I fully support the message being in the movie, super cool. I have no issue with “Somehow Palpatine returned” but the “16 hours…” line is pretty bad 😕

“At last the work of generations is complete, the day of victory is at hand, the day of the sith.
Send the fleet to the galaxy…let it burn.
The Final order begins”
“Yes my lord”

I would say this might be best. (Might have to skip the “Fortnight” message part altogether.) But, the Pryde Palpatine scene would either become very short, or lost, though. I do like spelling out that the First Order is going there to man the ship, and that scene is the only real way in any version of the film to soundly imply that.

I would really like it if we could somehow have Palpy yell something like, “Skywalker is dead!” Luke’s death made basically no impact on this film so anything to remind us of him would be very much welcome in my opinion.

Edit:

Just watched the clip, using only a portion of the message works surprisingly well, the only big issue is that it seems like removing “somehow Palpatine returned” makes Poe’s next line “He’s been planning his revenge for years” seem very abrupt, it makes it a little too obvious he’s already in the middle of a speech.

I mean, he died a year ago after abandoning the galaxy years prior to that… I can’t imagine Palpatine is still bothered about a long-solved problem.

Well, here’s the scene with a temp audio clip for Palpatine. Could select a different portion to use, but having the static conclusion to prompt the crowd reaction seems to work.

That honestly works GREAT. Also, nice, the “16 hours” is out! Great work!

I really like that too. Helps sell that they might’ve heard more off-screen but there’s still enough to evoke the reaction we see.

If there were ten seconds more footage we could get most of the message in, ideally.

I mean, they could talk over some of the message. Just depends which bits have significance to you.

I could potentially slow down the establishing shot for you to add a few more seconds. Alternatively you could combine Cinefy and Hal’s versions. Start with the Cinefy clip, but replace the voice lines with “At last the work of generations is complete. The great error is corrected.” Then cut to the wide and put the last few lines there, as if they were replaying the broadcast for the whole crew. We can assume there was more broadcast in between that we just don’t hear.

This is very promising indeed

After being beaten and battered by prequel hate, I promise not to be that to the next generation.

That came out really well, Hal! Message + no “16 hours”… I like it

Poe’s later line of “so he’s been out there all this time pulling the strings” might work to fill that void before he says he’s been planning his revenge

A few months back, I made a trailer using the lost dialgoue, since it was implied by the novel and crawl to be some sort of Pre-film event heard throughout the Galaxy that prompted the rest of the film’s events. At this time, this is how I interpreted it.

Having said that, this new scene’s explanation/edit is a fantastic way to incorporate it. It fits very naturally, allows at least some of it to be heard, and fits with the idea that it’s still part of the larger plot as described in the novelization.

If you’re listening to community ideas, I think you really need to keep and use a cut like that somehow.

That would be solved by playing the message over the reaction shots instead of having them react to it after. like in IIFaneditor’s version

Have made an extended version of the musical cue for the “Rey Skywalker” moment at the end.

I took some strings and flutes from a cue in The Last Jedi and transposed them to A# which play underneath the horns until the rest of the orchestra comes in, as well as copying that starting note and transposing it down a fifth so you get the nice complete statement of the Force Theme (even though it’s in a different key than usual to make it fit with Rey’s theme, which thematically I actually quite like here.)

I’ve also subtly doubled the orchestra for the very last statement of Rey’s theme before it hits credits. The cue as written in the TFA suite is fairly subdued in terms of arrangement for what’s supposed to be a big, cathartic “end of a 9 film saga” shot. It should just sound like the rest of the orchestra naturally swells in, but let me know if it needs massaging, or you want a version without that.

Hopefully it’s useful, I welcome any feedback!

I’ve updated the WAV file with a third version, massaging that first note a bit more by adding some artificial reverb which slowly comes out as the rest of the orchestra comes in. Shouldn’t be noticeable other than smoothing over that introduction.

IIFaneditor’s version is great! I really like having the entire message in like that

I had to make it faster and reduce time between different parts of the message, because we don’t have many reaction shots that can be used in that sequence. So it doesn’t sound that great. But yeah, the purpose of this was to get rid of the “Somehow Palpatine returned”.

I won’t know how it would sound until I mock it up, but I imagine this being a possible way to extend the scene slightly:

“I have waited a long time for this moment… the day of revenge… the day of the Sith.”

Instead of re-using the line from ROTS maybe you could use the line from the trailer: “long have I waited, and now… The day of victory is at hand, the day of the Sith.”

The reason he’s reusing the line from ROTS is because he cut the Yoda vs Palpatine duel, and therefore it would be the first time that line appeared in Hal’s saga edits.
