I’m super glad that Ady is gonna remove “Jedi Rocks” and (hopefully) restore “Lapti Nek.” While I don’t hate “Jedi Rocks,” I feel it was disrespectful to remove “Lapti Nek” in the first place since it was composed by Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams. Imagine how pissed off Joseph must have been to have his only contribution removed from the movie.

Lapti Nek is pretty awful too.

The soundtrack version is pretty good 😃 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfyLDh_Ea3w

Each to their own but I find the original theatrical version to be more tolerable and less disco.

In my view ROTJ is almost as bad as the prequels.
In needs a full rebuild not a very beautiful remounting like the other two revisited installments.

Are you planning on replacing Artoo’s beeps? He sounds nothing in ROTJ like he does in any of the other films and it annoys the shit out of me every time I watch the movie.

THANK YOU!!! I brought this up in another thread once and was basically told I was insane and R2 sounded fine and that nothing was different from the other movies.

Remove the Sarlaac SE beak

Not sure if this was already posted on the revisited website, but it’s news to me. Very happy to hear it.

I know it’s not exactly a challenging change compared to what Adywan does, considering that we have HD versions of the scene now, but a lot of people seem to think that the beak is one of the acceptable parts of the SE (as Adywan seems to think about Dewbacks, for example), so it’s nice confirmation.

I know you hate this beak but it’s nothing as offensive as Jedi Rocks, Han’s dodging head or even “No.Noooooooo !”, so yes it was an acceptable change. I won’t mind it getting removed, but I would love the tentacles being animated a better way (the SE tentacles look awful on the other hand…).

I’m sure there will be suggestions aplenty in this thread, so let me just say that your (relatively) few substantial, well considered changes are worth more than many hundreds of small cosmetic alterations. I’m glad that this edit seems focused on those big changes. Don’t sweat the small stuff.

Couldn’t agree more, Cut and Paste Bot.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

A massive shame that the prequels won’t be done because to me, doing Episode 1, 2 and 3 represents a major challenge. Lets face it, the OT is absolute class and if truth be told, only minor changes are needed - if any. Whilst you are massively talented and it’s very cool seeing all your amendments, the Prequels are crying out for this attention.
Use your talents on the films which really need it.

Ady has made a decision, respect that. He knows what he wants to do. Let him get focused on ROTJ/ANH !

I completely agree (aside from the part where you said it was acceptable). Just because some things are much worse doesn’t excuse anything. 😃 We can expect more ridiculous or widely hated changes to be removed. For the beak, I see a relatively large amount of praise (even here) for CGI work that I think is hideous. So it’s a bit of a relief.

New tentacles certainly would be nice for something like Revisited.

I was a big fan of the work done on ANH:R and ESB:R (except for reverting Bobbas voice, and I will fight to the death over that 😄) and am looking forward to the ANH:R:R a lot (though I’d rather the SDs and DS plans are left as they are and any hypothetical RO:R fan edit changes them to match ANH:R).

To me RotJ is the film that needs an edit the most (well excluding TPM and AotC), more so than either TFA or RotS even, but I think the things it needs the most are probably out of Adywans remit of revisited edits (for reference it’s the movement of Yodas death and Lukes lightsabre construction on Degoba and his telepathic convo with Vader as well as a restored subplot of the Moff who’s name I can’t spell, and the removal of Bobba from the film).

However I’d like to throw out a few ideas, mostly already suggested…

Colour correction and lightsabre/blaster fixing (goes without saying really)
New matts throughout
Removal of both musical numbers from Jabbas Palace (or make the origional backing music)
Keep the Sarlaacs beak and enhance it more
Change the Tydirium to the Zeta-class (the exact class from RO)
Change the Emperors ship to a Delta-class to distinguish it from Needa and Vaders ships
Maybe change the AT-AT on Endor (that’s not present in combat) into the RO cargo version
More views of the DSII
The large sized interdictor from Rebels in the background (or maybe two)
Restore the deleted scene of the Rebel general with the silly shirt in command of one of the Mon Cal ships that gets vapourised
Shield glow over the moon
Correct all Imperial ranks
A wider verity of ships (i.e. more ships larger than the CR-90s) in the space battle for both sides
Something I’ve seen mocked up by AggeIw (https://aggeiw.deviantart.com/art/Give-me-a-Hand-216238791)
Add a window to the DSII bridge
Keep Vaders removed eyebrows and let a Rebels faneditor remove them there.
B-Wings, U-Wings (in the hangers not in combat), TIE Defenders
By the time the edit is progressing Rebels will have aired its final series meaning we’ll know for certain if it is indeed Rex on Endor. If it is either a tannoy announcement for him or some short bits of dialogue lifted from Rebels would be nice
As many ships and pilots as you can cram into the space battle, it’s the final battle of the series it needs to exceed Scarif and Coruscant despite the smaller Rebel fleet
Anything you can do to the ground battle to make it better is appreciated in any way providing it downplays the Ewoks as much as possible and possibly ups the Imperial competence down there. However the space battle and Lukes battle are the main focus not the ground one
Keep the ending celebrations but tweak them so it’s a bit less immediate
Retcon Wedges Scottish accent into ANH:R:R and into the Blue-Ray of ESB:R
The views outside of the Emperors window should show the battle and not a static image of 4 SDs with green flashes on them
Sort out the Rancor so it’s more natural in its movements
Replace Haydon with Matt Lanter

Like I say, most have already been suggested but I thought I’d throw in mine as well.

ANH and TESB Revisited were absolutely incredible, and I am looking forward immensely to ROTJ Revisited. Longtime reader, VERY rare commenter here. If I may throw in a few ideas and thoughts:

  • It might be cool to add Jabba’s unused line “I was killing your kind back when being a Jedi meant something.” Hardly important, of course, but a potentially nice touch.

  • Jedi Rocks is musically much worse than Lapti Nek, and a lot of the moments of the new CGI band members are WAY too cartoonish. However, the awkwardness of the original Sy Snootles puppet during that scene still strikes me as a problem, and it would be a shame to lose every shot of the other new additions. Something like this seems close to ideal for me personally: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7omDRTzbmM … but of course, if fixing Snootles through cantina-izing alone is possible, more power to you!

  • In the official cut, once Luke jumps back onto the skiff plank, he stands there waiting for his lightsaber to fall into his hand long enough for one of the guards to attack him. Maybe cutting/shortening a shot or shots in that sequence could make it quicker? Maybe even have Artoo launch the saber before Luke makes his move?

  • “Luke, you’re going to find that that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.” As iconic as the previous “what I told you was true depending on your point of view” line may be, this explanation that followed it seems more like Obi-Wan is rationalizing rather than delivering wisdom. The focus should be Obi-Wan coming clean unconditionally and the audience learning how painful Anakin’s betrayal was for him too, not detached equivocation.

  • I was glad to read that Adywan is going to be reducing Leia’s dialogue during the “you’re my sister” scene. Both Harrison and Carrie’s performances don’t quite match the level of their Hope and Empire performances, and with Leia in particular her dialogue seem to be written differently too. It’s always been jarring. Hopefully other out-of-character moments can be tweaked throughout the movie.

  • Maybe removing Vader’s “He will come to me?” It seems like an odd duplication when Palpatine already told him “in time he will seek you out” in a previous scene.

  • Luke’s line “I feel the conflict within you. Let go of your hate” sounds less like a passionate plea than it does trying to recite the line as fast as possible for some reason. Maybe introducing a pause between those two sentences would suffice to make it more natural? Or, barring that, would cutting “let go of your hate” be seen as a bridge too far?

  • I always thought it might be cool if when Luke surrenders to Vader, Vader igniting Luke’s lightsaber was moved to after the stormtroopers lead him away. That way, it would come across as Vader reflecting on Luke’s words about whether he’s redeemable, an expression of his internal conflict symbolized by Vader holding a Jedi rather than Sith blade for the first time in decades.

  • Just one instance of Palpatine or Yoda using the word “Sith” would be great, if possible. Even before the prequels, it was a strange omission.

  • Last I read, Adywan intends to keep Coruscant at the end (albeit with the celebration changed to a riot), which presumably means Bespin and Tatooine are staying too…but is Naboo on the chopping block? It would be a shame to lose one harmless bit of prequel connectivity (“wesa free” aside; of course get rid of that), given many fans will be marathoning Revisited alongside their preferred prequel edits. In fact, I’d personally like to see a couple more planets, particularly Kashyyyk. (For those who ignore the prequels, brief flashes of previously-unseen worlds can just be viewed as a tour of a vast galaxy that’s much larger than a lawless backwater like Tatooine and obscure gas mine Cloud City.)

  • Finally, bear with me on this last one: I know Adywan intends to restore Sebastian Shaw as Anakin’s Force ghost. I understand why; regardless of one’s like or dislike of the prequels, it was staggeringly sloppy and lazy of Lucas to simply reuse existing footage of Hayden’s head that hadn’t even been aged up to look like a man who’d be in his late forties. Having said that…Shaw still presents the audience with the opposite problem: Obi-Wan standing next to his former student as played by someone a decade older than Alec Guinness. Is there any sort of visual tweaking that could be applied to make Shaw look somewhat younger, somewhat easier to connect with the character audiences know from either the prequels or the Clone Wars? Facial tweaking, more hair, darker robes, anything?

I’d love this, and it’s something that I think Adywan is talented enough to pull off. Give Anakin his ROTS robes and make him look more like a 40 year old man than a 78 year old man.

I guess one big question we should ask Ady before making a bunch of radical suggestions is:

Do you intend for ROTJ:R to be like ANH:R and ESB:R, in that it’ll be the “Special Edition that should have been,” or do you intend to make more dramatic editing decisions this time around?

I mean, if you’re definitely not doing any major “fan edit-y” restructuring or anything, then suggesting the reinstatement of deleted scenes, moving Dagobah to pre-Tatooine, etc. are pointless suggestions. Not that saying you won’t be doing any of that will stop everyone from suggesting such things, but it’ll reign a good chunk of us in.

Of course, if you are planning more major changes this time around, I’ve gotta throw my hat in the ring for the Jerjerrod’s Conflict scenes to be reinstated.

It would be amazing if David Prowse was under the mask. People pull his leg because of the accent but he wasn’t expected to act on set. He can act and do other accents. It would be a lovely way to do right by a very wronged and lovely man. Even if it’s just a disc extra

One small thing that I would like to recommend. Even though the “Palace Musical Number” scene is being reverted back to the 1983 cut (Lapti Nek forever), I always liked the added scenes of Oola in the rancor pit; I think they worked surprisingly well by expanding on the scene but still leaving the rancor largely a mystery.

Seconded. This was a good addition that blended into the existing movie well.

On the subject of the victory celebration, I’ve often thought that the unused score found in “Leia’s News/Light of the Force” on the SE soundtrack could be utilised here to close out the film on a more moving note. The scene could start with yub-nub as in the theatrical version, but as Luke catches sight of the force ghosts it fades to a background echo, drowned out by the previously unused rendition of the Force Theme. Patching in the final moments of the RotS score as we return to the rebels celebrating would then carry us smoothly to the end credits. Apologies is this specific idea has been discussed elsewhere.

Will certainly be donating some funds anyway. Can’t wait to see this and ANH:R-HD realised. Best of luck Adywan!

What’s the story MU-TH-UR?

Just so we’re clear: Is Lapti Nek coming back? I know Jedi Rocks is being removed (thank God), but I liked Lapti Nek and it would feel weird to replace/remove it. I seem to recall Ady once saying he’d replace that scene with a different song or something else entirely, but I hope Lapti Nek comes back.

Replace shaw and Hayden with prowse.
Problem solved

Also someone else suggested using the “unseen” documentary prowse as unmasked Vader scene. If that ever becomes a possibility it’s a no brainer.

Why do we keep talking about the Prowse documentary being a possibility? David Prowse is 82 years old. How would that be better then Shaw in any way?
