I know the discussion of restoring Threepio’s Prequel memories has been brought up. Not entirely sure if it’s something of interest. Didn’t someone do sample clips of it?

I know it wouldn’t be possible for only his prequel memories to be restored because in the later scene he recognizes Luke’s X-wing and realizes that doesn’t make much sense. So if we were to include his prequel memories getting restored it would have to be along with everything else. I suppose that also begs the question of why R2 didn’t give him those memories sooner over the past 50 years.

I suppose. I know that someone did a mockup of having Threepio mention Anakin or Padmé

If you remember at the end of Revenge of the Sith/Labyrinth of Evil, Bail Organa tells his commanding officer to wipe the protocol droids memory, they never mention R2 restoring C3PO’s memory until The Rise of Skywalker.

It’s alright. Just wondering if there is dialogue that can be used to imply this.

By the way, I believe someone did a mock-up of the Falcon making the jump out of hyperspace by putting the shot of Poe saying “T minus 5” before you see the ship jump out. There was VFX done in the shot of Poe to show hyperspace outside the cockpit windows.

Great work either way.

By far best one I’ve heard, as great as it would be, I don’t think ‘Birth’ is worth it with how it sounds. It’s better to just eliminate ‘death’ on It’s own.

I was rewatching some clips from V1, and something stood out to me right at the end - when it goes from Rey’s Theme to the End Credit fanfare, it’s like there’s an extra note in there or something? So rather than hitting the end credits immediately, it’s almost like it hiccups a wee bit? Am I imagining it?

This is the end of the Force theme that goes all the way over the start of the credits theme for a bar or so, crossfading it in harder just makes the fade sound strange and unnatural. Spent a loooong time trying to get it passable. Am more than happy for someone to have another go, though!

Yeah, that was me. I sent Hal the finished link months ago.

And while I appreciate the work, I feel the scene as it is in V1 works better in the order it is. Just two bordering establishing shots of the Falcon.

And, if anything, I’d prefer to imply 3PO never regains his memory other than R2 verbally bringing him up to speed. I don’t think invoking prequel memories would be advisable or possible to pull off.

Agreed wholeheartedly. Leaving his memories “permanently” wiped would give his arc at least some impact.

In that case, have you considered cutting the memory restoration scene from V2?

Something else I was thinking about: Does anyone else think it’s kind of weird when Rey is telling Leia that they have exactly one chance of saving the galaxy before everything is destroyed, and Leia’s response is essentially, “…Nah”? I wonder if there would be some way of supplying Leia with some clarifying dialogue (“Once you’re training is finished…” “You’re not ready for this yet…”). Either that, or just cut straight from “Find Exegol. Find the Emperor.” to Leia looking up, to Rey refueling the Falcon.

Why on earth would Leia reject the one potential chance they have? Why does Rey care about Leia’s “blessing”? If Leia has a legitimate reason for rejecting the plan, why doesn’t she argue the point? (The answer for all of this is that “Disney had a shot of Carrie Fisher saying ‘No,’ and wrote this entire, stupid exchange to capitalize on that shot.”)

To me 3PO recovering his memory is the only thing that makes that whole side quest tolerable, otherwise it would just be insulting to see a legacy character ‘die’ to a dumb mcguffin bantha chase, and then have their death treated as a joke for the rest of the film.

Doesn’t the impact come from the initial trauma/reaction from the audience of seeing 3PO’s memories get wiped?

Yes please. The reason why she doesn’t want her to leave has been removed in this edit (she knows Rey is a Palpatine).

I’ve already looked extensively through the available dialogue and the only thing there is is “Too long…” before Rey interrupts. Other than that, I think this scene could use a trim or two.

That’s a good observation, about that scene playing into Leia somehow knowing Rey’s parentage. I’m not sure removing it would help the film’s overly fast pacing, though, as you’d have to smash from “We must find Exegol” to the Falcon’s fuel thing being uncoupled in closeup.

That little scene does establish that Rey is following Luke’s journal which is important to understand.

Even without the idea that Leia “knows,” the scene shows Leia’s misgivings about the darkness and/or inexperience that Rey senses within herself and fears.

And while I think the idea from DOTF of R2 recounting their adventures to a ‘clean install’ 3PO would have been much preferred to what we got, I don’t feel attempting to recreate or imply this with what we have available would be better than leaving it alone.

I feel like the point is that Rey doesn’t feel worthy. She’s always felt this way. She even hands back the saber to Leia, earlier in the movie directly after getting the Force visions.

They’re clearly talking about the entire arc, not a single moment.

(I think) The point is that Rey doesn’t feel worthy. (In my subjective opinion) she’s always felt this way. She even hands back the saber to Leia, earlier in the movie directly after getting the Force visions.

That’s what I was referring to here. The weight of any emotional moment in anything comes from the trauma of seeing it unfold. Moments like these in anything serve solely to traumatize the characters and the audience. If anything, I think it reinforces the trauma from seeing his memories get erased. His memories still got erased.

It would be pointless if the rest of the movie was non-canon.

Also I feel like that’s like saying Thanos killing half of the universe is just an opinion and not an actual plot point that exists. (Note to myself, I can’t believe this is gonna turn into an objectivity vs. subjectivity argument…)
