:

So the 2019 Special Edition still has the Return of the Jedi stormtrooper helmets in Star Wars: ANH.

There is also this website with lots of information and many images for this subject:

Is that the same 1997 dewback or am I imagining things?

Weird… the sky used to be really blue as well, so I think it’s just a contrast thing rather than any extra CGI detail.

I wish this below was merely a contrast thing; this mistake is still in the 2019 Special Edition too:

The original Yuzzum from the unaltered cuts is not impressed with the Special Edition replacement either!:

^ and also an “uncorrected mistake” still in the 2019 release! 😉

Oh jeez you know I forgot that change was even a thing. What is wrong with George?

I am surprised that in all the releases no attempt was made to correct the brief shots in the Obi-Wan/Vader duel where the blade colors switch.
