Rogue Zero - What was changed, reshot, etc in Rogue One?
Time

I forget; did the “97.6% chance of failure,” line ever make the final cut? I can’t remember hearing it, now that I think about it.

I remember when the rumours first leaked, Lucasfilm told EW that the reshoots would focus on cockpit scenes, scenes of character interaction. I wonder if we can definitively say which of those were added.

I didn’t notice his voice sounding too off, myself.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they deliberately modulated it differently. As I recall, vader’s modulation between Star Wars and the Special Editions (and maybe between the rest of the Original Trilogy, I forget the details) was changed a little.

Perhaps that might be a factor as to why he sounds off as well; Perhaps they used a different reference for how to modulate his voice from what we here usually use as our reference?

So, can anybody tell me what was the point of Forest Whitaker’s character? I mean if you would cut him out of the movie it wouldn’t affect the story at all. The same goes for the subplot with the tentacle monster - why was it there? It looked like they wanted to make us think that the pilot lost his mind and will do something insane in the last act, but they went nowhere with it, he just looked weird in one scene but was completely OK in the next shot.

And also the movie suffered from the same “too much shit going on at the same time” syndrome as 99% of modern Hollywood movies, but still, it was really enjoyable. I don’t know why, but I suddenly want to watch Harmy’s version of Star Wars (aka Episode 4) 😃

He was mostly there to give a reason as to why it had to be Jyn Erso, really. It wouldn’t matter who sent the message, but she was important because she wouldn’t be killed the second she walked in the door. Arguably, you could just give Galen a tie to an extremist group and leave out Saw Gerrara, but it gave the group a face to more clearly interact with.

I don’t think the tentacle monster was there to be a subplot unto itself, so much as give a very sci-fi method of showing how unhinged his character is.

I got back from it. I rather enjoyed it, but I think I need a little while longer to process it.

The biggest thing I enjoyed (from a worldbuilding perspective) is that when they discuss the weakness of the death star, it implied the Thermal Exhaust Port, but it didn’t outright say it. He said the Death Star was rigged to explode based on the way the reactor was put together.

I don’t know, but I always feel like people overhype the actual port as far as the flaw goes, when really it was just a convenient access point.

So I looked at my local theatre’s showings for Rogue One. No, they’re not showing Rogue One until January. Instead they’re going to show trollz this weekend. So now I have to get to the next nearest theatre instead (a good 45 minute drive for someone without a vehicle).

Oh joy.

Is it a single screen theater? Because that seems like a bad business decision otherwise.

Single screen, yeah. Though sometimes it seems like they’re able to at least advertise having two different films at one time (at different showings, of course)

Specifically, they’re not showing Rogue One because they’re showing Trolls, Allied, and Bad Santa 2 all for the next week.

Hmmmm. I prefer a previous take of two lines from the trailers.

“The world is coming undone.”

The one from the first Offical trailer (after the teaser), is better IMO than the one in the IMAX tv spot.

“The power we are dealing with here is immeasurable”.

I prefer the original take over the “awesome” version.

Still really excited but am hoping that they don’t use the takes shown in the IMAX teaser.

Listening to it, it sounds like the Awesome line was a splice of two lines, and he sounds as uncomfortable delivering such cheese as it sounds to us. I do like the “Oh, it’s beautiful,” line, though it too sounds awkwardly delivered.

And I can tell with the K-2SO line that they are splicing lines together, as the “trust goes both ways” clip uses a very different line, and I doubt they’d change it so close to release.

Also, does the ad just sound… hollow? Like it feels like the sound was recorded from a speaker after the fact, or something.

Never been a big fan of the show but I respect it for this.

Eh, I distrust anything Autism Speaks says. They border on a hate group with their own campaigns.

I agree completely.

Fair. I guess my reaction was probably a bit kneejerkish, seeing the URL.

It would be neat if we heard Hera on the radio during the battle. I don’t really want to see any of the Rebels characters played by actors, though.

Neither do I. I can’t really picture them trying that without a level of uncanny valley developing as a result. It’d also be a bit too much of a wink. That being the Ghost would be a nice addition, at least. A little Easter egg for the Rebels fans.
