Why would a Vader/Fett little chat be of any use ? I mean, does Fett try to keep Luke alive at any point in the movie ? The idea sounds cool but nothing in the actual movie would be consistent with it.

He wraps him up with his arm cord thingy rather than just shoot him at one point on the skiff battle.

Then he stands up and starts shooting at him, prompting Chewie to warn Han about him.

Yeah, but if you’re reediting things so Fett tries to capture Luke, the rope-grab part can be repurposed. I’m just saying that there’s some existing material that could support this change.

Another thing, I wonder if Ady can get rid of the audio of Greedo from ANH from Jabba’s Throne Room.

I didn’t know about this. At what time in the film is this audible?

When the droids enter the room, that whole time you can hear each of Greedo’s lines, in order.

Was that a mistake, or an attempt to subliminally connect to 4?

I’m sure it was

“BEN, find us a bunch of alien dialog.”

“I could record all new–”

“Nah, just use the stuff you already have recorded.”

Anybody say anything about Lando jumping to hyperspace before akbar mark,

Prepare to go into hyperspace in my mark.
Lando just says OK and pulls the lever, who made that guy a general

That’s a good point, and something that always bugged me. If we see some sort of light come on in the Falcon which indicates a sort of fleet-wide signaling system, it would make more sense.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

And y’all thought the halfassery began with Greedo shooting first.

I’ve assumed Ackbar is giving the mark to the capital ships, with Lando giving the mark to the fighters.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet or not, but I have a suggestion regarding the Sarlacc scene:

It has always stuck out to me that neither Jabba’s sail barge nor the skiff hover in any way – it’s really obvious that they’re both stationary and fixed to the ground; they don’t feel mobile. I suspect this was Lucas’ reasoning behind adding the new digital shot of the barge in motion at the opening of this sequence, but now that new moment underscores how motionless the thing is throughout the rest of it, in my opinion.

Take for example the bit where Luke is on the deck of Jabba’s barge, with his lightsaber – the sand dunes and sky in the bakground are 100% static, which makes the shot feel more artifical, in my opinion. Likewise, in the shot where the skiff lurches and Han falls off, the skiff appears to be rigged to fall over, and it sort of klunks into place, almost bouncing from the momentum, which is exactly what is happening. A good practical effect for 1983, but by modern standards it looks rather dodgy.

I’m sure it would be no small task to successfully animate these vehicles to appear more like they’re floating, but it seems to me that it would add a much stronger sense of reality to that sequence. I don’t think we need to see the vehicles “doing donuts” or anything as dramatic as that, but just some subtle motion to make them more ‘real.’

ROTJ has always felt the most “stagey” of the OT to me, and the one that was the most unconcerned with shots looking less than impressive. Some of the sets and locations really feel like sets and locations, and I’ve always felt it was detrimental to the suspension of disbelief necessary for a fantasy film. I’d be thrilled to see this kind of thing minimized or eliminated for ROTJ:R.

This 100% sounds like something you just made up as a joke, yet of course I know it’s probably true.

100% agreed. I really hope Ady can work some magic on this front.

Like how he used a three-dimensional model for the establishing shot of the “I am your father” scene, replacing the matte painting?

I think that’s actually a manipulation of the matte painting, but yeah, ROTJ would (and I suspect will) benefit from that kinda thing.

Whatever is decided and done, I’m very excited. ROTJ certainly needs the most “work” done to help elevate it movie wise. ESB is still my favorite, though ROTJ is more nostalgic for me. I’m just too excited for whatever Ady does since ESB:R is amazing.

Yep, one of the laziest things they ever did. And then they did the same sort of thing in Rogue One! More than once! :p Even if it was tongue-in-cheekily done as an homage to the laziness of ROTJ, I still think it’s stupid.

I remember collecting the trading cards when the movie came out. There was this one specific card entitled ‘Beedo and a Jawa’ - where Beedo was clearly the Rodian.

Re: Fett idea of him contacting Vader.

I do not see how such a thing could flow in terms of pacing and editing. Luke arrives at Jabba’s palace, comes into the throne room, confronts Jabba - and ends up in the Rancor Pit. Do you then cut to Fett contacting Vader? When he is brought out after killing the Rancor, Jabba pronounces the death sentence at the Pit of Carkoon and everyone is leaving to board the sail barge. Does Fett tell him then? How does that figure into Vader wanting him alive while Jabba sentences him to death? Is Fett gonna talk Jabba out of killing him or kidnap Skywalker for Vader? I do not see how you overcome that pacing and jarring plot issue.

It is not necessary. Fett looks to be contracted by Jabba, probably a more lucrative deal than the uncertainty of dealing with Vader and deals that get altered.

The ONLY thing I would want fixed is Fett’s demise - and it could be done as simply as re-editing the sequence after Luke cuts the gauntlet cord. After Fett gets up right after the shot of the other skiff shooting at them, have Luke’s saber being shown cutting into the backpack and sending Fett flying. Of course Ady will kill the silly shot of Fett flailing about while screaming as he flies into the sail barge. But hey - since the Beak is gone from the Sarlaac - why not make the tendrils a lot more deadly = maybe spiked ends like a venus flytrap that secure themselves to flesh? and have them wrap up Fett pretty good after he falls into the sand and drag him into the pit? That might be a more viable and realistic re-edit with some minor new shots needed from a Fett costumer and someone dressed in black like Luke who can whirl around to strike his backpack.

Less is always more sometimes.

I find your lack of faith…disturbing

I’m not saying I’m sold on the idea yet, but you can fit Fett’s call between Jabba’s sentence and the arrival at the Pit of Carkoon. Reedit the bit where Fett uses his rope to capture Luke to make it seem like he’s trying to capture him alive, then Vader’s arrival (to an empty Palace) can come after the departure from Tatooine.

It might screw with the pacing, but I think it’s worth an attempt to see how it works. If new footage can be shot and lines can be recorded that don’t sound like bad impressionists, anyway.

A separate and probably unrealistic idea I once had included filming Fett crashing in the sand instead of into the sail barge. We would see him regaining consciousness just before the explosion of the sail barge, and then see him take off in Slave I after Luke and the Falcon part ways. He then shows up in the Battle of Endor, intending to take out the Falcon, but Lando outpilots him while his gunners ultimately take out Slave I. Again, I doubt it would work, but it was an interesting idea to me.

The Greedo-dialog-problem could be solved in more of a George-Lucas-manner: Instead of cutting the dialog, Adywan could add a digital Greedo. Of course, for this to make sense, Greedo would have to survive ANH. Adywan could change the scene in ANH:RHD so Greedo evades Solo’s shot, too! Actually they could shoot at each other multiple times and always evading the other’s shot until their blasters are empty. Then Greedo could go home and live until ROTJ. (And it’s the exact same dialog, because in Jabba’s palace he tells someone the story of how he once met Han Solo and survived.)
