How did you originally find this site?

I thought it might be interesting to share our stories of how we first found our way to the best Star Wars site on the web.

I’m sure there are far more exciting stories than mine but I’ll start the ball rolling:

I was browsing the official starwarsdotcom forum back in 2008 and there were conversations about mistakes and continuity in the movies. My bugbear at the time was the blurry stars outside the throne room in ROTJ and I was pleased to find another person there who’d complained about the same thing. But one of the next comments mentioned how “Adywan” would probably fix that in his version. I had no idea what an Adywan was but I did some research and found myself reading his list of changes in the ANH:R thread. I’ve been a regular ever since.

I expect there’s a lot who came here thanks to Adywan and Harmy but it’ll still be interesting to hear your stories. So come on, tell us how you found your way here!

I was looking for fan edits of the prequels after hearing of the Phantom Edit and stumbled across this place and LD preservations of the OOT. Then I discovered the custom DVD art section, and custom DVD art was a hobby of mine already, so I spent most of my time in there, and eventually I just kinda stuck around.

Honestly, if it wasn’t for the custom art section, I might have popped in, found the edits and preservations I was looking for, and never come back.

Instead that got me to stick around, and I tumbled into the rabbit hole of fan edits and preservations, never to return…

I don’t remember when exactly I first stumbled upon ot.com. 2009? Maybe even as early as 2008? I wanted to join a SW community which didn’t heap undue praise upon the PT/SE/modern EU; I couldn’t authenticate my IMDb account to post on the message boards at the time, and TFN — HAH! — so I started posting here.

I saw the Jabba scene in Star Wars and knew something was up, I found this site and signed the petition. I made my account around 10 years later upon discovery of the Despecialized Editions.

I was just trying to google how to make an anamorphic version of the GOUT (anticipating that my son, now 10, might want to see Star Wars one day), and bam, there goes a few years of my life.

In 2008, a friend of mine, who is mostly a lurker here, invited me over to see a movie. It was Star Wars Revisited. I’d never heard of it, knew little about what people were up to with fan edits, and was totally blown away. My friend pointed me here to read about it and to follow ESB:R and preservation projects.
I found people I liked, many interesting projects and many things to laugh about, so I stuck around.

I came here originally because a user at the Telltale Games forums brought up Adywan’s ANH:R in the middle of a communal rant about George Lucas.

My first post, from August 2010, is on Ady’s ANH:R thread asking for help finding the Purist Edition.

I started posting/visiting more often, though still only sporadically, after Harmy’s release of SW:DE 2.0. When I really started being active was when I moved into Off-Topic some time early last year.

I think it was after one time watching the ROTJ blu and hearing Vader tell Nooooo. I think that’s the Google search that led me here.

I would put this in my sig if I weren’t so lazy.

Its been so long ago I’m not even sure I remember. I think I was on some sort of pro wide screen site, and somehow got here.

Looking for Harmy’s Despecialized Editions some 4-5 years ago I stumbled across this place several times and because my knowledge of English at the time was pretty limited compared to where it’s at now, I kept thinking this site would have download links. Eventually I realized that that was not the case and I got the DE because of Facebook and never came back here. Well, until HelloGreedo’s video on ESB:R, which led me to FE.org. There I found out about darthrush’s RotJ and came here because of it. Eventually I stuck around.

This was 5 months ago mind you.

My first post was in 2012, when I expressed interest in -1’s project. I’m sure I lurked on the site for quite a while before that though, and frequented other sites such as Save Star Wars.

Remember when a 35mm preservation was a ‘crazy proposal’ and we were all busying ourselves with the GOUT and Laserdisc? Such innocent times.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Right?! That was such an absolute pipe dream at best.

I remember reading — not here, but elsewhere — that if someone even attempted having one small section of a print restored, they’d be reported and criminal charges brought on their heads.

Through finding out about the Despecialized Editions during my relapse into Star Wars in 2014. I didn’t make an account here until 2015 because I couldn’t figure out how to find my email authentication.

Not enough people read the EU.

I watched ‘The People vs. George Lucas’ and then searched for the site. Harmy’s DE got me to join and began my journey into the world of preservations and fan edits.

I don’t remember how, but I came across Despecialized in 2014, which got me interested in all the projects here. Since I prefered the originals and would watch my P&S faces vhs set, I was probably looking for alternatives online and just found the ot.com page. I lurked for a year before joining in 2015, and I don’t remember why I did that either. Stuck around though.

I’m pretty sure I saw someone advertise the petition to get the originals released before anyone knew GOUT was happening. I downloaded some LD rips someone here had made. 2 months after GOUT I registered as I enjoyed the huge amount of technical knowledge this place had and all kinds of archival rarities that were featured, BTS stuff etc. Back then this place was a SW treasure trove.

I joined to find some sort of edit or how to do so and Frink helped me out.

That doesn’t seem possible.
