Ranking the Alien films — Page 3

  1. Alien

That’s the only one I care about.
Aliens was an '80s action movie, and it’s another sequel that ruins the first film.
AVP was just plain bad.
Fortunately, I haven’t seen any other ones, so I can’t rate them.

Army of Darkness: The Medieval Deadit | The Terminator - Color Regrade | The Wrong Trousers - Audio Preservation
SONIC RACES THROUGH THE GREEN FIELDS.
THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.
THE WAYS OF HIS HEART ARE MUCH LIKE THE SUN. SONIC RUNS AND RESTS; THE SUN RISES AND SETS.
DON’T GIVE UP ON THE SUN. DON’T MAKE THE SUN LAUGH AT YOU.

i own the alien quadrilogy blu-ray box but have only watched the first two (and even then i saw Alien looooooong before i ever finally got around to watching Aliens), am I missing much?

I guess my rankings would be

Alien: *****
Aliens: *** and a half

You really aren’t missing much. Alien 3 tends to be pretty hit or miss amongst the fans, but mostly miss. Since you have the box set though it’d be worth checking out the Assembly Cut of Alien 3 though.

I got every Alien game on steam recently… Isolation was definitely the best. Alien games should really be survival horror. Colonial Marines wasn’t as bad as everyone said, but was kind of repetitive, with pretty bad graphics. Alien vs Predator Classic 2000 I haven’t played yet. Alien vs Predator 2010 was pretty good, especially Predator mode.

ALIEN games should be survival horror, similar to the 1979 film. ALIENS games should be shooting stuff, especially the versus Predator games. Course I wish they’d adapt some of the comics into games and give different genres for a lot of them. Infestation was a quite good side-scroller for DS.
Course I’d love to play a squad based ALIENS game which would be similar to Ghost Recon or Rainbow Six.

Alien Quadrilogy is the DVD set. Alien Anthology is the Blu-ray set. (6-Discs with the last two jam packed with bonus features.)

Really hoping those ALIEN Appendix fan discs could be redone as Blu-rays with less discs needed. Same exact content, just ported to BD25 with multiple options in the menus. Aren’t the majority of them on DVD5 and barely any on DVD9? I’ll need to search for that thread.

You really like you “Ranking __” threads eh? Lol here’s my list:

  1. Alien: 8/10

What an intense and scary film, one of my favourite horror movies to date. It contains some of the best special effects ever to grace film history, (nearly) everything still holds up perfectly.

  1. Aliens: 7.5/10

A fun action movie, borrows heavily from the first film but it’s still highly enjoyable.

  1. Prometheus: 7/10

A modern copy of the original film. It’s done well and everything but in the end it’s another Star Trek: Into Darkness for me. Check out Agent9’s fanedit, it turns it into a much better film!

  1. Alien Resurrection: 6/10

Weird, cliché’d and unneeded. I still enjoy it for the most part but a lot of it is hard to get past.

  1. Alien 3: 5/10

Eh, what a mess. I feel bad for everyone involved in the production of this movie, if you watch the bonus features you can tell they were disappointed in the final product. What a shame.

I’m just going to pretend that neither of the AvP movies even exist, they suck. It’s impossible for me to even stomach them.

The theatrical cut was to an extant. I still kind of liked it though.

I haven’t seen it for a very long time. I couldn’t tell you, but I remember it being nonsensical.

I really can’t see how anyone could rank Prometheus above anything other than the second Alien Vs Predator film.

It’s a remake of the first AVP film with less tangible characters.

There is nothing good in either AvP film. Prometheus has plenty of good moments.

Alien (theatrical) ****
Aliens (theatrical) ***
Alien3 (theatrical) ***

I don’t like any of the DC’s as much as the originals. Especially the one for Alien3 that everyone seems to think improves the film. Nothing that’s added is needed (or wanted) and many scenes are ruined through new edits or replacement footage. The alien coming from an ox instead of the dog isn’t as good a scene and it ruins early set-ups and then it makes no sense why the new alien looks and acts more like a dog.

EDIT- I’m already echoing myself… It was only one page ago!

I haven’t seen the new film yet but I’ll bump this so others can update their lists or post new ones.

I’ve yet to see Prometheus

EDIT: Not sure what’s up with the indentation on Resurrection and AvP

Agreed. Aliens started me off with a passion on VHS for extended cuts. 🤔

Once again I feel duty bound to throw my hat into the ring here.

  1. Alien (5balls) perfect film.
  2. Assembly Cut of Alien 3 (3balls) too much swearing and some of the effects are dated but very atmospheric. If only they had just left Vincent Ward alone to make the film they had paid him to develop and direct.
  3. Aliens (2andahalfballs) one of the best action films of that decade and quotable but tatty and lazy.
  4. AVP (2balls) much better than it should be given the premise but still very silly and unnecessary.
  5. Alien Resurrection (1andahalfballs) some good ideas but the tone is way off. The only good thing to come out of the project was half a season of Firefly and Serenity.
  6. Prometheus (a ball) the same plot as AVP only making less sense but with even more stupid characters. Looks nice though.
  7. AVP Requiem. (infinitenegativeballs) 80s style Friday 13th rip-off with the worst lighting in any film. One scene actively subverts the best scene in the first film by making pregnant women the victims instead of John Hurt’s unwelcome pregnancy. Offensively awful.

Alien Covenant is the new 7 AVP:R is very similar with its 80s slasher cheese.

You’ve never seen 3 or 4?

No I have not and I take pride in that. Even though I’ll probably never watch it how do you feel the Assembly Cut? Just curious.
