STAR WARS: EP VI -RETURN OF THE JEDI "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - ** PRODUCTION HAS NOW RESTARTED **
Time

Update via Facebook a couple of days ago:

"
Sorry for the lack of any updates. April/ May is always a busy time for me. Start of some good weather and loads of work to do outside and on the house. Family birthdays and everything that goes with that. So i never usually can manage to do much work on projects.

Saying that, i haven’t fully pushed Revisited to one side. I’ve still been working on ANH grading. That is now about 95% complete. Lots of planning for the pilot shoot also. Work has commenced on the sculpting for the pilots helmets and the chest piece. The red overalls are all completed, so the costumes are coming along nicely. Then it’s onto building the cockpit, which will be happening next month.

And i see Facebook have changed their settings for groups yet again. Seems now that many will only see highlights of any updates here in their newsfeeds and not every post. So, if you want to keep up with everything thats about to be happening, then make sure you have your settings set up to see all posts, not highlights , for this page.

So June is when everything will be getting back to normal…

Watch this space…

L3 was obnoxious? Huh, that’s a weird interpretation.

A caricature of modern SJW’s to whom the term obnoxious does easily apply.

How so? Please explain this, and the difference between that and your ‘droid believed in a worthy cause (freedom from slavery)’ statement.

Sorry if I’ve upset anyone.

To be clear, I’m not talking about equal rights campaigners. I mean people who actively seek out things to be offended about, then complain about them loudly and persistently.

You don’t have those?

Are you being sarcastic?

That droid believed in a worthy cause (freedom from slavery) but was riding a fine line on becoming 1) A distraction from the movie’s storyline and 2) A caricature of modern SJW’s to whom the term obnoxious does easily apply.

Solo: A Star Wars Story — Official Review and Opinions Thread — SPOILERS
Time

As a Star Wars origin film, I enjoyed it.

A lot of it felt contrived - there’s a lot of callbacks that will be grating to some but didn’t bother me. The Imperial Officer giving Han a surname reminded me of the “Darth… Vader!” scene from ROTS.

There are plenty of quiet scenes with long dialogue, that I thought gave the story a chance to breathe without the high-stakes frantic action of the other films.

1337 wasn’t as annoying as I feared she could have been. As soon as Lando boasted about her navigational database I figured her brain would have to end up in the Falcon.

And Han shot first! I didn’t see that coming but should have.

I do feel slightly vindicated as I had earlier predicted the film would end with a reference to Docking Bay 94 on Tatooine. That didn’t happen of course, but Han is at least heading in that direction.

Funnily enough the part that grated me most was meeting Chewie - either Han has superhuman strength, or Chewie was going very easy on him for some reason. Also not sure about the other Wookiee we meet - the mask looked like it would fit better on a Planet of the Apes set.

Overall, I put the film slightly below Rogue One and slightly above TLJ.

She was, wasn’t she? I haven’t seen it in a long time, but I recall several scenes that implied that.

Which scenes then? I don’t remember anything other than her befriending a kid. If it wasn’t for AOTC no one would even question it.

Did she really even befriend him? All I remember is the scene where she makes fun of him for being a slave and he says “I’m a person and my name is Anakin!”

Yes she did. One example, he’s cold on the starship when flying to Coruscant and she gives him a blanket. He misses his mom and she comforts him.

She did it in an awkward and romantic way. I found the age difference inappropriate and petitioned for the film to be banned.

I sense a mix of truth and exaggeration in this post.

Regardless, given how long it’s apparently been since you’ve seen the film, you should watch that scene again and see if you actually feel that way or your memory of it is distorted. If the former, I’d argue you’re putting your own interpretation onto a scene that doesn’t contain what you say it does.

Funny, I now recall when I saw TPM in the theatre I was relatively spoiler-free and had no idea that Padme was supposed to be Luke and Leia’s mother, and therefore expected no connection between her and Anakin beyond childish friendship. It wasn’t until later watching a doco with a member of the crew, possibly Robin Gurland, commenting that she had worked to find an actress who could pass as Leia’s mother.

Somehow I’d managed to miss the Weird Al music video and the “I won’t always be” deleted scene that spell out Anakin’s feelings for Padme.

Even so, I still can’t see anything beyond innocent friendship in the final cut of the film.

One thing i noticed during my third viewing: Lukes former lightsaber ignites faster with a different sound since he threw it away. Check various scences: Reys training at the rock, Rey VS Luke, Kylo ignites the saber to kill Snoke and the last Praetorian Guard.

Maybe the one Porg accidently changed the lightsabers configuration with his feet right before Rey picks it up?

I noticed in TFA that it sounds very different to how it did in ANH. I especially noticed this when Finn first ignited it.

If you think about it, Obi-Wan and Yoda also gave themselves over to the Force in a similar fashion, especially since Obi-Wan disappeared an the moment before Vader’s saber hit him.

Did he? I always thought Vader killed him.

yeah he did. vader’s blade never even touches him.

“If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.”

Emphasis mine.

I’m pretty sure he’s referring to Star Wars, not Jedi.

Correct, though that could be applied to much of the rest of the saga, including ROTJ.

And I wouldn’t compare a Marvel blockbuster movie of today to Star Wars.

Neither would I, but I would compare a simplistic reduction of a Marvel blockbuster of today to a simplistic reduction of Star Wars 😃

the detachable front section being described as an escape craft.

So I guess the escape pod the Death Star crew assumed they’d escaped in has been gone much longer than they thought…

Heh, yeah I thought that too. Although it does seem a bit big, and that guy on the Death Star said that several had been jettisoned.

(TLJ spoiler below)

I had thought the capsule Rey was in when shot out of the Falcon was a proper escape pod. Maybe freighters have both individual and group pods.

DS2 wasn’t finished, but fully operational. The trap was the Rebels didn’t know DS2’s laser canon was functional.

How many unfinished but fully operational military vessels do you see out on the ocean?

It wasn’t really out in the ocean, it was still in dry-dock, as it were. It never moved, except perhaps to rotate a bit to point the superlaser. It couldn’t, without losing its shield.

Vader promises the Emperor that it will be completed on schedule, just as Jerjerrod promises he’ll double their efforts after complaining he doesn’t have enough men to do it in the given time. The surprise is that it’s operational - they got the cannon online before finishing the armour and probably the hyperdrive. Hence without an externally generated shield a few ships could just fly into the incomplete superstructure and knock out anything that looks vulnerable.

ROTJ:
When DS2 exploded, lots of construction workers, engineers, etc, died.
When Luke is dragging Vader towards a shuttle in the Death Star’s docking bay, there’s people scrambling in the background, yet no one stops to question why the Emperor’s menacing 2IC is being undressed by a blonde kid - everyone knew the station was doomed. I’m pretty sure the workers would have been the first to drop their tools and GTFO at the first sign of trouble.

That Darth is a title, not a name. I mean, why the hell not? First of all, it’s a solid portmanteau (“Dark Lord of the Sith”). Second of all, maybe this is just me, but I think Darth is kind of a funny name, but works fine as a title. Also, despite what people say, there is nothing in the OT that would suggest this shouldn’t be the case.

Disagree. At least in terms of how Obi-wan refers to him which suggests he was called Darth before he turned to evil and that was his first name.

Nope.

Are we still allowed to cite The Secret History of Star Wars on this forum?

What Lucas had in mind when doesn’t affect my opinion on this.

Ah, fair enough. We all have our own head-canon.

That is AWESOME. As a long time hot rodder and motorcycle rider, that is an uncanny take on the Haynes manuals. They are the Bible for just about any make & model you may be fixing or restoring. I’ve used more than a few of them. The actual manuals have that same level of detail. Very clever.

I think it’s too early in the timeline for han to lose that particular cargo

Do we have a confirmed time span for this film? All I’ve seen is that it starts ten years before ANH. I had earlier suggested this film might end with Han being cleared to land at Docking Bay 94, but of course that wouldn’t work if it didn’t lead straight into ANH like Rogue One did, and leaves no room for sequels.
