however quite afraid of the lame “marvel” humor of the tv spots so far.

To be fair, you could make an ad for Star Wars only using footage from 1977 and make it seem like a silly kids adventure, a lighthearted Marvel superhero movie, a dramatic space drama or even a sci-fi comedy. When these comedic bits are stretched out over a 2 hr. run time instead of jammed together in a 60 second ad they’ll (hopefully!) seem more natural.

You’re totally right about that. Within the context of the movie the humor can work. But the main reference I have when it comes to Disney is how they handle the Avengers movies with a teenage approach for humor and characterization, and TFA was already filled with that.

“Introducing Jyn Erso” Featurette

Not a lot of new stuff here, but I did find this one BTS shot both interesting and weird.

In addition to the fact that those weird red-hooded monks that we saw a photo of earlier will very likely be a bit more than just background characters, there’s also some camels. Just regular real-life camels, nothing fancy added to them that I can see. I guess they might replace them with some CG creatures, and the SW-universe has had regular birds, lizards, snakes, etc. so I guess this isn’t that strange. Any thoughts?

For some reason I just don’t like the idea of camels in SW.

Yes, it does seem a bit out of place doesn’t it.
Birds and lizards I get, but camels seem a bit too obvious. Hopefully they’ve covered them with some CG creature in the actual film, or maybe there’s some details that we can’t see in the screen-shot that makes them look more alien.

As long as it’s not these guys. They fart too much. 😉

I’d love it if they didn’t draw over them. To me, the CGI animals in the franchise are usually so over the top that they become a distraction. Not every animal has to be a statement. It’s ok to just have an animal. The way a lot of people feel like an actual camel would distract from the moment, I feel the same way about some goof animal with six legs and each of its eyes on a stalk.

The CGI animals in the past never looked like they were part of the in-universe reality. The shadows were wrong, their weight, their mass, and their movements were off. They looked like what they were; cartoons. And what’s with that Jawa trying to stretch a double into a triple? More poorly-rendered cartoon work.

Well, CG has improved quite a lot since 1997, and I was hoping for a more subtle addition than those weird creatures that Lucas added to the SE and PT. I’d would prefer a more practical solution, but I still can’t help but feel that an actual camel would be more distracting than some CG creature.

The Rontos never made sense on a desert planet. Such a large creature probably eats and drinks more than they’re worth as a pack animal. And I can’t see them doing heavy lifting like Asian elephants, because they have droids and tech for such things.

True. But at least it’s a reptile, which makes a lot more sense than having a huge furry mammal in the desert;

(EDIT: I’m surprised to see that there’s no canon explanation for this. Not even in Legends. Wookieepedia simply states that they’re “one of the most adaptable herbivorous creatures in the galaxy.”)

I saw a thumbnail to a Rogue One trailer and saw the Ghost ship from Rebels and even though the ship could just have a new crew aboard I wish I hadn’t seen it.

It’s very unlikely that it’ll be anything more than a very brief cameo, so I don’t really see the problem.

It’s basically the same as the appearance of the Outrider in the ANH SE

RE: the ronto, I’ve always figured they weren’t indigenous to Tatooine, but rather that they were imported somewhere along the line. I suspect there was some legends stuff somewhere along the line that contradicts that idea, but as far as I know it’s a valid theory again.

I think that pretty much everything we saw/heard of on Tatooine except Tuskens, Jawas, Krayt Dragons and Womp Rats are supposed to be imported.

Not sure if anyone’s seen this yet, but the IMDB page credits some guy I’ve never heard of as Admiral Raddus, and then Stephen Stanton as Admiral Raddus (voice). Now, Stanton voices Tarkin on TCW and Rebels. Could this be a Khan/John Harrison situation?

The only problem I have is that if it turns out the Ghost Crew is alive and well during Rouge One seeing that photo would undermine the surprise. If it does turn out to be a cameo like the Millennium Falcon being in ROTS then it won’t be an issue at all.

Banthas could have been brought in as cattle and escaped.

Rontos fall into the category of putting silly CGI creatures into a shot that were never intended to have them in the first place.

Sure. I’m just saying that I’m surprised they can live on Tatooine at all.
Also I wasn’t just referring the Ronto, there were Dewbacks in ANH as well (all versions).

If convergent evolution conspired to create humans, ducks, and monitor lizards in the SW Galaxy, why not camels?

I like 'em and hope they aren’t replaced with CG critters.

I know it’s from the PT, but don’t forget the lion statues in Naboo Palace.
