That’s really weird. I’ve never heard of that before. I don’t recall Rinzler’s book mentioning such a scene at all. What is the source on that, I wonder?

It’s randomly added to the map of Tatooine in The Complete Locations for some reason. There’s a bunch of lines added to show their journey, and in between the Sandcrawler and Mos Eisley they added that. I can’t see any other source.

That is disappointing, but hardly unexpected. There is but one recourse for such egregious misinformation.

A question about the Jedi’s vast abilities.

Jedi can read minds, levitate stuff, Force people and things, jump super high, see glimpses of the future, and slice through anything with their lightsaber.

In a one-on-one fight, how is anybody even a match for them, who is not a Sith?
They can deflect laser blasts, cut through regular melee weapons like nothing, and if they want, just push people out the way with their minds.

It worked out great in the OT, Luke was just beginning to learn the ways of the Force, so there was plenty of challenges for him to face.

But in Obi-Wan’s time, or even Qui-Gon Jinn’s, how was there any real challenge for a Jedi, outside of fellow Force users, like Sith Lords? Their were numerous Jedi back then and they were all well trained and adept witht he Force, and not late bloomers like Luke.

It just seems like with all their abilities, any fights they had would be pretty boring. I mean, apparently the Sith had been extinct for a long time until Darth Maul showed up.

Stuff like this is why I’ve come to lament the introduction of telekinesis and other physical powers to the Force.

For me, yeah and no.
Yeah, because, damn, they’re like Dr. Manhattan. Where’s the challenge?
And no, because the telekinesis is what made them more than just space knights. Yoda being able to lift Luke’s star ship-great moment.

Maybe if they didn’t make using the Force for telekinesis so easy later on.
Luke needs to concentrate a lot to get his lightsaber out of the snow. Yoda needed to close his eyes and focus intently to lift the x-wing out of the swamp.

But later on, it’s like they don’t even need to focus hard to use it. They Force-push droids out the way, Force pull their lightsaber out their holster because their to lazy to use their arm, Force-floating fruit to impress girls.
Even in Empire Strikes Back, Luke did some kind of super speed jump that still looks weird. ROTJ, Vader can read Luke’s mind.
It’s like, Holy Crap, what can they not do. I mean, you can’t even keep secrets from them. They’ll just read your mind?

I think a good middle ground would’ve been to make telekinesis a rare ability only some extremely Force-attuned individuals can harness. If, for example, Anakin had been one of the only Jedi shown with that ability in the PT, it would’ve gone a long way towards making him as special as Lucas intended.

Is there a thread on here that chronicles any articles (online links or magazine scans) that are behind the site here / the release of the unaltered theatrical version of the Original Trilogy?

I’m having a slow day - I thought there was one? But can’t find it now…

Edit - I found an old one below, but it is way out of date. Surely there is a more up to date thread somewhere?

Original Trilogy.com in the Press - from 2005

The FE Renegades thread; from the people who post ‘go kill yourself’, ‘fuck you’, ‘let’s throw abuse’, and more at OT staff & members. Four years on and still throwing accusations, slurs and abuse at the OT & anyone outside their Salacious Crumb filled clique. + FE Discord “to vent” more at the OT. Wook’s take.

This isn’t a super indepth question, but in TCW S2 episode “The Mandalore Plot” Tor Vizla said the Mandalorian’s took the darksaber from the Jedi during the Mandalorian/Jedi wars.

I was wondering then if it would make sense for Canderous Ordo to have the darksaber in KotOR once he’s become Mandalore?

Not so much a Question but more of an Enquiry, Has anyone noticed that in The Phantom Menace when Anakin takes Qui-Gon, Padame, R2 and Jar Jar to his home, when he shows Padame 3po as R2 enters the room to the *left on the shelves there is a figurine of Maz Kanata. I only noticed this the other day when re-watching Hal’s Cloak of Deception and was wondering if anyone else had noticed this.
I would post an image of it but have no Idea how to, in Cloak of Deception you see it at 26:27.

Han: Hey Lando! You kept your promise, right? Not a scratch?
Lando: Well, what’s left of her isn’t scratched. All the scratched parts got knocked off along the way.
Han (exasperated): Knocked off?!

Thus proof the sequel trilogy was being planned out all the way back in 1999 😉

This looks like the thread to ask. Does anyone remember the story about the Stardust Hotel during the making of Return of the Jedi and how Anthony Daniels was given the nickname of Stardust by a member of the crew on the first film? I can’t seem to find anything about it anymore with how searches are now overpopulated with Jyn and Rogue One. I’ve always seen that callback as a homage to that particular story. I believe also Anthony Daniels talks about it in the commentary of Return of the Jedi but it’s been awhile since I’ve listened to it while watching the film.

That’s it. Thank you very much. I couldn’t remember who bestowed the nickname. Hearing it was Robert Watts brings warm feelings to my heart. Haha

I wonder if this is the out of universe reason why Jyn’s nickname is Stardust. It wouldn’t surprise me but I don’t believe it’s been said one way or the other.

I guess I’ll put this here, since although it’s about a line of dialogue in Star Wars (1977), it’s more about decisions made in The Star Wars Holiday Special and/or Revenge of the Sith.

All Wookiees other than Chewbacca should have been depicted with their fur kept trimmed short. Otherwise, Leia’s “walking carpet” line makes her a terrible racist.

1977 Star Wars costume

I stumbled across this image here and ignoring the weird assertion that this is responding to (Of course women grew up on Star Wars), I was curious: would this costume have required a viewer with non-insider knowledge to fabricate it out of memory? It would certainly be possible to sit in the theater (perhaps a drive-in) with a sketchbook and take notes, but I imagine that there would have been promotional materials of the pilots such as lobby cards, magazine photos, and newspaper articles.

This is the only poster I could find of the pilot costume, and even then I’m not sure if it was from '77.

So purely academically, is there evidence of Rebel pilot images appearing in print in 1977?

JEDIT: I found a set of oversize character portraits that were available at the time from here, one of which is of Luke in uniform, and another which contains the full uniform from the side.

Notably, however, the high-quality image of Luke is reversed so anyone working directly from that image would have to have other reference for that and the helmet.

Finally, Marvel Star Wars comic #5 has many views of the Rebel pilots, and the comic released on August 10, 1977. Obviously they are not detailed enough to work as reference for the costume in the original photo.

So my question remains: Would there have been a high-quality reference of Luke in uniform to base a costume off of, or is it more likely that she did drawings (or snapped a polaroid of the screen?)

Sketched during the movie if I recall. May or may not be a true story of course.

There’s a pretty high quality view of the X-Wing pilot suit here in this 1977 printing of the novelisation. Both front and back.

a

There must’ve been more efficant ways to find a reference for the costume. Maybe the toys, but I know how hard they were to get right after the film had come out.

I’m really leaning towards a lie for this one, it seems like a waste of time to sit through a 2 hour movie to take notes during the last 20 minutes. I mean it was the 70s though, maybe she just really liked sitting through it.

I think it is brilliant effort from the girl on her costume.

Is it correct in the 1970’s you could sit in some cinemas all day, for the price of one viewing? And people saw Star Wars many many times back then, without all the modern distractions, and modern faster pace of life.

I hope we hear the girl’s story, in her own words, on how she did this costume soon.

The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.
