Rogue One * Spoilers * Thread
Time

https://youtu.be/u7AuVg8OL3A

The Star Wars show takes a look at various Easter eggs from Rogue One, and an FAQ staring about 19 minutes in. Tidbits include:

 • jokes about the various TFA theories
 • Obscure ROTJ ship being added to Scariff (and will apparently appear in Rebels)
 • extremely obscure character from ANH board meeting made it into R1
 • Why was the Tantive IV at Scariff?
 • What is the correct pronunciation of Tantive?
 • Why didn’t Galen Erso tell them about the Exhaust Port?

Rogue Zero - What was changed, reshot, etc in Rogue One?

Unless you’re discussing a version of the film in which Vader didn’t have a castle and saying reasons why, within the film “Rogue One”, they made that change, you are off topic.

Well, the link I posted a few days ago mentions a version of Rogue One where the name card for Mustafar was in the film. Does that count?

VIII - Legacy of the Republic

If Luke’s been missing to find the first Jedi Temple (and the Jedi historically protected the Republic) then the episode might be framed around the early days of both.

“Legacy of The Jedi” sounds better imo.

I found myself arguing against that, and I can’t remember why. Part of it might be that I’m hoping to see more of how the Old Republic, the Jedi, and even how the First Order and New Republic are intertwined. If the story does go in that direction, I’d think using the Republic as the framing point of these relations would be better than the Jedi. Of course, I fully expect that it’s just going to be Jedi/Force centric, rather than using the Republic as the foundation.

I actually read a few of the Legacy comics and they’re not that bad but they’re not particularly good either. The only reason I could recommend someone reading them is if you’re interested in Darth Krayt. Supposedly he’s stronger than Bane or Sidious.

Is he a dragon?

He’s (SPOILERS?) actually a PT-era Jedi who named himself that for reasons pertaining to his character.

Wasn’t the point of Legacy to try and put themselves as far flung from the PT/OT era as possible while still allowing for ghost Luke, or do I have that mixed up with a different comic line? A PT era character seems out of line with that.

It was a '70’s variety show based on Star Wars.

I bet you there’s many worse variety shows from the 70’s that people don’t even remember.

You kids know nothing of 70’s hell. 😉

I know not of it, but I figured that Star Wars was not unique in terms of bad Variety Show Specials.

It seems I wouldn’t be entirely wrong.

EDIT: I tried to watch it, but I got more bored than disgusted by it. It’s bad, but to the point I watched it (the cooking show parody) it wasn’t like “OH WOW that’s bad, that’s hilarious.”

Why Doesn't the Resistance have Tie Fighters in The Fore Awakens?

And if we still have tanks in 2017 then it’s more than reasonable that X-Wings and TIE Fighters are in TFA.

Of course. We still have Mark I tanks from WW1 as primary tanks.

No, but our primary tank, the M1 Abrams, entered service in 1980.

Yes and Soviet Union collapsed in 80s ending the arms race and any serious competition. In Star Wars case we have the exact opposite scenario; the Empire’s monopoly ended after ROTJ, making the two sides more equal, increasing the competition and arms race between Empire leftover and New Republic. By the time of TFA, dozens of models should have gone through the evolution for each role (fighter, bomber, etc.). What we have instead is the exact same things we have seen in ROTJ. Actually even one step back, since we don’t even see the newer ships from ROTJ.

But that’s not the political scene by the time of TFA (I know the film glossed it over, however). The Republic didn’t even know the First Order existed until recently (as in Bloodline whenever the First Order is brought up, it’s as a big secret that nobody’s supposed to know about) while the Novelization of TFA goes over how the Republic doesn’t consider the FO a threat, hence the Resistance.

Now, one can argue that this is stuff that should’ve been in the film in the first place (and I wouldn’t disagree, TFA really didn’t do a good job of setting the landscape), but it’ll likely be a major factor in how the sequels will play out, while also contradicting your opinion of it being a Cold War esque situation for the last 30 years.

I would be interested to know just how many more subplots/alternate plots/deleted scenes were filmed from Rogue One. For fan editors, I wonder if there is enough footage to split the film into two parts. The climax of film one being the events that happen on Eadu. The second film being all about the big moments for the Rebellion and Erso’s group attacking Scariff.

I’m not suggesting that this theatrically should have been two films or anything like that. From a fan edit POV, I wonder how different the first hour of the film was with all this alternate footage we are seeing. The stuff with Saw, the shots of Vader in front of the Death Star screen, the weirdos on Jedha. Even restoring the original plot point that the communications dish and the archives were not located in the same building and having Erso make her way across the island and battling the garrison.

I like the film the way it was cut for the theatrical release, although I would still remove the flashback scene and replace it with a crawl but I feel like there is so much that was removed and then replaced that there is almost a whole other film in there.

Maybe not full subplots, but a lot of alternate versions of the same scene:

Star Wars moving forward without Ms. Fisher

There is also the possibility of splitting her work and sharing it across both of the next two movies so she has a presence in the whole trilogy. as we found with Rogue One films are often restructured after shoots and there is a tendency to film more than finally needed. I would just film more stuff with Mark and the new peeps and allow the Leia footage to bridge both films.

The main reason I haven’t looked at things like that is on the question of reshoots. I heard a rumour (Though I don’t know whether to believe it’s true or false, but I want to say false) that Rian Johnson didn’t actually schedule a lot of reshooting time for VIII, limiting the amount of new material that could be made from a reshoot.

If so there may only be so much that can be done to rectify in VIII her absence in IX’s shooting.

So there’s 4 possibilities: CGI, recast, have her off screen in IX, or recycle unused takes.

The first three have obvious downsides, while the 4th has the limitation of being entirely dependent on what exists of Carrie footage at this age, and still requires a fine hand in order to make sure someone doesn’t notice edits.

This might be coloured by not having an equal basis of comparison, but for me, what I’ve found was:

I didn’t even notice there were themes in TFA until I picked up the soundtrack, but as I listened to it, the melodies became more apparent and I could recognize them.

For Rogue One I found I could at least recognize there was actually a soundtrack behind everything when I watched it, but I would be completely unable to actually recognize them.

If I got the R1 Soundtrack I might notice the individual themes a little better.

As some idiot thought it would be fun to start a fake death rumor on twitter for Beyonce this evening, take anything from there with a large grain of salt until you hear it from a reliable source.

Well in this case it sounds like her family is corroborating with the story, as most of the reports as to what’s going on is coming from them, not twitter.

On a different forum yesterday someone was saying Carrie had died, so misinformation can go viral.

Ah, right. I’ve heard of some people doing that on Reddit. Right now we’re in a lull as her family’s not reporting on the specifics of her current condition, so announcements of her death are premature.
