I’m reading the script (about 20 pages in) and, yeah, so far I think this would’ve been better than what we got. Granted, I have a somewhat fuzzy memory of Rise of Skywalker since I’ve only seen it once back in December. While I didn’t hate it, it didn’t really do much for me either. This seems like a better ending imo. Keeping palpating (lol, autocorrect. Palpatine.) dead is a big plus already.

According to a very recent interview with Colin Trevorrow (May 8th) on AnimalTalking: He wasn’t fired. It was the bad reception of Book of Henry that prompted him to “hand over the ball” and leave

I find that highly unlikely. He had the perfect opportunity to redeem himself with one of the biggest movies of the year. More likely Disney said “hey we might fire you wink wink if you want to maintain your reputation maybe resign around now wink wink”

^ And as interesting as DOTF is, I don’t blame Disney for this, because I too would be nervous when the big finale is written and directed by a filmmaker who just had a major flop.

That’s pretty exciting! Thanks for sharing this.

Although my first thought was about how, if I recall correctly, the script really butchers Poe and tries to sell ReyxPoe with the standard Trevorrow ‘serious “uptight” girl x immature “goofball” guy’ dynamic which is the only kind of romance he seems to know how to write. I’m biased, as I prefer Reylo (though perhaps without an actual romance?). So, annoyingly, I don’t think the script is an absolute improvement over what we got. And anyway, in a way it’s odd to adapt the entirety of such a flawed first draft, but sticking to it does make it more “official” I guess.

I wish, even just to preserve a “definitely could-have-been” ala Splinter of the Mind’s Eye, it could get released in an actually official capacity.

reylo?

Lol it seems like I’m in the ultra fringe minority that diggs ReyPoe.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure you’re one of the only two people who likes that, the other one being Trevorrow of course. I liked most of the alternate script, but even I thought that romance was forced.

Although I did like Kylo’s arc, which was another one of the widely hated parts of the script. The only problem with it is the subplot about Kylo’s messed up face, it feels too much like Doctor Doom.

My preferred Skywalker Saga experience:

What can say, I loved it.
I’m sure Han and Leia’s romance could have been read as forced in the script but when translated on to the screen it became a life of it’s own.

I have no doubt the actors would have played it well but it’s a dumb idea regardless.

Yeah, poor Finn.

I have a feeling whatever arc he had in TROS was dropped to the cutting room floor.

I feel like Finn + Rey was pretty heavily setup in TFA. Part of my issue with Poe (and Kylo to an extent) is that it’s not setup in the earlier movies (or in Kylo’s case just TFA).
