OPEN SUGGESTION for EP III and VII Edit to reduce pg-13 to PG
Time

One of the bigger ones that make ROTS inappropriate is the death of children. I don’t know if any edits cut Anakin drawing a lightsaber on kids as well as a few hologram shots and Bail Organa watching a kid get shot to death. IMO TFA is completely fine is not more appropriate than ANH, I’ve seen it three times and the only thing I can think if is Finn saying “Hell” twice in the movie.

Then how did TFA get a pg-13 rating? Han’s Death? Did the Motion Picture guidelines change over the years?

OPEN SUGGESTION for EP III and VII Edit to reduce pg-13 to PG
Time

I am looking for Ideas for suggestions to cut down these 2 films to make it more KID friendly my 5 year old son has tons of star wars stuff, but My freak-en wife will not allow him to view those 2 movies because of the rating and his age. For reasons unknown to me other than marketing Disney is pushing the envelope of star wars related content yet but from outside of reading books to him, he has not seen these movies.

With that said if there are any editors out there in the same position I am open to cutting up these films without damaging the story. Or even yet are there any known already made edits out there that address this?

Yah. It’ll take a couple days to render and then upload to Vimeo. I really want to get this on fanedit.org and establish it as a serious go to edit of return of the Jedi. I’m interested in how you’ll like how much of the Ewoks fighting I cut out. They almost completely are absent from the battle. It moves the third act faster with more focus on space battle and the throne room and when we are on Endor it’s pretty much Rebels defending the bunker. The cuts are pretty dang seamless and it flows well so hopefully nobody finds it too jarring.

Darthrush if you have not already you might want to check out my library reference for some effect shots, All lasers in my edit redone as well as sabers. All editors on this site are free to use some of my work in their projects/ Details here…

Real easy to do with Mocha tracker. I would need your original composites files though.

Well thanks! I can send you the original files no problem but honestly I’m not very happy with the saber marks.

Which ones? I saw one slash, then what looks like a composite freeze frame of 2 others, that look a little too hot. What is your projected vision for this shot?

Couple of questions regarding this:

  1. Are you still planning on making this?
  2. If so, are you also going to redo the lasers? Because they certainly look different than the PT/Your version of the OT lasers.
  3. Are you going to keep Kylo Ren’s lightsaber the same? I hope so, as I actually think it adds a lot and symbolizes the instability of his character.
  1. Yes

  2. Undecided on the lasers as the tech from a story standpoint has advanced 30 years. Blasters are different except for Han’s. (I think the lasers look ok, does not warrant a significant change.

  3. I am NOT touching Ren’s saber shots, Just blighting up the cores on FIN/RAY’s saber on the wide shots. I think JJ intentionally tried to make it look as it did from ESB on some shots. I have an issue with this art direction because Lucas’s saber Vision has evolved in terms what a light saber should look like since 1981.

4- Potentially controversial so I will have 2 versions of the film with this change and without… I plan on recreating the classic look of the Falcon engines as how the engine glow was larger of the back end of the falcon. (Will try to give it a (NON CG look). Some might disagree with this so I will have 2 versions of the film.

Additional Plans:- AUDIO-

1- Going to mix in more of the original Light saber sound on the first activation of “Luke’s saber”
2- Planning on restoring the original Falcon laser turret blaster sounds. The originals were never used and I not quite sure why as it is the exact same laser.

Potentially more minor changes but I wont know for sure until I buy the BD release where I can look at things at a frame by frame level…

[That_OT_Ruler said:]But I have already started a fan edit of the movie.

I’m glad the link was removed, if I may be so blunt, because working from a bootleg can’t possibly be any good at anything…

I’m using the bootleg as a template, to map out exactly where I want my edits. Then when I get the full HD film with the layers of sound tracks, I’ll finalize and make the full edit. Of course I’m not using the bootleg for a normal edit. xDxD

You downloaded a bootleg, which is piracy. Stop trying to justify that shit.

I have already seen the movie 4 times in the theater I think if he did that, he paid for the boot leg 4x. Boot legs suck anyways quality is horrible. Much better to see the movie in the theaters for the first time. That is my rule… I am not going to mock him if he downloaded one just to make evaluations what he wants to change when he does buy the BD. As long as he already paid his money in the theater. Give the guy a break, all he was trying to tell us all what he planned on changing for his edit…

I still have my ticket stubs :} They are being framed.

^Yeah, I’ve thought the same thing. None of the plans he’s announced contradict anything from TFA, but, we don’t know everything he has planned.

Actually, a BIG change he was planning on making was having Lando and the Falcon not making it out of the Death Star before it explodes. I believe Adywan said he wanted to give more weight to the scene in the Rebel hanger on Home One where Han believes he’ll never see the Falcon again after he loans it to Lando for the battle.

I’ve never had a problem with any of Adywan’s decisions he’s made in his revisions to this point, except this one. I don’t like it at all. I hope very much he has reconsidered.

Pretty sure that was revealed to just be a joke, and everyone just took it as gospel.

At this point I don’t see how he could clearly do this because the falcon lives in the new movies

Lets hope that the Deleted Scenes will be finished and in HD

Is releasing SD special features still a thing? I was more concerned about the aspect ratio being botched.

If they try to squeeze the deleted scenes all on one disk chances are high that it will be a in 480i because of space issues on the disk. If it has its own separate disk, we could expect 1080p only thing that could spoil that is if they had timecode burnt in the scene.

Nah, I really don’t think anything about TFA made me rethink anything I’d done for my prequel edits at all. If anything, it would reinforce the goal of making the PT conform to the OT somewhat. However, Max Von Sydow made a vague allusion to balance of the force, so I wonder if that doesn’t get brought up again.
And once I saw Snoke onscreen, I thought, “Wow, that really could be Plagueis after all.” I still highly doubt it, but who knows.
I wonder if JJ wanted us to think the planet that got destroyed was Coruscant, or maybe just made it look like Coruscant so that we would take his meaning that he’s ‘destroying’ the prequels.

Coruscant is the republics home world and it was destroyed. As with the whole system. It is interesting to point out it was also the empire’s home planet so I am conflicted as why the first order would destroy this planet because are they not some of them from there?

Also about Pelagius I thought darth sidious killed him? Why would anyone think his is Snoke?

Sorry for my spelling. I’m on my iPhone.

It felt like a re-boot even though it was not. I agree with this assessment but there were so many more questions now then answers from a story perspective. They could have added 40 mins in runtime to further explain everything thing like "What the hell really happened since ROTJ. How did they find Luke’s old saber? " I guess this how Disney make more money. Fin is the new Han, and Rey is the new Luke but there characters traits are now switched. From a story perspective it lacked originality. I might be onboard for helping u with this but I would wait to see how this plays out in the future movies.

I plan to make minor tweaks in the vfx and sound wise especially when it comes to Luke’s light saber… Mabey some space shots restore the way the falcons engine originally looked like flying in space from the original trilogy.

But over all this movie clearly is a lot better than the pre-Quils but, I’m still trying to get over the way they killed off Han Solo, he was one of my favorite boy hood characters. I am exhausted and heart broken. I think Ren is only a half baked Sith Lord. No Sith eyes? They mentioned he needed more training. I think the Fans wanted to see him wounded by chewie.

Luke did look good in the end. Still wishing he had some dialogue at the end. But out of the 6 official movies I would rank this at #3 beating ROTJ at #4.

STAR WARS IV Beta 1.0 XXTELECINE 7XX Now Available.
Time

Folks,
I will Have the BD-22 up as a torrent sometime tonight. I put a lot of time into this release, so much to the point I a burnt out on Star Wars lol… I am not planning any future changes at this time, until maybe next year. I am going to take a few months off. For now please enjoy my edit of EP IV. I have borrowed some of revisited HUD shots and inserted them into my edit. I take no credit for this. ADYWAN is as of course responsible for those shots and it I felt it was to good to be ignored to be left out. They were taken from his SD Revisited release and will act as a substitute until maybe later someday he can re-create his work or I come up with something in HD…
Here is a list of some changes that I made from a VFX perspective.
–All Lasers were either outright (replaced) or re-scoped if replacement was not possible. Also there were several perspective changes of these lasers.
–Luke’s Light saber now has been replaced completely and show proper size of saber and correct glow of blue. (Falcon training sequence). The Jump Cuts were fixed from a more tradition cut away form of editing. I also used a planar tracking system to solve or at least minimize the wobbly shots of Luke’s hand were the Light Saber no longer wiggles.
The “shot if this is your father’s lightsaber” is in Alpha mode, and I have a few guys helping me out to re-create clean plates to correctly remove the original saber. All other saber sequences here re-scoped.
–“I think I just blasted it”—this control panel now has a Burn mark on it as it now matches the other scenes.
–The Death Star firing Laser now matches my work that I did in EP VI ROTJ.
–Vader’s Chest plate now has Lights that work :}.
–Vader’s Eyes have been masked out and darkened (no longer transparent and no longer red.)
–R2’s Projection hologram has been corrected to match shots were there originally were no blue glow.
–Muzzle flashes added to blasters were none existed, I even replaced some of the original ones.
–Added some cockpit explosions and laser hits to some of the doomed x-wings.
–There were other misc impact shots and flashes added when troopers were hit by laser blasts.
–There are several other changes I think the Die Hard Fans will notice but the list is too long to post. (and I am tired)

–I did also make some slight audio changes where I replaced the FOX intro music and used a re-scored “star wars” them music recorded more recently and it was blended in perfectly to the opening segment. I also added some misc Storm Trooper comments as fill in audio. Other tweaks were Luke’s Lightsaber sounds and Obi-Wan switch off sound from his saber to match the pre-quills that were used for his model. The audio by no means is not final, and it is conceptual. It is still a little rough, It is however in a DD 5.1 MIX. Another change is HAN Shoots first has been restored. I did not cut the Jabba Scene because I do not have access to a reference point of the original of were the correct cut should be made.

And well… That’s it for now…I am officially taking a break from all of this. After I see EP VII in theaters I am going to make an evaluation if I will further tweak things. One thing that caught my eye was some of the interior shots of the Falcon were the corridor lights in IV where replaced to green, and in ep V they were a light blue. After I see the new movie I might revisit ep V to correct this as well as replacing some of the Luke Vader Light sabers (making them look thinner and cleaner). But for now I am retired. I gave it my best shot to get this out in time if before the force awakens release for all of you die-hard fans wanted to do a STAR WARS HD 1080P movie marathon before going to see EP VII. I acknowledge that there is still work to be done with this, but at least for now it is playable.

But for now enjoy!

Have you tired to make a master clean plate and assemble picture information that is available from the other 443 frames? If an object is completely cover up by an actor you could use the clone brush and give it a middle of the road object… You would have to roto out all the actors to achieve this master plate though. Then fill in there missing information on the frame with the cloned back ground information… The trick will be to find a frame that has the video information your looking for to clone, and then assemble it. You would have to roto out all of the actors on every frame though to re-supplement them on top of the clean frame plate.

Another trick I used for the other saber shots, was the old “CC wire removal tool” This actually warped the original saber and inverted it to make it a lot thinner. I was then able to roto the new saber with great results. This allowed me to recreate a new light saber effect without it looking too thick. The only trade off is that sometimes if will give a warping effect on the background, which can be minimized thru the settings at a key frame level. But it is a well worth trade off.

Below is a sample

It’s a lot of work I know, that’s why I don’t have the time to do it… :{

I thought about it but it but I am running out of time. I fixed r2 holo gram sequences however. But that will have to wait till next year. My Main focus is the light saber fixes and laser replacements. It should be done in a few weeks. In fact I hope to have this wrapped up just before the new movie hits the theaters that’s my goal At least.

That looks great xxtelecine 7xx. Even though you can see the original saber in a few places, it blends together really well and unless you’re one of us who’s examined these scenes practically frame by frame you probably wouldn’t notice.

That’s about as far as I could take it hundsdorfex will try to clean the rest up.

Strange even looking at it on another monitor and my phone it looks too purple, I am going to add some more green to it to get it more saber blue… My monitor’s color must be off…
