Why does he say “ok we’re going, we’re going” in reaction to something that simply is not there?

I had always assumed R2 was anxious because the base was being overrun by the empire & they appear to be among the last to be leaving.
Everyone else around them do look pretty calm though as they’re packing their bags, perhaps it’s a different exit from the base that’s behind them 😃

Did adywan explain why he removed the Tibanna gas from empire?

The Special Edition thing? Probably he didn’t like it because it distracted from the actual city.

Also were there scenes or dialog removed that weren’t mention on swrevisited wordpress?

I don’t think so.

Oh ok thanks just thought he made a continuity error because it’s a Tibanna gas city after all.

How would that be a continuity error?

Because where is the gas? the gas is show in all star wars media on bespin

Just because we don’t SEE the mining doesn’t mean it wasn’t happening. They didn’t add the facility to the SE to address an error, they added it because they wanted to fill empty space in a painting with something new and shiny.

Are the clouds the gas? Is the gas volatile? How could you fly a ship through them? These are questions that can be answered simply by saying the gas is further down in the atmosphere than the city. Putting a facility that close to the city begs all of those questions.

(I know who started this, but, still…)
I’ve always thought the situation was that the mining was being done down on the planet and that’s why they live up in the clouds.
I never understood what those SE floating gas tanks were supposed to be used for anyways.
The Revisited version is beautiful and amazing!

Yeah you can look at it that way and I will also accept it’s very feasible but R2-D2 is worried I got the quote wrong “Don’t worry… We’re going we’re going” and it does work but you know it just leaves you wondering when you know some facts and ROTJ does not really leave you wondering at all. it’s all pretty self explanatory no mystery.

ESB is for the most part pretty well un-open to interpretation and totally explained but when you delve a bit deeper you just wonder on a few things and I think this is one of them and probably the insert don’t help. Just saying it feels like it should be in reaction to “Something” and although all that has passed is not all good it does often feel like stuff is not quite right or something missing. “Who knows” is the real answer and that would be the people that were making it including Lucus. But for the most part this is not the case but if it involves a big effects shot it very much is the case I think.

I made a few screenshot comparisons from the first act. I can make more if anyone is interested…

I really appreciate these! I hope you can do a few more before Saturday. I’m gonna use a handful of em to show a small audience what they’re getting into.

Same here! Been showing some of these to people at work lately who weren’t fully aware of this project, and they are excited. I’ve been very selective, though, in which comparisons to show; for them I want to preserve all of that goodness during the battle of Hoth, for example. 😉

This was never a mystery to me, not even as a child. It’s always been pretty clear that he is responding to R2’s anxious warblings. It’s like when you’re nagging your wife that she’s going to make you late for a dinner party and she responds with some annoyance as she puts on her last earring,“Don’t worry, dear, we’re going, we’re going.” I don’t need to ask Mucus (sic) for clarification.

In fact they are only called “speeder” in the movie, not “snowspeeder”.

And in every other medium since, including the licensed toys brought out by Kenner whilst the film was still playing in cinemas around the world, and in Donald F. Glut’s official novelisation of the film published by Ballantine in 1980 and which is also advertised in the end credits of the film itself, the official Lucasfilm name for those particular ships has been ‘snowspeeders’. Therefore it is not incorrect to call them ‘snowspeeders’. I don’t see what’s so difficult for you to understand about that. I didn’t see you grumbling about everyone calling the ‘wampa’ the ‘wampa’, even though the creature is not named in the film itself and is only referred to as ‘Snow Creature’ in the film’s credits.

Why this sudden (and totally uncalled for) aggressivity ? Also, “grumbling” ?!? You should read more carefully so you wouldn’t misinterpret what I write that much. Anyway, keep cool guy.

100% agreed and I feel the same way, but when you know something was filmed afterwards it leaves you wondering and there is nothing immediate to worry about. I just wonder if their was more to worry about, I hope you get that it’s not like this film ran out of money or anything like that… Sorry but it did run out of money…

I only have one suggestion when you do ROTJ

Fake news.

I’s not fake news.

I give you the truth when Luke is going from the base that was an insert filmed well after principle photography in a car park. That is why you don’t see the snow. Who knows what the thinking is behind them putting the camera pan past the x-wing in a car park rather than in Noraway and in Elstree car park.

I don’t mind it and I am used to it but ROTJ went as planned pretty much and I don’t find that as interesting as this film that is the god’s honest truth.

Seriously Frink I am not looking for anything for “me” but this film is well interesrting

Why does he say “ok we’re going, we’re going” in reaction to something that simply is not there?

What are you even talking about?

I didn’t read your post past the part I quoted (nor any of this subsequent post once I realized you’re talking about stuff I don’t care about). Go back and read what I quoted again. And then explain how you can possibly keep your word on it.

The didn’t take the full scale X-wing with them to Finse. All that was taken was a partial nose cone of the X-wing. It’s not something that was just filmed after to alter or fill something. It was just logistically unfeasible to shoot the full scene on location. So they filmed Luke and the pilots at Finse and then the shots of Luke getting into the full size X-wing later.

Now i’m going back to my supposed 2 weeks off the net…

Question about the new shot with the rebel transports taking off.

I noticed that the ION Canon is animated in the background and I know this shot changed a bit from what you first showed us ages ago. It’s got my wondering why it is animated?

It got me thinking things like is the laser bolt missing and then I thought, nah perhaps too early to fire.

I’m not really saying it’s a mistake or anything but I am really curious about this it seems like you had something planned and changed your plans or something!

The cannon is moving into position to provide cover fire for the last transports. It may have to shut down to recharge or maybe it puts the actual cannon away to camouflage itself from attack.

I noticed this too and thought it odd. We never see Ion Control, but by this point in the film the control room that had previously given the “fire” order was evacuated and the power generator had been destroyed. If the ion cannon was still operating under those conditions it must have had its own independent power source and been firing blind.

I’m not saying that it couldn’t happen, it just never occurred to me that it might.

They told me they’d fixed it!

Great job, Adywan! I don’t have ESB perfectly memorized like most here, so I was watching it in a way that wouldn’t necessarily know what has been changed. There were a few things that stood out as being different than before such as the Wampa, the asteroid field, the extra walkers on Hoth, Han in carbonite, the Emperor, the spider creature, some of the Bespin improvements, and probably a few other things I am not thinking of right now. Otherwise, I never would have guessed it wasn’t just supposed to be that way, while at the same time, it felt fresh and exciting. All of it flowed wonderfully and is a much much better special edition than the special edition. It would be awesome if they would come out with a new blu-ray set that included the originals, the special editions in their various forms, and revisited. Revisited is really the best of the them all which is saying a lot coming from me since I like the originals a lot more than the special editions. I would love to see a version with pop-ups that point out most of the changes. Maybe that could be an extra feature of the blu-ray. To make it easy, subtitles could work. This was a fun project that I enjoyed being a small part of and watching it progress.

Just watched this last night. All I can say is wow!! A sincere thank you to Adywan and everyone that helped you as it is a great version and looks terrific. I especially liked the Battle of Hoth. Thank you for all the work you poured into this, enjoy your time away. ROTJ will be anxiously waiting for you when you return.

I’ve finally had a chance to watch the whole thing right through, and love all the changes that I’ve noticed so far (even the animated Ion Cannon I mentioned above looked good if a little confusing). The whole movie just seems to flow so much better now, and the effects are such that it could have been released this decade.

So many subtle changes - the underside of Cloud City speeding by overhead when Lando closes the Falcon hatch, the bottom part of the door raising in front of Artoo, putting a blaster in Han’s hand inside the “asteroid” (take that, Steven Spielberg).

The un-cropped cockpit shots look great. I don’t know how you managed that - did you splice in material from a restored negative?

I have seen people complaining about the blue tint being removed from Hoth (as if it were there originally!), but I really like that you slowly add it back as night falls when Luke and Han are out in it.

One of the biggest visual changes that stuck out for me was the adding of coloured lights to ships, particularly the large yellow lights on the Star Destroyers around the docking bays. When viewed from beneath the lights really make the ships, otherwise mostly just gray triangles from this angle, a lot more interesting.

Is anyone keeping track of any boo-boos found so far so that Ady doesn’t have to search the whole thread?

I haven’t see it yet, but I saw some posts elsewhere that was saying the volume was going high to low in scene between Ozzel and Piett and some scenes between Leia and Han on the Millennium Falcon.

Any one else notice this, or is it b.s.?

The only thing that really bothers me at all is that Wedge’s speeder has a shadow when it first starts circling the AT-ATs legs, then in the wide shot it lacks a shadow entirely.

It is literally the only thing I have found so far (out of a meager four viewings). Other than that, it looks and sounds great on my setup.

Forgive me if I sound crazy about this, I swear I’m not lol. I remember a couple years ago watching breath smoke test for the the first few minutes of dialogue on Hoth. I thought it was a cool new effect and added a sense of coldness to Hoth. It was on Youtube. I assume it got taken down due to copyright. I was expecting when first watching ESB:R then nothing. So I was just wondering if anyone know’s why this didn’t make the cut, or maybe it was for another fan edit ? Other then that it was amazing through and through. 9 years of work defiantly paid off and it showed.

All my life as I looked away to the future, to the horizon. Never in my mind did I know where I was, what I was doing.

I remember that too. You’re not crazy! I too wonder why this wasn’t used, but also have no problem with it not being added. It is only because I learned that when you are in Antartica, you do NOT have a cold breath due to how dry it actually is down there, despite being surrounded by ice and snow. I just take that into consideration when thinking about which climate on Earth is most like what Hoth must be like, and then the lack of breath doesn’t bother me.

Overthinking it? Yeah, maybe I am, but it keeps me from being disappointed in the lack of the breath effect.

There were other effects that didn’t make it to the final cut; the blue and red lightsaber glows on Luke’s face were also left out.
