Why do people pre-order in the first place? Stupid.

Convenience, mostly. Sometimes it’s to lock in a sale price that happens between announcement and on-sale date. Scarcity can be a thing, too. Pre-ordering limited editions makes a lot of sense in many cases. Plus in some cases pre-ordering lets you put money down when you have it over time so you’re not shocking your wallet all in one go if it’s an expensive item.

These are some pretty common sense answers in the past 30 or so years that “pre-ordering” (or the 20-30 years before that, “layaway”) has been a popular purchasing option.

Skywalker Saga Boxset - Disney Star Wars 4K is a ZERO Sum Game’:-

Star Wars on Disney 4K in a huge box? Is it worth it? Find out!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TE5OTopl5A - on the RetroBlasting YouTube channel. (5 mins long)

Some decent information on the boxset - and a reminder of the quality and limitations on offer in it.

The FE Renegades thread; from the people who post ‘go kill yourself’, ‘fuck you’, ‘let’s throw abuse’, and more at OT staff & members. Four years on and still throwing accusations, slurs and abuse at the OT & anyone outside their Salacious Crumb filled clique. + FE Discord “to vent” more at the OT. Wook’s take.

Good to know, I won’t be wasting my wallet on it.

Nope, there is a lot of misinformation in that video not to mention how he’s so rude. The biggest one being is that all three movies of the ST are in native 4k.

More details here about the rest of the set:

Seems to me it is just choice.

Own it for offline viewing.

Subscribe to Disney+ streaming is the other way to get it also…

But that is where it stops and there is’nt anything wrong with that per se, but it’s obvious that stuff is still being held back or simply put the special features at this point are a secondary thought and the transfers were the big deal.

It will get repackaged with extra stuff later on down the line but it’s another 5 years at least…

I’m going to want to hear that the HD BR discs in this set (and hopefully the 18 disc BR set) actually have new content on them before I buy any of them. I have them on BR twice already and I don’t need them a third time unless they are the new transfers of the OT. That is all I want.

Yep… And they should be the Disney+ versions on the new release.

Deleted scenes is where it is at to get you to buy something again and again it does not matter even if they are not very good just to see them is amazing… Here is a list of what should be shown we know about.

Star Wars

  1. Conference scene extended footage we have been shown

  2. Motti in front of viewscreen alternate take “final checks complete”

  3. Shot of Used Spacecraft salesman in Mos-Eisley there was a large scale model created for this small scene(is it small?)

  4. The Yellow and Black Land Speeder driving through the stormtrooper checkpoint at Mos Eisley (proper camera angle from the side)

  5. Close ups of Dewbacks or any alterative shots for the storm troopers finding the escape pod.

  6. Han Talking about “Five fire rings of Fornax” in relation to how hard it is to get back to the falcon in Hanger 327 on the Death Star

  7. Deleted Holo Chess stop motion animation

  8. Anything Else

Empire Strikes Back

  1. Shot of Luke swinging the Lightsaber at the Wampa

  2. Chewie Shooting at the storm trooper killing him after Boba Fett escapes

  3. Missing Gun Battle footage of Cloud city guards vs Storm troopers

  4. Missing shots from gun battle at the falcon docking bay escape from cloud city

  5. Lando pulling Luke across the falcon under cloud city rescue

  6. Audio or footage relating to the turret the Probe droid destroys

  7. Trapped in the Elevator scene Cloud city

  8. Leia and Han kiss on Falcon in Color

  9. Anything else

ROTJ

  1. Luke snaps scout troopers neck on speeder Bike blue screen shot in good quality

  2. Yoda “Obi-wan would have told you had I let him” Line and any other shots like R2 repairing the x-wing.

  3. Rancor Stuff

  4. Anything else

Pretty Tight ROTJ I think…But a bit cheaper

I don’t think there is actually that much left to be honest.

Any better camera angles appreciated 😃

I remember we talked about if Disney were to release a box set they could include the Star Tours Ride footage restored… How many of us went on that I know I did and that would be a nice connection between Disney and Star Wars.

Perhaps the Lapti-Nek Music Video in decent quality

The thought lost documentary that was found on the making of Empire Strikes Back

I have to say it seems a little more thought could have gone into the Special features the “and much, much more” does not really say anything to me.

I don’t really want the other 6 films on the set though so I don’t know what to do I think I will wait for individual trilogy box sets to show up.

Should have been extensive releases for the OT and PT at least with all official versions included all scanned in 4K. Seamless branching and multiple audio selections to choose from. Similar to Blade Runner and the more recent Kingdom of Heaven BDs where all releases are included with tons of bonus features. Care more about Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi compared to the rest. These three should’ve been all out regarding everything and more.
Disappointing since The Mandalorian got me to care more about Star Wars recently.

There’s way too many changes made to the Star Wars, A New Hope in particular, to be able to do seamless branching.

Does the general public even know the PT has different versions? I mean barely anyone out there in the wild knows what the OOT is so…

RotS is kinda the odd one out, since the version we have now is basically the theatrical cut with only one or two very minor changes to the picture and sound, and it’s the only one where the edit hasn’t been adjusted one bit AFAIK (aside from the wipe/cut).

Even TPM’s most significant changes (Extended podrace, Coruscant taxi, cgi Yoda, the bridge by Theed Palace), could easily be branched onto the same disc as the theatrical cut.

Heck, including the imax cut of AotC would merely require skipping over stretches of the movie for the most part.

For each movie they could do three cuts:

TPM:
‘99 Theatrical
‘01 Extended
‘11 bd

AotC:
‘02 theatrical
‘02 Imax
‘11 bd

RotS:
‘05 theatrical
‘05 dvd
‘11 bd

I don’t think any further changes from the 2011 versions were spotted in the D+ versions, were there?

Only color grading changes, I believe. I think the cuts themselves are the same as the Blu-ray for the prequel trilogy.

I’m skipping this Maclunkey box. It’s likely the D+ versions on disc plus faux 4K discs for the others all in a box full of more maclunkey to try and entice fans to buy. I’m sure they’ll sell some for the holidays and such but yet again it’s a wasted opportunity.

Who knows they may even redo the sound again and make it even worse!

Yup. But the day they include the theatrical versions in 4K (or even HD for that matter) on a bonus disc, it’s an immediate buy for me. Your move, Disney. Do you want our money or not?

Considering I am doing prequel edits and regrades, I have no choice but to get this boxset. Also, I feel like we will see a 4K OOT fan restoration mixing in appropriate elemnts from 4K77/4k80/4K83 in with these official 4K versions. Also Adywan said ROTJ:R would be sourced off the new 4K version.

I think I’d love to do my own 4K version of SW/ANH with a modern grade and certain elements of the original versions from the 4K77 scan. I would also make the HDR have greater dynamic range, they are too dim compared to the ST HDR grades.

I don’t believe there’s a thread on this forum about it, but instead it’s over at TheStarWarsTrilogy forums, where the 4KXX series and the Silver Screen Edition scans originate from.

Short version - it’s essentially a “de-specialized edition” that uses the Disney+ files as the base, and replaces shots as necessary from the 4K77 and 4K80 scans to make the 2012 Lowry re-masters as close to theatrical as possible. It’s not as involved as Harmy’s Despecialized projects, which involved a lot of blending and matte-work, it seems to mostly just be replacing whole shots when a change comes up. It’s notable that the 4K80 project isn’t very close to completion yet, but the scans themselves have been made available to Oohteedee for use in his project.

Yeah, there really hasn’t been any talk of ohteedee’s D+77/80/83 outside of the 4K77 forums. That is likely to change once the box set comes out and he updates them with rips of the actual 4K discs rather than using streaming rips.

It should also be noted that the project is explicitly NOT a purist reconstruction - plenty of 1997 recomposited effects are left in purposefully, but IIRC anything that was newly created in 1997 or later is replaced. It’s just the redone wipes and effects that were recomposited from original elements or otherwise cleaned up that ohteedee left in.
