OK, just let me be clear. There’s a difference between having no issues with something and thinking it’s wonderful, they’re not one and the same.

IDK, ever since I first saw TPM I was never bothered by Jar Jar Binks, and whenever I rewatch the movie he still doesn’t bother me. I get how he gets under people’s skin, but what truly puzzles me is the white hot outrage around the character.

I hope I’ve made myself clear this time around.

Okay, got it. I understand completely. He may not be great, but he’s certainly not the worst part of the prequels.

Multiplayer-only games have no appeal to me. I prefer single player offline games.

+1

I’ve been away from the console and computer games landscape for nearly a decade now, so I might be wrong, but I fear Single-Player games are becoming a niche market.

“I’m with you too!”
I’ve never liked most multiplayer online games, especially first-person shooters. They’re just a hub for toxicity.

So far no one has posted an unpopular opinion regarding books, so let me be the first to take the plunge.

I started reading the Malazan books based on all the enthusiastic praise people were giving them online, and have read both the main series of books by Steven Erikson and the complementary Novels of the Malazan Empire by Ian Cameron Esslemont.

Overall I found the books to be alright, but nowhere near the masterpiece of modern literature everyone claims them to be. There’s a lot to like, but there’s also a lot that I didn’t like, for instance characters and/or storylines that are left unresolved, characters who disappear from the story only to return with absolutely no explanation as to what they’ve been up to, stuff that that is hinted at but never pans out, etc.

Sleeping Beauty is the best of the Disney Princess films. The choice of having the main characters be the good fairies turns the fairy tale formula on its head, and in the 1950s it was unheard of for the main characters to be a strong female. The 70mm animation is incredible, as is the soundtrack by Tchaikovsky. Not to mention the incredible villain Maleficent.

If J. R. R. Tolkien was as gifted an editor as he was a writer, I may have been able to finish reading The Lord of the Rings. As-is, the books are too frikkin’ bloated.

Preach, man. I stopped reading the books after I got to Tom Bombadil. The books are just way too long, with way too much boring unimportant stuff in them. I ended up watching the movies later, and really enjoyed them. They’re some of my favorite movies of all time. I guess I just don’t have the patience for Tolkien’s style of storytelling.

I heard a theory that Bombadil is the gatekeeper of the story. In traversing the threshold of the Old Forest and passing through the mist of the barrows, the reader enters the dream world of the adventure.

But agreed that this style isn’t for everyone. I have strong feelings for it in part because of its meandering prose - It feels like a world in which to live rather than a story to consume, if that makes sense.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

For some ungodly reason I got to the urge to throw on Kingdom of the Crystal Skull again and know what? It kinda owns. As silly and nonsensencial as it is it retains that kinetic Spielberg direction. Each of the action scenes has an incredible oomf to them. Great piece of pulp fiction. I had the biggest grin on my face throughout most of the movie. Just a ridiculous fun time. Will never not cheer when the ants go in that Russians dudes mouth and then drag his rotting body into the ant hill. Give it a watch you might have a good time with the right mindset!

Self portrait by Bob Dylan is a good album.

Honey Ryder (film version) is overrated.

Pink Floyd got a lot better after Waters left.

The Beatles got a LOT better during and after '65.

Superhero Comics, especially Batman, have gotten WAY too dark and gritty in this century.

Zager and Evans are severely underrated. Just listen to their other works, including 2525.

Fight me. 😉 😈

I hate 2001, A Space Odyssey. If you want to see something more boring than Attack Of The Clones this would be it.

I think Blade Runner is overrated. The 1st is lackluster and the 2nd is just dead a boring.

Dwayne Johnson is not a good a actor. I think he’s vastly overrated because people think he’s all that due to their WWF nostalgia.

Tommy Oliver is not the best Power Ranger, Kimberly isn’t the hottest Pink Ranger and MMPR is not the best Power Rangers season. Also I don’t like both Jason David Frank and Amy Jo Johnson.

Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man Trilogy is the best depiction of a Cinematic version of the Spider-Man comics and characters as well as one of the best formulars for a live action super hero movie.

I don’t like Hollywood horror movies, mostly of recent times. They only focus on cheap jump scares and fun house like shock values (both of which don’t work on me because I have an obsession with gore and creepy stuff) instead of well written likable characters and a good story. Indipendant horrors are better becuase they make you care about the charaters thus you don’t want them to die.

I love The Matrix movies. I also thought Keanu Reeves was an excellant actor before it was cool.

I love Tron Legacy not for it’s soundtrack, but for the story.

I love metalcore. And I’m talking about heavy metal core and not the dubsteppy mess that BMTH is trying to pass as Metal Core thus giving it a bad name amoungst the metal community.

I hate the Star Wars Prequils and Special Editions and the Sequils are way better than both. Love the Theatrical version of the Original Trilogy.

I hate rap, pop, techno and dubstep. Like whatever happen to having good, complex, personal songs with meaning on the radio?

Peter Capaldi is the worst Doctor in Doctor Who while the Jodie Whittaker seasons is the most poorly written set of eps in the entire series.

I love Terminator Salvation.

Both It movies suck, especially the new one.

The Hobbit movies aren’t that bad.

Don’t love it, but I certainly prefer it over T3.

Haven’t watched any of the sequels made since, but I can’t imagine my answer would differ regarding them.

I never watched Chapter Two. Suppose that speaks volumes on how much I liked Chapter One; only the casting was good.

There was comic versions of Salvation 2 and 3 and despite them mistakenly calling all T-Uits T-800s it was good. It was gonna give the Terminator fanchise a Matrix Revolutions/Star Trek style ending (in terms enemy of my enemy and diplomacy) after a bloody final battle.

Compared to Genecyst and Dank Fate, T3 is a masterpiece.

I was talking about the original and the reboot, the fact that CH2 is something I completely ignored from exisitence speaks volumes.

Slapstick isn’t funny. It’s entertaining though.

Romance is stupid and unnecessary in movies unless it is crucial to the plot. (Is this unpopular?)

I don’t like most musical films. They’re just too cheerful and romanticises a historic era sometimes, and probably most appeal to middle aged mums. However, there are some musicals I do genuinely do enjoy.

Fan-service is god-awful bollocks and ruins the aesthetic of a film other than to please horny teenagers. That ruins a lot of anime. Please, young-adult oriented anime where the female characters aren’t sexualised and look like a bug-eyed Disney character please?

I’m bloody tired of Every. Single. Fantasy. Story… taking place in a world modelled after medieval Europe. Like, how about a world modelled after imperial Asia, or… ancient Mesopotamia. Or, god forbid, pre-contact America?! Just stop trying to be like Tolkien.

What the flying fuck are the good plot advancing reasons for sex scenes other than to please the bloody audience?!

Terminator 1 had a sex scene to explain how John Connor was conceived to keep the time loop stable.

Did a quick page flip to skim for The Dark Knight in case it was already mentioned because it felt like a cliche to say it by now but TDK is massively overrated.*

EDIT: *adding the obvious to say Heath Ledger did a great job and that overrated doesn’t mean total ass

I find myself enjoying The Dark Knight Rises a lot more than TDK. In fact TDKR is my favourite of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

Now that’s a hot take.

He has the same problems as Lucas, just in the opposite direction. Whereas Lucas doesn’t add enough emotion to his stories, Spielberg adds too much emotion.

Is that how Indiana Jones came out so perfect?

Literally the only good thing that was filmed in Attack of the Clones is the less than 5 minute sequence when Anakin goes on the hunt for his mother, finds her and kills the Sandpeople.

What about the death sticks gag? To me that’s the highlight of the film.

Relative to it’s budget, it’s the worst film ever made.

You’ve clearly never seen RoS.

I’ve no issues with Jar Jar Binks and don’t know why people are so incensed by said character.

I second this.

Multiplayer-only games have no appeal to me. I prefer single player offline games.

And this.

The 70mm animation is incredible, as is the soundtrack by Tchaikovsky.

They resurrected Tchaikovsky for this? Now I’m tempted to see it. But not quite tempted enough to actually do it. Never cared much for Disney. There’s an unpopular opinion for ya.

If J. R. R. Tolkien was as gifted an editor as he was a writer, I may have been able to finish reading The Lord of the Rings. As-is, the books are too frikkin’ bloated.

The Hobbit I could handle but LotR’s six chapters of lollygagging in the Shire I could not. Those books could be half as long as they are and be all the better for it.

It feels like a world in which to live rather than a story to consume, if that makes sense.

That does make sense. Just not quite for me.

For some ungodly reason I got to the urge to throw on Kingdom of the Crystal Skull again and know what? It kinda owns.

KotCS is great.

Superhero Comics, especially Batman, have gotten WAY too dark and gritty in this century.

Haven’t they been doing that since the 80s?

What the flying fuck are the good plot advancing reasons for sex scenes other than to please the bloody audience?!

I feel like if they’re gonna have sex scenes they should at least commit and make it full-on porn. The way I see it, that way they would serve as the perfect culmination of a compelling relationship.
