I don’t see it there. Just the shortfilm.

BB-rey, if you don’t find it there and are interested in seeing it, send me a PM.

It’s in there, it’s the one with about 30,000 views.

Strange. I see it now, but it didn’t show up at all for me the other day.

The Rise of Skywalker was the last movie I saw in the theater.

TENET was the last film I saw in a cinema, I’m looking forward to a rewatch when I buy it on blu-ray or DVD. I saw the film Summerland in my local cinema before that, it’s nicely done and quite heartwarming. I went in knowing nothing about it, and I think it was best that way (maybe most films are, for that matter).

Man I miss the cinema.

Thank you both Dek Rollins and StarkillerAG for the ways to watch it! I am definitely going to give it a go soon.

“Heroes come in all sizes, and you don’t have to be a giant hero. You can be a very small hero. It’s just as important to understand that accepting self-responsibility for the things you do, having good manners, caring about other people - these are heroic acts. TCM showed THX-1138 the other day. I’m really looking forward to finally seeing it in a few days as I DVR’d it!

Don’t bother. That version is probably the Special Edition that Lucas did in 2004, adding a bunch of terrible CGI that ruins the claustrophobic feel of the original. You can find the original version on archive.org if you want to see it.

Where on the site?

Soul, it was uninspired and unoriginal and recycled the message of live life to the fullest. Not the best Pixar instalment, but not terrible either, just meh.

Star Wars has 3 eras: The eras are 1977-1983(pre Expanded Universe), (1983-2014) expanded universe, or (2014- now) Disney-bought version. Each are valid.

In memory of Andrei Tarkovsky on the thirty fourth anniversary of his passing I’ve been watching The Sacrifice. It’s a very beautiful yet deeply troubling and heartwrenching film. I highly recommend it though as Andrei always plants his films with wisdom that transcends time and space.

I watched ‘Bob Roberts’ (1992) for the first time yesterday, a mockumentary that is funny as hell but progressively more depressing because it’s still so politically relevant. Tim Robbins plays a charismatic right wing senate candidate, who’s a bit like Trump if he was younger and played guitar. I might not have bought the fanaticism of Bob Robert’s supporters if not for seeing that kind of fanaticism play out for the last 4 years. The film has a couple of boring moments, but on the whole is very under-appreciated. Great performances from Tim Robbins, Alan Rickman and Moff Gideon ahem Giancarlo Esposito.

I find that political films like this always end up preaching to the converted, so in vain hope I’d encourage any conservatives around here to check it out and give your take on it.

The film Mulan 2020 is a good story about female empowerment and the importance of loyalty, family, truth and honor. A must see.

Although of course, all of those things were just copied from the original animated movie. So you should probably just watch that instead.

Two films I saw recently I’d like to suggest. A few weeks ago, I saw the 2016 Japanese anime film Your Name, and it was one of the best things I’ve ever seen. 2 days ago, I followed it up with the 2016 Japanese anime film A Silent Voice, and it was ALSO one of the best things I’ve ever seen. While Your Name is magical realist, A Silent Voice is more down to earth and deals with all too common problems of bullying and loneliness. It’s a redemption story; you want to punch the main character at the beginning and hug him by the end. Apparently, it’s also a comfort movie to many people with social anxiety, and there’s a very creative way it depicts the isolation of the main character which resonated with me personally too.

The premise is, a boy who once bullied a deaf girl in elementary school attempts to rid himself of guilt and make things right by reaching out to her. Does A Silent Voice milk its emotional moments for all they’re worth? Yes it does. If I had to make one criticism, it would be that the mothers in the story don’t seem to have aged past 20. The deaf girl, Shoko, is sometimes almost too good a person to be believable, but I think that a struggle to make friends - for whatever reason - probably forces you into being a nicer and more humble person. Your Name and A Silent Voice are on Netflix, I recommend them both.

Yesterday I also watched Mr Smith Goes to Washington, the 1939 Frank Capra film that made Jimmy Stewart a household name. Jean Arthur and Claude Rains shine too, but Stewart is a perfect pick for the awkward and boyish Mr Smith, who is sent to the US senate as an unwitting stooge by corrupt politicians. The film is funny and tragic in turns, and a real crowd pleaser; it would get anyone excited about politics. It’s a film you can get really invested in, and root for the characters, and lines like “No, I will not yield!” which are everyday in the American senate are turned into moments of triumph that put a grin on your face. My only problem is how suddenly it ended - it built up to a climax of anticipation, then suddenly stopped. Prepare yourself for a surprise.

It was such a great film. TCM has been showing a lot of good ones lately. I also watched the original King Kong. It’s quite remarkable what they achieved with it back in the 30’s.

I’ve a fond memory of seeing North by Northwest in the cinema for the first time. (A few years ago, not 1959) The films you see in the big screen surely have a bigger impact on you. So many iconic scenes! Needs a rewatch I think.

Haha, definitely! So many iconic scenes indeed. I especially liked the quieter moments when they were on the train together and he was hiding. Such subtle humour!

I’m also glad you enjoyed Your Name. It’s really good. I need to watch it again I think though to fully get it. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington I only vaguely remember seeing it when in school. I’d be very curious to how it goes now. I’ll definitely have to check out A Silent Voice. I really want to get more into anime. I’ve only ever watched Pokemon and a couple of the more commercially popular franchises.

I finally saw Tenet. I liked the film and i still was confused as hell as to what was going on.

The time travel and moving backwards made no sense.

Haven’t seen your name yet. I did see Weathering with you. It was good but the anti environmentalist anti Miyazaki theme was kind of off. Maybe i just didn’t get it.

Clive Barker’s “Nightbreed” (1990).

Oh dear… I remember seeing adverts for the computer game back in the day, and wishing I was old enough to see the actual movie in the cinema. Little did I know what a steaming pile of pants it was. Dreadful in every way imaginable, although it was interesting to see David Cronenberg as an actor rather than a director.

The film Raya and The Last Dragon is a visually beautiful movie that teaches the message of unity. It is also the first Disney princess film to not require a man to save the day.

The film Justice League The Snyder Cut is an over-hyped mess. Its main issues are the over-reliance on gore and the overly long run time. In all honesty I do not recommend this as a movie for the more sensitive among us. If you do watch it, there is a epilepsy warning due to bright strobing lights.
