I kinda changed my mind on that?

You’re missing his point, nobody else really seems to be making this point, or at least it’s a very rare take. You’re arguing against a fictional position. I’m not sure anyone else has made that argument except you, although I’m not gonna say you’re the only one because that’s a quick and easy way to get owned.

I’ve seen that be used a couple of times on Reddit.

That I initially agreed with those specific Redditors? (It was on Krayt)

You are approaching the internet like a giant hivemind with no regard for how members here actually feel, it’s like you were chilling in the city and now this is a neighborhood where people have a basic familiarity with each other and their views on the movies. There are plenty of threads for discussion and you’re welcome to add your two cents where it’s more relevant, instead of imposing your opinion onto the rest of the board, you’ve even copied and pasted some things you’ve written across multiple threads within the same day, it’s just not that big around here, and it reads dismissive to the rest of the community, at worst like you’re talking down to them.

I mean, other people aside from myself would start the discussion in the first place, even if I didn’t exist.

It’s called a “general consensus”.

I don’t get why people believe Palpatine’s return had no set up. It’s a MASSIVE galaxy, so of course it isn’t surprising that he’s still out there. Same with Snoke in TFA.

I really liked that J.J. brought back Palpatine in The Rise of Skywalker, and I thought it was an absolutely necessary thing to do.

By bringing him back, it ties all nine Skywalker saga movies together as one cohesive, overarching story and makes The Rise of Skywalker feel like an actual series finale to the saga, it feels like there really is one overarching villain for the saga rather than just killing him off for good in Return of the Jedi and then having Kylo Ren be the villain in the last trilogy.

He is so important to the saga, and had he not been included as the final villain of the trilogy, and, by extension, the saga, then it would’ve felt like something was missing. We have more of an established connection with him over the first six films than with Kylo Ren or Snoke or Plagueis or the Yuuzhan Vong from Legends or Maul.

For once I agree with you. No one else agrees with me on this.

I always figured Palpatine was the one pulling the strings when i saw Force Awakens and they had that ridiculous fade in of the hologram of Snoke being imposing and giant.
I said this is Wizard of Oz stuff that Palpatine was behind the curtain.

But then i didn’t think anything further of it when he was cut in half and discarded like the cast off knockoff darksider non Sith/ fake Palpatine he always was. So when he was just a stupid puppet clone in a vat in ROS i laughed.

I chuckled even harder when i realized Kylo’s vision of speaking to Vader were just visions given to him by the Emperor, so obvious Anakin was redeemed Vader doesn’t exist. But this kid held onto the concept of Vader and he wanted to finish what he started. And Luke is afraid he’ll become another Vader so he exiled himself and refuses to pick up a lightsaber again and takes the barash vow. And Ben lets himself be corrupted by anger and resentment over having imperfect but loving parents, when many of the galaxy’s children are orphans.

He is contemptible and evil for no reason. Only because the plot requires it. The worst part he killed his father over a lie. A trick of a Sith Lord. And somehow Leia and Luke never mentioned Anakin’s redemption and somehow Hayden Anakin never appeared to him as a force ghost to set him straight. Its plenty convenient.

The reason I actually like Anakin the ghost not appearing to Kylo is because the ST is perhaps accidentally in line with the theory that Force Ghosts only appear to those who knew the person in life.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Palpatine’s return would’ve worked better if it had any foreshadowing or logical buildup in either TFA or TLJ.

Since all 3 sequel movies basically aren’t connected to the previous, none of the revelations or plot swerves flow organically.

Regardless of whether you love or hate Rian, TLJ was the speedbump that threw off any narrative flow throughout the trilogy. So, really, whatever ROS came up with, Palp or no Palp, would not have fit.

Palpatine’s theme plays in TLJ. It would have been easy to dovetail a third movie into what came before, in all kinds of ways. But since the writing of TROS is so atrocious the results speak for themselves.

I didn’t think it was the case but I certainly hoped it was. In retrospect, if we can find a way to work around his physical presence aboard the Supremacy, this could be an interesting direction to take a fanedit in.

I’m not much of a fan of TROS. Yes, some great ideas and concepts are there, but the execution of them left much to be desired for me.

This article has some fantastic artwork from the film:

The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.

The art design was never the problem. Nor were the effects. Or the music, or the editing. Or the actors/actresses. It was the screenplay.

The Sequel trilogy did everything right except for the story, and the handling of the legacy characters. They did a better job on virtually everything and better than the prequels except for worldizing and the lore, and the characters. But they had an unlimited budget practically and all the years of advancement of technology the prequels and originals afforded them. and they couldn’t top Return of the Jedi.

They had a vast canvas and could have done almost anything post ROTJ, but they remade the OT instead. Or inverted/subverted it in places and said they were clever and original.

I agree with most of that, especially the Return Of The Jedi comparison!

Concept art, sketches and doodles for any Star Wars release is cool, and always good to see more of it see the light of day. That John McCoy is a talented guy. Beautiful artwork on display in that link.

“The other Sequels were the result of an over-anxious press. The original intention was to make three [films], and that was really the end of it. It was not until 10 years after the first [film] that I thought of doing a back story.” - George Lucas, speaking at the Premiere of ROTS in 2005
