I am uploading a workprint now. It’s a render straight out of premiere at 10mbps with 5.1 aac. Total size is 10gb, but it won’t be the same quality as the final, which is encoded with ffmpeg.

It has four changes:

1. adopts Hal and jarbear’s version of Canto Bight, where we at least see broom boy.
2. Phasma’s body is now added in the Finn/Rose hanger scene after Holdo’s maneuver.
3. added some light reflection of the explosion to the shot of Poe after the bridge explosion.
4. Tweaked the fx shot of the cannon firing on Crait. My first pass removing Finn and Rose from the shot looked a little rough to me so I wanted to improve it.

I’ll send the workprint to anyone interested, and overall, my goal is to have a final V2 before the movie comes out, hopefully sooner. Thank you!

Exactly, the “miniaturized Death Star tech” line is already removed so I don’t think there’s any need to worry about the laser colors.

Hello, I am happy to say that I have posted the V2 of Rekindled! The first post has been updated, and any vimeo links needing updates have been posted as well. If you already have a link to the V1, it’s the same link so no need to ask again if you’ve made a request previously, though you are welcome to if you can’t find it!

V2 is not a dramatic shift, but more of a refinement pass based on feedback and my own notes. I must thank Hal 9000 and jarbear for their updated version of Canto Bight, which fleshes out the casino planet a little bit more, giving it more meaning and showing us broom boy briefly.

There are also many suggestions that I tried, and decided not to implement for various reasons. I’ve listed those below as well.

V2 Changes:

1. adjusted music during Hux call to improve flow and tension while retaining the same dialogue as in V1.
2. added some light reflection of the explosion to the shot of Poe after the bridge explosion, per FreezingTNT2’s suggestion.
3. adopted Hal 9000 and jarbear’s version of Canto Bight, with Finn and Rose spending more time looking through the casino, allowing us to see broom boy.
4. Phasma’s body is now added in the Finn/Rose hanger scene while the Supremacy is crumbling, per hal 9000’s suggestion.
5. Tweaked the fx shot of the cannon firing on Crait. My first pass removing Finn and Rose from the shot looked a little rough to me so I wanted to improve it.

Changes I tried, but decided against:

1. Remove “Oh no” from opening battle. It was an easy edit, but it just didn’t feel like a necessary change. I can see why the on-the-nose dialogue irks some people, but it feels pretty natural in Star Wars to me, and without it, that scene just feels like ambience. The line punctuates the shot.
2. Reduce BB-8 silliness in the opening battle. I’ve seen it done many ways, but to me it’s not a necessary change. I don’t mind that there’s some silly slapstick in the movie here.
3. Remove Maz’s labor union dispute reference. Tried again but it didn’t work, it is too woven into the shots.

Adywan’s TFA: Restructure and your TLJ: Rekindled are my ‘go to’ versions of these movies, sounds like the small refinements only add to the polish so I’m excited to check them out so I’m currently downloading the 34GB bad boy to potentially replace V1 😃

I added some commentary as to why I think this is a genius idea on Hal’s Legendary board.

Now that someone has mooted the idea/concept, I can’t help but think it’s an absolute must

I think adding the Palpatine laugh is a great idea and in my mind it works on at least two levels:-

1. On one hand even IF the addition is not not directly linked in TROS, it could give a bit of extra weight to Luke’s mindset that caused him to actually consider killing Ben:-
   The surge of Paranoia caused by seeing a vision of Ben turn and then associating him with becoming as cruel and evil as his former foe.

It’s that which ultimately triggers Luke to ignite his saber, almost as if it’s an instinctive response triggering by PTSD

…by the time he gathers his senses and decides not to give in to his fear, it’s too late.

2. Or if TROS goes down the path that we are all thinking it will:-
   It’s a more literal indication/foreshadowing that Palpatine was/is still pulling the strings from beyond the grave and able to extort his influence over both the heroes and villains in order to position all of them into doing everything he needs them to do in order to execute his return to power.

In this case, even in ‘death’, Palpatine was able to capitalise on Luke’s fear/weakness and manipulate him into pushing Ben away…which subsequently cemented his turn.

And this brings us back to what he said back in the throne room during ROTJ:-

‘Everything That Has Transpired Has Done So According to My Design’

That’s something I would definitely consider! Anything is on the table, really, after I see TROS Monday. I should say right now, though, that I’m only skimming comments here because I’ve managed to keep myself spoiler-free since the first teaser trailer, so I only vaguely understand how that would make sense!
