Daniel Day-Lewis’ performance was over the top.
I love over-the-top. There aren’t enough over-the-top actors in the business anymore.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Tim Burton is better than the Mel Stuart 1971 version.
It was inevitable that at some point an opinion would come in so hot that it would get smoke in some eyes.
It was also inevitable that at some point an opinion would come in so absolutely foul that a reputation would be ruined.
Friends, I think we have both here.
A moment of silence, please.
Your quote is putting words in my mouth. 😉

SONIC RACES THROUGH THE GREEN FIELDS.
THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.
THE WAYS OF HIS HEART ARE MUCH LIKE THE SUN. SONIC RUNS AND RESTS; THE SUN RISES AND SETS.
DON’T GIVE UP ON THE SUN. DON’T MAKE THE SUN LAUGH AT YOU.

EDIT: It’s worth noting that my post requesting said explanation was meant to be lighthearted, and was not intended to be malicious in any way.
Understood, thanks for clarifying.

FIXED!
The SNES era was the best era of Final Fantasy. IV has the nostalgia factor, V has the innovative Job System and VI has the best story and characters. Kefka is the best villain in the franchise.
Terry Gilliam is a very hit-or-miss filmmaker. And I think he skews more towards the latter.

For context, what do you think are the “hits”?

Yeah, I wasn’t aware of his films being held in high regard (unless you’re counting Monty Python).
I like Time Bandits, though to be honest I feel like all of his films have a strange off-putting style.
You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.
Episode 9 Rewrite, The Starlight Project (Released!) and ANH Technicolor Project (Released!)
Oh no, that’s not what I meant. I’ve enjoyed every one of his films I’ve watched. I was just curious which ones DE liked, so that I can understand what he doesn’t care for in Gilliam’s films.
Time Bandits, Brazil, and Fear and Loathing are great.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, and Tideland. I originally liked 12 Monkeys and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, but found they were less than the sum of their parts upon revisitation.
Fear and Loathing is decent, but probably needed to stick closer to the source. The idea of Ralph Bakshi doing an animated version of Ralph Steadman’s illustrations (maybe with Dr. Hunter S. Thompson narrating) sounds very appealing to me.
The Harry Potter series probably would have worked better in today’s age of “prestige TV adaptations,” as that format would allow for fewer book deviations (e.g., making Ron an idiot, deleting subplots, and trying to soften Snape).
That series got exactly what it deserved.
I’m just here because I’m driving tonight.
No series deserves to slowly go from amazing to embarrassing over a 10 year run.
In before Duracell riffs on that statement.

I never understood the appeal of The Shawshank Redemption.

A great story well told. Great charters & performances. Beautiful cinematography. Wonderful score. Resonating themes.
You don’t have to like it, but lots of appeal.

I agree with Anakin Starkiller.
The Shawshank Redemption felt like a melodramatic made-for-tv movie. Don’t know why it’s ranked so highly.
P.S.: crawling through a tunnel full of fecal matter will result in death within five minutes.
I don’t like Hans Zimmer’s music. He’s fine, and when he goes outside his usual boring style, he can produce some outstanding work, although always suspiciously co-composing. But his normal stuff is slow, with boring instrumentation and no melody. You ain’t gonna be humming Time the way you do the Imperial March.
Yeah, it’s why I was disappointed when I learned he’s in charge of the music in the upcoming Dune adaptation. I was hoping for someone like Éric Serra, who IMO is one of the most underrated composers.

This is pretty spot on. I’ve long considered Hans Zimmer to be incredibly overrated for the most part.

I’ve never liked Hans Zimmer. Monotonous and forgettable sums up his work.
I agree Zimmer is overrated as all hell, but Shawshank has a great score. It has several “humble” tunes.
Not that humability has anything to do with great music.
