while this is a horrible event and I am very concerned by what this will mean… A+ picture choice.

After being beaten and battered by prequel hate, I promise not to be that to the next generation.

The machine is giving me no signs of life whatsoever, no fans, no hard drive noises, nothing.
It appears to draw power for about two seconds, which I only can tell because of a USB thing I have plugged in. I tried resetting the PRAM and the SMC. I took out the RAM to make sure it wasn’t either of the memory modules. It’s not the charger either, as that charger is able to charge my 2007 MacBook that’s been collecting dust and isn’t useful for anything.
The computer simply will not boot for anything, nor will it reach the POST. Again, it’s not even giving me any indication that it’s doing anything whatsoever.

I’m not sure if it has to do with the logic board, or anything else like that. I know that I can’t invest anything further in this machine at all, and I am simply unable to get any more hardware at this point in time. I’ll keep trying to get it to work, but I wonder if some sort of fundraising effort might allow me to get a low end, similar error machine to be able to replace it and finish the work. A quick survey of eBay suggests that scraping together $500 might allow to replace it with something pretty comparable that may work. Again, really hoping it doesn’t come to something like that. I just don’t know.

My stance on revising fan edits.

This is widely regarded as Finn’s theme and it was originally listed as such, It’s used over his scenes in a slow or fast pitch in The Force Awakens : https://youtu.be/cHJrfB7VquM?t=78

It’s used as his theme in battlefront aswell,

Oh, that’s Poe Dameron’s theme.

The Battlefront II thing is probably because Poe’s already represented by the March of the Resistance in the game.

Finn has that theme when Poe isn’t around aswell though,

That sounds like a terrible nightmare, I’d die if this happened to my Mac, 2011 is a little far back on the back burner for my taste, I hope you manage to find a way to get it working, if you’re unable todo so I wonder if someone in the community will be willing to help you get things done on the edit, if you do something like that just make sure its someone you can trust with the edit, maybe ask if Popsketti would be willing to pick things up, he’s the only editor I can think of that’d be able todo it on same level as you anyway.

I just got it to boot up. I didn’t do a damn thing different from what I’ve been doing all morning.

Like I said, as soon as I get the chance I will export the audio and video, in case it does go down for good.

Wow Hal, talk about a stressful time with that.

Export stuff like it’s hot.

“Because you are a PalpaWalker?”

If ever there was a case to be made for crowdfunding, Hal’s computer may be it? 😃

I’m an IT Manager. I was getting prepared to whip out all the Mac fixes and tricks, then I scroll down to see it is back up like normal. Computers are something else 😃

The 15" 2011 Macbook Pros are all ticking time bombs due to faulty AMD Radeon GPUs that will fail sooner or later. If you do end up needing to replace the computer, get a mid-2012 unibody Macbook Pro. Those things are still good computers to this day. You could also try running FCP7 in a virtual machine on newer versions of MacOS.

My reaction right now
Congrats on getting the computer back up, Hal! I was worried for a bit.

And about Cinefy’s alleged “Finn’s theme”, it’s used a few times when only Poe is doing anything, but it’s never used when only Finn is doing something. So it’s definitely Poe’s theme, not Finn’s.

My preferred Skywalker Saga experience:
I II III IV V VI VII VIII IX

Is it too late to make a quick suggestion? I did this with one of my fanedits and it enhanced things. I think it’d be cool to have Rey’s voice echo or reverb whatever the term is as she does the I am iron-girl bit. Might actually work and be similar to palp’s voice change in RotS as all the sith speak through him. Like “And I… am [all the jedi]” My best comparison is to how Galadrial sounds when she’s turned crazy by the ring in Lotr. Guess it’s better to show you what I’m talking about tho…

If it’s already been suggested before then oops, sorry, but wanted to try just in case.

Reminds me of Aang when he is in the Avatar state. Maybe Rey’s eyes should glow white/blue/green as she says it?

I think that might take it too far. Probably a little too cheesy. I do like the idea of a subtle echo/reverb though.

What if it can be jumbled together to have Luke, Ben and Anakin say “I’m all the Jedi.” with Rey.

Yoda can say “All the Jedi, I am” too, why not?

That would be awesome, would work better as quiet echo over each of her lines. Sounds pointless but that could be really great if done right. I’ll try do concept.

Is there a deadline for this edit or is it just a case of doing what we can and ending things when it feels complete?

Hmm, what if it was changed to have Rey say “We’re all the Jedi”?

It would contrast Palpatine’s “I am all the Sith” by showing a key difference between them: wanting as much power for yourself as possible and backstabbing to get it, versus working together with compassion and selflessness.

Lol, I don’t think so, guys.

Forget the we’re part, I’ll send concept I’m thinking a quiet echo in backround of voices, might not even work I’ll test it either way. Lol

It’s been a tough morning.

My 2011 MacBook Pro will not power on. It hasn’t all morning. I’ve tried everything I can find to do online, but it looks like their’s a fair chance it’s just totally shot.

Everything relevant to this project is stored on external drives, so I’m not super concerned with losing it.

The potentially showstopping problem, though, is that everything is within FCP7, software that will not run on versions of MacOS more recent than 10.12 Sierra, initially released four years ago.

If my old machine will not power up, and I simply cannot afford to get a new computer at all right now, I will not be able to finish this or even export what I’ve already gotten together without a Macintosh computer that can run 10.12 Sierra. And even then I’m not 100% confident FCP7 will even install at this point.

If the computer does manage to boot back up, the first order of business will be to export the current state of the project as ProRes video and lossless audio stems.

Sorry to hear about your laptop! That’s the worst…

You could also export out an XML, which could be imported directly into Premiere Pro, and you can set the keyboard shortcuts to work like FCP 7. That would give you a 64-bit app to work on your edit as it is currently, rather than starting from scratch on a ProRes export.
